  • Our new Filipino friends took us to the beautiful Malabsay Falls just outside Naga City.
We met Lionell outside his restaurant 'BurgBox' one day in Naga City and he offered to take us to see some of the beautiful waterfalls here in Bicol.
We drove to Mt Isarog national park which is a stunning place unbelievably green and right under a volcano - seriously the nature here is ridiculous.
We spent the day at Malabsay falls eating delicious homecooked Filipino carinderia food and swimming in the refreshing cold water while avoiding the evil leeches.
We've met some super nice Filipino locals on our trip so far looking forward to seeing more of the Bicol region these next few weeks.
Check out Lionells burger restaurant in Naga City - BurgBox. The guys a legend.

dont think they are dodgy, they are probably commisioned by the owner to look after the property as it is a private property. meaning they own the land and when they open it to the public they need to maintain it. you see you have a proper walkway which costed them to develop for the visitors convenience. i think thats how it works as well anywhere else unless it is public property and the government is the one maintaining the place and it will be for free. hope you understand coz you will encounter more of this in the philippines. as you can see, from your travel in the philippines so far everyone has been so friendly to you and very helpful and generous so dont think badly of them. i understand the skepticsm but filipinos in general are very hospitable and accomodating so it is a bit sad for filipino viewers and might give them disappointment if you will keep showing negative interpratation of things. beside you have filipino companions so as long as it is ok for them meaning it is ok coz to tell you, they will be the first one to defend you if they think you are being taken advantage of thats how they treat guests. thank you, cheers and safe travels and wish you have more great experiences to come in the philippines. lessen the doubts about the people, filipinos are very honest in general. even the street kids you encounter, dont ignore them or feel pissed coz you are not accustomed to it. we are a poor country and sadly we have a lot of them. a little help wont hurt but if not its ok too just dont show them you dont like it. visit legazpi albay too, home of the mayon volcano the most perfect cone shaped volcano in the world.

Hey I'm always honest. Our Filipino friends told us it's a scam, should pay entry price and nothing more! No other country I've travelled in 2 years does things like this! I have to point it out so the country can improve it's tourist treatment.
Us white tourists were the only ones who had to pay this sadly.

i apologize for the misconception. thought you were complaining bout the entry fee thats why your filo friend was explaining the situation there. 😂 hope it was an isolated case coz generally they wont treat you like that. cheers and hope more great things you will encounter there to compensate for that one bad experience. im a fan by the way, been following your trips. enjoy and have fun. im currently living in australia but im from there in bicol specifically letazpi albay! try atv to mayon. it’s fun. you can haggle with price. usually the standard fee is 1000 to 1500 but with charisma you might get it for 700. hehe. dont be shy to haggle it is part of the culture there. have fun!

That's great that the locals took you to the park. As always, and i'm sure you guys are aware, but just keep your wits about you because there's always scammers and people with ill intent. That being said, what a nice day to spend at a waterfall and that food is choice. 👍 Remember, 'ginataan/ginataang' anything just means it has coconut milk/cream. So anything can be ginataan. Also, totally very Pinoy of you hiking in 'tsinelas/chinelas' 👍 That's the true Pinoy way. Hahaha. As for the entrance fee.....yeah, most places do charge some kind of an entrance fee and some places do require a guide but this one doesn't seem to need one. BUT if I can play the devil's advocate, there are places that are private property and they have these caretakers to oversee. But then there are places that are just ridiculous, especially charging you more just because you're a foreigner. Sorry that you encountered that.
"sana all" the literal translation is hopefully all but the context is more like, 'How I wish" or " if only." As always, totally impressed that you just got stuck in especially with the dinuguan. Yes, it is made with pigs' blood but there's variation. We personally use ginger and lemongrass but it is mostly cooked with vinegar in it. That's why it doesn't have that iron taste, not as prominent. And that water looked totally refreshing and I can relate to the feeling of swimming in ice cold waters....perks of living in Canada. 🥶 But we love the cold water. Anyhow, happy trails to you both and looking forward to more adventures and I really like that you're going into the less touristy spots and there you will find the gems. Cheers.

    • @EllisWR
      @EllisWR  Před rokem +2

Hey cheers for watching and for the information i appreciate it! Yeah the entrance fees and overcharging is the one thing you guys need to work on it doesn't really happen in other countries it can be a bit of a shame.
How amazing is fresh cold water! We will eat anything we find Bicolano food to be extremely delicious, I wish more people would try before saying all filipino food is bad. Hope you enjoy the next videos have a great day my friend

Well, I hope you guys can tour more places because so many regions have so many amazing foods that aren't pretentious. Just down right home cooking. Where I'm from, the Visayas region, namingly Bacolod City in Negros Occidental, we are known as the sugar bowl of the Philippines. We have popularized chicken inasal and the amazing sweet that we produce from that are. Let me know and I can point you to some awesome food. Also, in October, we are also known for our Masskara Festival.
Having said that, since you're still up in Luzon area, Pangasinan province is the culinary capital of the Philippines. Great places there too. So have fun and till the next video. Cheers.

Sana all is slang for "I wish". Filipinos always come up with new slang all the time and sana all is the current one. Another word for carinderia is turo- turo, means point point. You turo turo (point) to the food on display.

There's a lot of falls in Libmanan, Camarines Sur in Bicol but if you wanna try good beaches I recommend the white pebbles beach resort in Bagolatao, Minalabac, Camarines Sur but I advice you to rent a motorcycle if you wanna try it since it's location is a bit far from Naga. You can also explore Ragay and Camarines Norte. We have a lot of beautiful beaches to offer with clean waters. Our locals are very friendly and accommodating too. If ever you want to swim always make sure that there is a person left in your cottage to watch your belongings just incase there's a bad person who took fancy over your things. Remember to always be careful.
I am not informed that the entrance fee of foreign nationals are much higher. I don't think it is fair and it is quite embarrassing to know. I am sorry for that bad experience but I hope that it won't affect your willingness to know more about our province (Bicol) and our country (Philippines).
It's nice to see you being humble to our locals. Thank you for that.
Our dinuguan is quite sweet because with add gata (coconut milk) If you try to eat the dinuguan in Manila you can easily diferentiate their dinuguan to our dinuguan in Bicol because they don't add gata (coconut milk).
You can try to look in deeper places in Bicol, we also have lots of clean rivers to offer. Some areas don't actually put entrance fees.
I am really grateful that there are vloggers who wants to explore small provinces like ours.
If ever you want to explore more provinces I recommend my mother's homeland, the Batangas province (San Juan, Batangas) 🙏 their accent is very good and they still manage to preserve old style houses. You can also feature the Marcos Highway and you might see the big statue of virgin Mary there. They also have amazing foods and tourist spots to offer.
    Thank you very much

Not sure why some falls have entrance fees. Not all have like the one we went to in Pangasinan. Maybe because that one's in a national park. Maybe the fee is for maintenance of the place. But yeah, i guess the government should be the one to spend on it.
I wonder why the Dinuguan you had was sweet. Maybe Bicolanos add coconut milk to it too. Otherwise it's actually a bit sour because of the vinegar. Btw, we also call Dinuguan "Chocolate Meat" coz of the color. :)
