MY FIRST TIME IN VIETNAM: #1 BUCKET LIST COUNTRY

- My First Time in Vietnam: Join me on my first adventure in Vietnam as I dive into the vibrant world of Vietnamese street food. i like to go random random streets wherever i go so that is exactly what I did when I arrived in Vietnam. I should say after Tet ended because everything was closed during this time as the amazing Vietnamese people celebrated this magnificent holiday.
In this video, I take you along as I sample some of Vietnam's most iconic dishes for the very first time. From the hearty Hủ Tiếu Nam Vang to the refreshing Nước Mía, every bite is a revelation of flavours and textures. I also try the Vietnamese favourite, BIA HƠI HÀ NỘI, and indulge in unique delicacies like Frog legs, Bún ốc, and Bún chả.
But the adventure doesn't stop there. I delve into the world of Vietnamese sandwiches with the famous Bánh Mì, savour the sweet delights of Bánh Su Kem, and wash it all down with a refreshing pint of C Brewmaster Craft Beer.
Join me as I navigate the still somewhat quiet streets, struggle trying to communicate with anybody because I made a huge mistake in studying more of the language before arriving, and most importantly, indulge in the culinary treasures of Vietnam. This is just the beginning of my love affair with Vietnam, and I can't wait to share more of my adventures with you.
I will be based in Danang and Hanoi for 4 weeks at a time with Danang starting on. March 1 and Hanoi in late March. If you're in these cities and want to appear in a video drop a comment on the video and let me know. I will tell you how to get in touch with me directly. Nam Vang is the old Vietnamese name for Phnom Penh, the citadel of Cambodia
Bánh mi Saigon is the best
In ho chi minh city I recomment Banh mi "madam Win" or banh mi "ba huynh" in center of city
Nhớ ăn thật nhiều món ngon đường phố VN nhé anh bạn
@tuananhtranhuu, Thank you. Many other commenters like yourself have told me this

We’re going to Vietnam in May and have been following Max McFarlin (Daily Max) and Chris Lewis (Chrismixlewis) for the past six months or so, and now, watching your offering’s, man,I so can’t wait for May! Looking forward to your next upload!!
@bubbas..... - good choices of channels to do your research on VN. Those are great guys. Their knowledge of VN is really awesome not only in terms of breadth but depth as well.
@bubbasphilippineparadise4781, That's unfortunate it will be in May. My visa expires the beginning of May. Would have been nice to meet you while you are here. Will be heading to Laos and Cambodia when I leave Vietnam so let me know if you planning on going to those countries at all in May or June
We're planning just Vietnam for this year, we did Laos in 2019 and had a wonderful time.
I love visiting Vietnam too. The nicest people and the one of the best food all around.
Absolutely my friend
Love your comment from Vietnam
That Banh Mi is on another level. We don't even have anything close to that in the U.S. CA Bay Area. I miss Vietnam.
She may have the best Bahn Mi I have had so far😋
I wonder its not something complicated. Very easy to make one.
@@PureDetour You've not tried Hoi An's banh mi. People say it's the best in the country. There are about 3 different famous shops in Hoi An that make amazing banh mis from what I'm told. Try 'em all and let us know which is your favorite when leave Vietnam.
If you see a VN dish that has broth and a plate of fresh herbs and vegetables, then it's a good chance that you should add those herbs and vegetables to the bowl, those things really dress up the fragrance and taste of the broth. If the dish has rice paper and no broth but the herbs and vegetables come with it, then you should add the herbs and vegetables to the wrap.
I really miss the sidewalk fruit juice/smoothie. VN smoothies are such great value, so much real tree ripened fruits in a cup.
Great tips my friend! Doing my best to learn as I go here

Awesome, thank you so much for the recommendations❤️

Great video. Loved how you enjoyed the food so much. Vietnam has amazing cuisine, and the hospitality is always top notch. When you’re in Da Nang, try Madame Lan. When you’re in Hanoi, Pho Bat Dan has the best pho I’ve ever eaten. Bun Cha Obama is a bucket list restaurant too. Enjoy!
Will do my friend. Thank you so much for tuning in

Hopefully we can cross paths along the way for sure!!!
You're not wrong. Food is out of this world and I haven't seen a coffee culture like this in a long time lol.
I am currently in Danang and will head up toward Hanoi on the 29th. As you said, hopefully our paths will cross.
There you Go!!! The very First Vietnam Vlog from Pure Detour. Happy camper here!!! Missed you bro! Oeder 1 Pho Bo for me will you??
Will do my best to get that on camera for you. I have avoided any form of Pho since I got here.😁
Da Nang is my #1 city in VN, enjoy!

