    I just purchased the 2024 Palisade. It has intelligent speed assist. Tried it and stopped using it after the first time. I was traveling using cruise in a 55 mph zone. Came upon a school zone with a sign reading 30 mph. However, school was not in session, and there was no light on the sign. My car immediately slowed to 30, and I nearly got rear ended. Should this only be a warning for school instead of an active feature?

    Would love to see video on the forward collision warning/avoidance. We just purchased a Niro EV, and the dealer (Chicago area) didn't have an answer to my question. It has alerted us if we are behind a car that is turning into a driveway or parking lot entrance...it seems to sense the rear of the car that is still 'hanging' out in the street. But, it doesn't seem to alert or brake if the car is directly in front of us, and we approach it quickly. We thought the license plate may be covering the front sensor, but that is not the case. Does it only work if we are still on the accelerator? Only if we're above a certain speed? Only if we're approaching the car in front at a certain acceleration? Would love to know more about this feature....

    • @BrantfordKia
      @BrantfordKia  Před 2 lety +5

      This is something we've toyed with for a long time, and you're right, it's time that I do a video on it. When the system first came out, we ran a brand new vehicle into camping mattresses, cardboard boxes, cardboard boxes covered in tin foil, and many other things before we found out more about how the system works. You're correct it only gives you full avoidance at certain speeds, and at certain variances in speed, and the real kicker is that if the car senses (through many different inputs) that the driver is in control, it is entirely possible for the system to not activate at all. If it feels like the driver is in control, there are occasions where the system will not intervene. Lastly, I always recommend that you test this system like you test your airbags... DON'T!!! The braking can happen SO late, and SO aggressively that even when it is active, it may only minimize a collision instead of prevent one altogether. In your specific example, it may sense that you're not seeing or paying attention to the vehicle turning out of your lane, but it may assume that you DO see and are aware of the vehicle directly in front of you. So you're right, it's time that I do a video on this, but I need some time to put this together so that I'm not leading people to trust a system in situations where the driver should take control.

    • @BrantfordKia
      @BrantfordKia  Před 2 lety

      Yes! The system can use your navigation information, and it also uses the camera located just behind the interior rear view mirror of the car (so... technically, it's in front of the mirror, not behind) when that camera sees a speed limit sign, you'll see the speed limit sign flash up in your dash, even when you're not using the speed limit assist. It's pretty cool!

      I'm not sure what your argument is? Did the salesperson promise you this feature? Not every car has this, and only the latest platforms offer it. The Kona is on a platform that was released before this year, so it was never set up with this technology. I'm sorry that you don't have it, but it isn't available on your particular vehicle.

    Why isn’t this automatic? If I want it to assist I want it to keep matching the speed?

    • @BrantfordKia
      @BrantfordKia  Před 2 lety

      I think you're overestimating how complicated this is. I just used the system for a large trip over the last weekend. I like it the way it is. When I set my cruise control, I want it to be set to the speed that I CHOOSE, not the speed that the car chooses. But knowing that I can wait a second or two, and then automatically set to the speed limit (or 10 km/h over in my case) then I can do that easily.

      @@BrantfordKia is it complicated? My previous Jaguar XF 2016 could do it with its very limited tech compared to my current Sorento 2022 HEV. I would be able to have manual or automatic Limit modes. Seems to me like it's Kia's way of avoiding potential liability. For me automatic would be the way to go, in Switzerland limits can change quickly with speed control right behind it. Having that automation was really a life saver on a rare occasions.

    This is basically wrong. You have to LONG PRESS the cruise control button to activate speed assist in the uk spec 2023 Kia and then it works like the old kia speed assist if you set it up in the car settings. You do Not have to have cruise control on.

      Where I live, most people drive at 10 km/h over the speed limit on the highways (or more) Setting things at the speed limit would mean that you're holding up traffic in many cases. The flexibility that allows the driver to make that choice is a popular feature in this region.

      @@lucyxx5895 I think our system would be better served by setting speed limits correctly and enforcing them at the limit. It's an unwritten rule here that 10 over on the highway isn't going to get you a ticket. That leads to people pushing the boundaries a little bit. But that's just me.

    Really don’t understand why you introduce a variable to raise the speed above the speed limit and further confuse the viewer. The idea is to simplify the explanation to allow the viewer to understand. Keep it simple and straightforward and add any personal preferences at the end…..save the added explanation every time you refer to the speed.

    What a wonderful place America is. You can have a speed limit but the the car allows you to set a speed above the speed limit. I guess in America if you are caught speeding you can just blame the car!
