- A review on the clutch setup I have in my 2003 terminator cobra. I have the McLeod RST twin disk clutch. I talk about all the pros and cons on having this clutch in the car. Hope you guys enjoy!

Gonna be installing my RST this week! I'm experiencing the same problems with my cobra right now as you had with the stock clutch.
Your gonna love it dude!
I installed the twin discs in my Tesla, night and day difference!! Best clutch on the market.
I noticed right away the clutch asked for way more RPMs or it would chatter. I thought I had a defective clutche but thanks to you and a few others, I see it's normal! 👍🏼
I have the street level McLeod (rated 300 hp) paired with their lightened steel flywheel, it’ll chatter until 1,700-1,800+ RPM then it gets quiet. Thought I installed the clutch wrong but I took it to my tuner and he said Mcleods are known for their chatter. So yeah perfectly normal lol.
@@bap7929do you know if the chatter does any sort of damage to the clutch or driveline? My mustang is my daily amd I just installed the rst same as this guy but I typically like to drive at lower rpms maybe 1500-2000 when I'm just cruising and I sometimes get the chatter. Just don't know if it causes any extra wear and tear or not.
I would avoid chatter and lugging engine.
@@KyleSVT sounds good man. And also after the break in period on that rst did your takeoffs from dead stops get smoother? I just got mine installed yesterday and it isn't so smooth taking off, maybe I just have to get used to it after driving 70k miles on the stock clutch.
@@KyleSVT and one more thing did you remove your clutch assist spring along with that install or do you still have the stock one in installed?
With aluminum flywheels you will definitely get more noise and chatter. You did well with the lightened steel.
Dude. Super glad to see you liked it. My RST came in today. I'm super excited to get it installed
Nice bro! Your gonna love it!
Just bought this clutch, and the flywheel, can't wait to have them installed on my Mustang. This is like a preview, thanks!
Your gonna love it!
What type of flyewheel?
lightened steel
McLeod should offer a sprung hub version to help eliminate the floater plate chatter like the Tilton ST-246.
1st off ... that blower whine 😊, just did the RXT in my GXP with steel flywheel as well, such a good upgrade from stock!
I've been looking at these and they seem well worth the money. Only experience I have with aftermarket clutch's is spec and centerforce but I'll deff spring for one of these when the time comes
This came across my suggested videos so I'll comment again on it. I recently got a smoking deal on a McLeod RXT open box for $860. Just couldn't pass that up. As much as I love the VMP I have no I do miss that Eaton whine though lol. VMP still whines but you do have to wind it up more to get to that point. The power difference is immense though
Have had my RST for about four years in my Cobra, and I love it. Had a Centerforce in it when I bought it and I hated it, heavy pedal, poor grip. Best decision I ever made was to switch to a RST vs. a Spec 3+. My cousin has a Cobra with the Spec, and everytime he drives my car he wishes he had bought the McLeod.
Is it noisy at all?
Where does the pedal engage? Mine lets out right near top. They didn’t use an adjustable pivot ball. Even with adjustable clutch quad it’s letting out way too high for my taste. Mine doesn’t chatter though
yea mine is close to the top as well. Not that high tho
im putting an RST in my 03 Cobra, do I need an adjustable pivot ball or can i buy an OEM one?
I was having the same problem, shifted perfect just running up through the gears unless I was racing someone then everytime I'd go to shift it it was like hitting a wall so annoying..also getting a 2.9 whipple and the cooling mod if you haven't done that make sure u do the rear cylinders dont get cooled enough and and u end up losing a cylinder my father and I both have one and both lost rear cylinder
One year up date? Still love it? My spec used ti chatter like crazy
Subbed, looking into a new clutch for my Termi. Gettin locked outta gears, will put it on my list for sure!
Thanks brother!
Also recapping my comment from a year ago, My Terminator had a bent clutch fork from when I purchased it. I ended up just wanting to go back to a stock clutch for a stock setup...Because I was tired of snapping clutch cables every month... But the parts market was bad a year ago, and had to spend over 1k for a stock flywheel. Wish I had gone with the Mcleod kit... It would have been a great bargain. Just a reminder how important aftermarket support for enthusiast cars really matters. 😺
dang, I sold my stock flywheel on svtp for $250 not too long ago. Wish i would have known you needed one
Had one installed a few weeks ago, also had issues going into third before, fine now, agree well worth the trade offs, think you can get replacement disks for 300 if they wear out.
