  • Brachypelma annitha (Mexican Giant Red knee)
    1997 (Tesmoingt, Cleton, Verdez)
    Class
    - Arachnida (Arachnids)
    Order
    - Araneae (Spiders)
    Family
    - Theraphosidae (Tarantulas)
    Subfamily
    - Theraphosinae (American tarantulas)
    Genus
    - Brachypelma
    Species
    - B. annitha (Mexican Giant Red knee)
Here is another handling video about my big female Brachypelma annitha. I’ve handled at least 14 tarantula species, including small Poecilotheria fasciata, regalis, metallica, Ceratogyrus marshalli, Acanthoscurria geniculata, Grammostola rosea, pulchra, Monocentropus balfouri, lambertoni, Brachypelma verdezi, klaasi, annitha, A. chalcodes, Avicularia versicolor. Some of them just once and some of them twice or more.
This species looks like B. smithi, but there are several differences, one of them is the carapace’s colour, also colour of knees are different and B. annitha (Mexican Giant Red knee) is bigger than B. smithi (Mexican Red knee). B. smithi has black carapace, B. annitha has orange or red carapace, there’s not so much black colour. Both species are quite docile, as a form of defence they kick hairs but they will not bite you, they will not even display a threat pose. This species is suitable for begginers and if you know what you’re doing it’s able to handle them without any problems. I often work with 30 cm long tweezers, it’s useful especially if I work or rehouse fast species (Poecilotheria, Chilobrachys, Pterinochilus and so on).
Music was composed by me, I have a digital piano Yamaha NP-V80 piaggero. I work with the following software: Audacity, Sony Vegas Pro 13, Magix Music Maker 2014. I've been playing on the piano since July 2012.
Visit my main CZcams channel "Marek Kučera" about animals (especially tarantulas, chameleons and others) or my second channel "Marek Kučera [Inferion7] - Music" about music and piano.

I have arachnophobia and dislike the smaller spiders (such as the huntsman), but specimens such as this one... I can't help but like it. Seems gentle, and more like an 'animal'.

And such striking colours! She's beautiful. There was no aggression from her, I was quite jealous watching that to be honest. I don't feel right making a request of you, but I really would like to see more of this particular one.

Completely unexpected) what I want to know is, do red knees bite? My chili never bit me but he would let me know he didn't want to be held by flicking his hairs at me. I heard that getting bitten by a chilli was like being stung by a hornet.

Hi everyone i need your help!
I have a 7 year old mexican redknee that behaves strange,(i bought it in 2010) it (dont know the gender actually) doesen't eat and haven't eat for atleast 1 month now although i have given medium-sized crickets a couple of times now. the last time today maybe 10 minutes ago. it looks, how should i explain, like it doesent have molted for a while maybe half a year now. the color is not that bright it fades out as the time goes.
since i dont know the gender the spider might be old and tired but considering i dont know the gender i dont know if it is sick or ill.the male could be at its healthiest condition 7 years old and the female around 35 years old from what i have read.
it has moistured moss often aswell as i daily 2 times a day spray with a barber-shop hairspray with water. on the glass terrarium sides and on the moss. i have noticed that sometimes when watering it has been mold inside (i have removed it when i have seen it) sometimes due to overspraying, now i spray lessamount of water to avoid mold on the moss. is it ill due to mold or what is the problem? please help
    //best wishes johnny knoxville