Lovely to see the delight and joy on your face with the local flavors. Bun Oc is my favorite too. The chewy chewy is actually from Singapore.
Thank you so much.
Singapore eh? I found an article that said they were Vietnamese. Hopefully the next desserts I have in video are actually Vietnamese. Be sure to watch future videos and let me know. 🙏
Bún ốc có nguồn gốc từ Sin ? Bận là người VN hay Sin ?

Đang ở Đà Nẵng và sắp tới Hà Nội nhé bạn.
Glad you like Vietnamese's food
Thank you my friend🙏
Chào bạn 👍 ! Tất cả các món bạn ăn nóng sẽ ngon hơn nhé ❤️
Cảm ơn lời khuyên của bạn tôi
If you’re into dessert in Vietnam, gato trứng muối chà bông (Salted eggs and pork floss sponge cake) is a must. It’s a staple dessert in Vietnam, my go-to whenever I crave for cake. Besides that, you don’t wanna missing out on flan with shaved ice, coffee and condensed milk.
I hope you can enjoy yourself in Vietnam because there’s just so much to offer.
I am putting gato trứng muối chà bông into y spread sheet to try and find it. That sounds awesome, thank you.🙏
The Flan I can do without. I am not a fan of flan at all.
@@PureDetour Not sure why Viets like that pork floss sponge cake as I don't think it's something Westerners will like. It's an odd combination for Westerners. Plenty of other great desserts out there that I think will mesh better with Western palates. Try the pandan sticky rice with coconut ice cream or avocado ice cream (popular in the Central Region). Better yet, hunt down the grilled bananas in sticky rice and doused in coconut sauce. This dessert won a SE Asian dessert contest years ago.
Love
Thank you so much, Tran
Welcome to việt nam
Thank you my friend
You need to try the hot version of Bún Chả in the early morning of Hanoi, of course some Phở as well. Anyway take care and enjoy the trip love
Will do as soon as I get to Hanoi and thank you for the kind words
Holy mother of god is the correct reaction to Bun Cha
😂 Thank you my friend. I was blown away with Bun Cha. Super excited to try it in other areas as I move throughout the country
@@PureDetour You'll have to try it in Hanoi as that's where it originated. Look for the place that Will in Vietnam ate at as his looks delish. Yes, everyone goes to the bun cha Obama because it's famous, but it's not necessarily the best. Make sure you order the fried crab spring rolls to dip it in the broth/sauce.
Hu Tieu Nam Vang is one of my best fav food that I can eat everyday ^^
I can see why, it is absolutely delicious. 😋
Hi guys,
Welcome to VietNam, Thanks for sharing video about VietNam.
If you have a lot of time. I can recommend you to go to some famous places like Ha Giang or Sapa to see the natural scenery of Vietnam. There are many tourists who come here and are very surprised about it. Hopefully my suggestions will help you have more experiences when traveling in Vietnam. Have a nice trip!
Nice video. I like snail soup aswell. Its a flavour that very unique. I am not sure if you eat it with vinegar. I am used to eating it with lime.maybe Vinegar is northern style.
I still can’t say for certain what it was but it reminded me of palm vinegar. Slightly sour yet a little sweet. Whatever at it was it worked with the bun oc
Hope you will go to all provinces of VIETNAM to enjoy the food and cakes
Anywhere in particular you want me to go? I will be based in Danang and Hanoi for 4 weeks each. Unfortunately with only 90 days allowed in country it does not allow me enough time to see the whole country
@@PureDetour If you like the sea, there are DA NANG, NHA TRANG, PHU QUOC, HA LONG, and if you like the plateau, there are DALAT, SAPA, HA GIANG. If you are passionate about cuisine, you should try the specialties of the three regions: HA NOI, HUE, and HCM
Of course there are many other localities with beautiful scenery and specialty foods, but if you don't have enough time, you should go to the above places first.