What's kind of issue going to third? Mine is doing it too
Hitting a solid wall and not being able to shift into 3rd is what the problem was before
I also have the exact same issue. I was broke and cheaped out going with the spec stage 2 w/ light pedal option, and a fidanza aluminum flywheel; so I’m worried about having way too much chatter. I have heard the spec clutches chatter pretty bad anyway, and to pair it with an aluminum flywheel will not help it.
Also got the ford racing TOB, pilot bearing, McLeod triple hook quadrant, firewall adjuster.. and I’m gonna check anything/everything else and replace if needed
Kyle - what noticeable differences did you see with the Billet Steel Flywheel?
Quicker RPM drops?
Slightly, or Improved Acceleration?
Quicker response on tip in?
Weight savings? (5-10 pounds)
Weight savings for sure. Its hard to tell because the new clutch felt so different than stock. The main reason doing it was I needed a new flywheel for the car because I got the clutch so I figured I would save some weight while I was at it.
My car hits that “wall” you’re talking about too. I’m gonna gonna go for the same clutch and see what happens.
I would replace the cable while your at it to and get the firewall adjuster if you don't have it
im putting an RST in my 03 Cobra, do I need an adjustable pivot ball or can i buy an OEM one?
I believe it was and oem one
I recently picked up my 03 cobra and it has the same clutch. Mine only grabs at the very top. It has 10k on the clutch, I hope it doesnt need replacement
Perhaps you need to adjust it. might have to get a firewall adjuster and clutch quadrant or maybe even a new clutch cable if the guy didnt repalce those things when he got the clutch
One of your complaints was the car not wanting to shift into 3rd under power, yet you short shift into 3rd throughout the video. Would have been nice to see the the actual improvement.
here you go czcams.com/video/flM5hV7DcAI/video.html
@@KyleSVT thank you 😉
yayay
Is that clutch noisy at all at idle or cruising?
Thinking about going with the RXT for the Magnum.
not at all. The rxt might be tho. Only time this one is noisey is when the clutch chatters like in the video.
Hope you see this but I do have the same clutch and it does grind on third when going fast but when going slow it goes in smooth ? I’m trying to figure out if I’m shifting to early that is why it grinds ? 2013 mustang gt
so you have the stock shifter still?
What’s the longevity like on these clutches?
Probably all depends how you treat it
I have a 1977 chevy pickup truck I drive it on the weekend only for 30 minutes. Would like to ask you will it
Work in my truck.
I would check mcleods website for vehicle application
Hey Kyle, are you using the stock clutch cable and stock quadrant, or aftermarket cable with the RST?
using a ford racing cable, ford racing clutch quadrant and steeda firewall adjuster.
Anything wrong with the Ford racing cable? I'm about to buy a new one but OEM part
nope ford racing cable working great still
Did u have any trouble putting in the clutch with the throw out bearing already putting pressure on the pressure plate ?
no issues
@KyleSVT ok cuz I installed mine and I have pressure with throw out bearing and pressure plate do I need to adjust or move anything?
It was so long ago I dont really remember sorry man
i have spec 3+ an i find it to be a heavy clutch as well too, i plan on changing it soon to as well, i brought the car with it on there, i prefer da feel of a lighter clutch, can you put a link to clutch you have ando you know how the spec 3+ compares to yours
No idea what the spec 3+ feels like but I'm sure the rst is lighter. I ordered my clutch though full tilt boogie racing so I don't have a link
KyleSVT ok thanks,
I'm debating on this I have it but considering the super pro street McLeod single disk. I have a 69 Camaro with a 383 stroker what's ur thoughts?
Also this would be mostly street is may once or twice the track about it
I will always go with a twin disk from now on
@@KyleSVT right on I may keep then. Just was wondering on the chatter being a street car moatly
@@slim703 yea the chatter doesnt bother me and once you get used to the clutch your learn how to work it and it doesnt chatter as much. The light petal pressure and holding power is worth it
@@KyleSVT right on cool thank u for the info appreciate it
You have stock rear gear?
yes
What is your rpm burnout
never do them
Did that shirt come with your rifle
no I bought it after
KyleSVT cool and also that mic is really good
thanks :) I try
I wouldn't know about clutches
Did that cranking sound that makes when you don’t give enough gas when away after the 500miles break in?
The clutch chatter?
Yes the rst and rxt will have the twin disk clutch chatter the entire life of the clutch
How much power are you putting down?
445hp and 462tq
KyleSVT I’m debating installing it on mine, I’m 660/545
