    my grandmother is in the garden club in my county and she could tell you just about anything you wanted to know about this plant as she grows TONS of it lol. i dont really care much for it because of its invasive nature and the fact that it only blooms about every two years...according to her. that said i did enjoy the fact that my bloomed this year (not a real pretty bloom but was still cool to see it bloom) and i will enjoy growing it to sell at flea markets.

    Hello Diane! Thanks for this video. My SIL gave me a small MOT's plant at the end of June. It is now 6th generation leaves and babies all over the place. I'm beginning to think it's actually an invasive species, although they are just beautiful. I am almost obsessed with this plant. I have propagated to 12 other containers; given most away, brought rooted babies to friends, appointments, social visits! Oh, BYW, Kalanchoe is pronounced Ka-lanch'-o.

    • @dianemummvideos
      @dianemummvideos  Před 4 měsíci

      Yes I believe it would be invasive in the right areas... I no longer have this plant.. but it was fun to grow .. good luck!

      @@dianemummvideos To address your question "do the plantlets grow back once you remove them?", it seems like mine did begin to grow back but I didn't have the chance for the "second batch" removed from the mother plant. I am in South Louisiana and we had a bitter cold spell for a couple of weeks and yes, it gets bitter here, that absolutely froze my large ones; however, the babies that were embedded in the soil have begun to grow again. I now have about 10 container pots with multiple babies growing. Since Summer is around the corner, I will have more time to harvest and see if it regenerates more plantlets! I also will be able to propagate my Alligator Plant which will be my first ever. Thanks for the info Diane!

    Lovely plants! I've noticed on mine that occasionally the leaves will re-grow plant-lets, though I don't know under what circumstances they will do that. If you take a leaf from them, like you would another type of succulent, that the leaf will start to grow plant-lets again. My kalanchoe is variegated, so unfortunately I can only propagate from seed and plant cuttings.

    if you are growing the alligator kalanchoe you need to stay on top of picking the baby growth off of the mother plant because (at least in my area...N.W. FL) they will TAKE OVER. they can be very invasive and produce many baby starts on the leaves. what you saw in this video was mild to what they can do. these plants can get up pretty high. i had one that was about 3.5 - 4 ft high and every one of the leaves can have anywhere from 20-30 or more beby growths. that being said frost will kill them.

I also have it propped with a chair since it is top heavy and has a couple of curves. Anyway it is and if was straight a good 6' and has been in the same pot for two seasons.Watching it I don't think the baby seem to reproduce in the same area or as much. Though I could be wrong. There are many baby's on it and at the base of the leaves is new growth. Should I cut the leaves off and let the new growth come in? I am wondering if I am over watering it and also what kind of soil and size of pot. Hi! I have a half foot tall Mother of a Thousands and have had it for several months now. In the last month things have not been going well for it. I noticed that 2 of the leaves near the top had brown tips. Then this week I noticed that the two new leaves at the very top didn't really open and that the top inch became soft and weepy. When I watered it this week (currently just watering once a week), I saw some extremely tiny little bugs come out of the soil when I watered. ??? Any idea what those would be and if they have anything to do with the plant not doing so well. There was a spider plant nearby and I checked it and did not see and of these extremely tiny bugs. I live in the Toronto Ontario area just so you have an idea of the climate it's in.
    Any help or advice you can give I would really appreciated.

    • @dianemummvideos
      @dianemummvideos  Před 8 lety

    • @OutdoorsAndBotanical
      @OutdoorsAndBotanical Před 8 lety +1

      I might be able to help you, they could be spider mites how every they hang out under the leaves and you have to see them with a magnifying Glass... not but they are that small. or if they are living in the soil and when you water they jump all over they are probably fungus Nats. they look like fruit Flys. spider mites I think will harm your plant but fungus nantes didn't bother mine they are just a pain and there r so many! hope this helped

    • @IWishUDidntNoMyName
      @IWishUDidntNoMyName Před 8 lety

      The interesting thing about these things is that they are not on the plant at all, just in the soil. I have had them for a few months now and I am constantly watching the plant and there are never any of these tiny tiny bugs on the plant. They are so tiny that they look like a little white dash.
      The plant itself seems to be in a dormant stage (we just finished our winter season so this could be normal). It hasn't grown much, but it doesn't appear to be dying either. It's just .... still there.
      Thoughts?

    • @OutdoorsAndBotanical
      @OutdoorsAndBotanical Před 8 lety

      +IWishUDidntNoMyName ok if they are white they might be white Flys but I don't think they live in soil. so you probably have fungus Nats which live in soil and you often find them inside an open bag of soil that has been outside and in the sun for a while undisturbed. they won't harm your plants, or at least they don't harm mine. they will look like fruit Flys. hope this helps, check out my YT channel kidvsworld and sub please and also share with friends thanks.