I have two more months left on my visa so I will definitely be in Hanoi and Hue at some point. If there are specific dishes you would like to see let me know and I will do my best to get them in a video for you.
Welcome to the taste of Vietnamese foods.
Unlike western food, Vietnamese food has no cream or cheese, only natural ingredients with specific spices for each dish or regions. Good taste without overwhelming. The key to eat more and more.
Shhh, I had cheese on a dish yesterday😁
@@PureDetour If you're going to have cheese, then do it at Pizza 4Ps! I hear they having AMAZING Italian food there. It's located in all the major cities, so you should be able to find one in Hanoi when you get there. The restaurant chain was started by a Japanese guy in Vietnam and has since expanded to other parts of SE Asia, I believe.
👍👍
Thank you!☺️
You should eat all the delicious Vietnamese dishes❤❤❤😊😊😊
Going to try my friend😂
@@PureDetour Wishing you a good appetite
Like!
Thank you so much my friend
Nam Vang is a viet translation for Phoum Penh, the capital of Cambodia. Basically it's a noodle, cambodian style. chili oil is not as spicy as chili paste, which is what you have with the hu tieu nam vang.
It's Chinese immigrants in Cambodia who created this dish. Cambodia has no noodle tradition.
Whatever it is, it is delicious😋
❤
Thank you 🙏
I'm suggesting a way to prepare your noodles (Hu Tieu, Pho, Bun, etc.) in Vietnam.
1. Try the original taste of the noodles right after they are served; don't add anything to your bowl yet.
2. Lime, vegetables, chili sauce, and sa tế are optional; don't mix everything together. Here's the order I usually follow:
Lime: Squeeze a bit into your bowl and taste it. (1, 2, 3, 4... lime, it's your choice).
Vegetables: Add them sparingly. Try different ones to discover which you prefer. Again, taste your dish.
Sauce, Sa tế: I generally skip chili sauce and Sa tế, preferring the broth's original flavor. Only add it if you find the soup lacking in flavor or not spicy enough for your liking. Sa tế is spicer and more intense than Chili sauce.
Great suggestion! Will do exactly this the next time I have any soup dish😋
Welcome to Việt Nam dude! I think you should try coconut coffee at "Cộng coffee shop" it will blow your mine 😊 Enjoy!!!!!
I have had Coconut coffee here but not from there. Unfortunately time is dwindling down here in Ho chi Minh quickly so if you have any suggestions for Hanoi or Danang, I am all ears!😁
@@PureDetour Cong Coffee is all over Vietnam and they are famous for their coconut coffee. You should be able to get in in all the big cities as Cong Coffee is a chain. But other independent coffee shops have them, too. Don't forget to try the salted coffee as well as the peanut coffee when you're in the Central Region (you should be able to find salted coffee up in Hanoi along with egg coffee). Try yogurt and pandan coffee, too.
Welcome to vietnam 😊 hope you can visit halong bay
Not sure if it will be in the cards or not. Limited amounts of time and lots I want to film while I am here
@@PureDetour You should do Ninh Binh over Ha Long Bay. It's the Ha Long Bay on land and a lot of people really love that area. Lots to see and do and just gorgeous country.
SaPa is also a place worth experiencing ❤
Hope I have time. Not looking promising right now. If I don't make it, don't worry. I will certainly be back
@@PureDetour The food there isn't great, but the scenery is. :)
@doodahgurlie , I'm sure it is. Just don't think I will have time to make it there
Hello my friend 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Right on Frankie!😁
2:25 If you are still in Da Nang there is an incredible Com Ga local spot called “Quan Com Ga Trang” with a yellow sign outside. Unfortunately it’s not on Google Maps so I can’t share the location. The name of the road is: Mỹ Đa Đông 12.
It’s without exaggeration one of the best chicken legs I have ever eaten in my life!
Great video btw 😊
Thank you my friend. Unfortunately I left Vietnam a few months ago
