Can you do a head-to-head comparison between the Ninja 400 and the ZX4RR on the track? Lap times, etc.
Thanks for the review. Pretty much what I expected and totally get the lukewarm reaction. I’ve been enjoying my ZX4RR for three weeks now. I am an older former BMW S1000RR and current single R rider. I had to make the switch in 2014 due to some nerve issues lingering from an old back injury. I personally think this ZX4RR is not targeted toward younger upward aspiring track riders. It’s just too expensive. Personally, I think it was designed for me. I’ve got the track skills but ready to slow down, need slightly relaxed ergos but still desire the premium bits that generally aren’t included in entry level bikes like the Ninja 400. The bonus of my ZX4RR is that I can ride on the street like I do on track without going to jail!
Hard agree. At 45 / 160 lbs with some prior track experience, this is honestly the perfect street/track motorcycle for me. Extremely fun on the street even with the stock US throttle nerfing, and trivially unlockable a little further into break-in. Honestly not sure I'll swap the exhaust unless I take the plunge into a Novice grid, and maybe not even then. I kinda want to get a second one to make track only. 😬
Hard disagree tbh. You're comparing what exactly? The ability to stay at high rpms on this? Otherwise there is mostly nothing in common as I'm sure you're aware.
The electronics are indeed a differentiating factor and pertain to the premium segment. But physical component-wise I'd struggle to call anything on this bike premium.
💀💀
@@ThaSideWeed Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean your right. Its very premium for a 400cc motorcycle.
Same here, too! Exactly the same reason what I took this. From Daejeon, South Korea/.
I learned a long time ago that with cars, it's not about how fast it is, it's about how much fun it is. The ZX4RR strikes me as a bike that is all about having fun.
💯
Exactly. Back In the early 2000's I went from a ZX7R to a ZXR400 and the smaller bike was so much more fun because I could just scream it everywhere
The problem is it costs the same or more as the 636. At that price it doesn’t make sense. They should offer a regular ZX4R (not RR) and charge way less.
In no world does it cost as much or more as the ZX-6R, you 40 IQ
But the thing is, can't you say the exact same thing about an RC390 that costs half? Or a 636 that costs the same? Or is a bike like the 636 inherently less about "having fun" just because it has a better engine and components?
Don't get me wrong, it's not about the ZX4RR not being fun. It's about what insane price tag it demands just for being fun.
A Miata's fun value is amazing, because it is economically obtainable. It doesn't cost the same as a typical 60k sportscar, yet it offers equal fun factor. That's the difference. It aint fast, but its inexpensive and its fun. ZX4RR unfortunately isn't in that category unless you give it that flash it needs, and also lower the price by a good 1-2k at least.
Kawasaki ZX4RR vs Yamaha YZF R7. You can do it Yammie! 😅
Already scheduled in the content calendar! Gonna be in July tho
@@yammienoob thats gonna be some juicy content
Looking forward to that vid, still thinking which one of the 2 i should get
@@tibocammermans1442 I’m getting r7
Are you planning on running stock for stock or modded on both ends?
Thank you for making such awesome videos! I just started riding, and I have a whole new respect for the skill that you guys have
I think once tuners get their hands on it and fix the throttle map so you actually get 100% when you ask for it, this will be a different machine.
they already have fixed it. you just need to get it flash tuned
You think? In EU it's already way faster just stock, the US model is so corcked up it's unbelievable
@@Nickvdb93 yes. 2 wheel dyno had a tune for a while now, the tune brings all models including the US one up to around 75 wheel i think was the number
You can only get so much out of 399cc’s
It’s already got air filters for it, ecu flash, full exhaust, velocity stacks throw some ceramic wheel bearing and lighter wheels 80+ to the real wheel and gobs more mid range with those parts it blows the old 400
Out of the water.. this dude keeps beating this thing like a dead horse. Throw the parts on it already and then tell us what it’s like geez dude!
The love I have for this channel is crazy thanks for all the tips I legit started 2months ago on a 94 Honda cbr600f2
Its completely fair to judge the zx4rr by it's specs and price wherever you are in the world and comparing it to other motorcycles in the sams class or maybe even above BUT it's also completely unfair to disregard and brush it off as a failure. It's an amazing motorcycle and it's existence should be welcomed as it adds more variety in it's class that is full of single or twin cylinder engines. It's a really cool machine and like all expensive toys. It's not for everyone.
Such a great video, and ty both for all of the data 🙂 I just recently upgraded from a fz6r to a 23 zx6r. Giant upgrade in performance lol
like these types of videos more !!! so much more, track boi here in Atlanta. I like the sit-down frame, talking about the bike performance and track use
For me it came down to my Zx4rr cost me 450$ yearly for registration as oposed to a 636 being 1900$ yearly, so yea , and the insurance aswell
wow
The main problem with this bike for serious track use is the steel frame. You’ll always get that elastic feel around the headstock especially when changing direction quickly.
Yammie, what's most interesting to me is how when you rode this bike on the street you were insanely giddy about your rides. What would be most interesting to me would be you doing a comparison on the difference between going from giddy on the street to sounding disappointed on the track. Not being passive aggressive bro, legit wanting your opinion on this
Man I swear sometimes the best part of my day is sitting on toilet and just watching some Yammie Noob videos. Thanks again Papa Yams 👍.
My bike is my first fly by wire as well and it is VERY temperamental especially when you hit a pothole or rough road conditions. Think I like the give of the cable throttle more.
Very good riding!
Excellent review and discussion. Confirmed a lot of my concerns that ultimately made me purchase a 2023 Ninja 400 KRT over this model.
I’ve ridden a Ninja 400, they are an absolute blast on any mountain or canyon road. I road the one I did in the Adirondacks in NY. Was such a blast up there
Will be interesting to see the reviews after a full tune.
Yammie, you have been doing great real world comparisons between bikes and i wonder, can you do comparison between Mt-07 vs Triumph Trident vs Honda Cb650r? Thank you for the content!
Awsome track video
Going on track looks like an absolute blast
Can’t wait for a ecu flash air filter and exhaust
Please do an ontrack comparison of a prepped ninja 400 and the ZX4RR it's more setup and flashed. That would be an epic video!
Taking heavily detuned ZX4RR on track day is just like doing a marathon with wet towel stick on your nose. Definitely need to re flashed to it original stock power, and take it to track again
Great video, what a crazy bike, scream scream scream - wonder if unchoking it & tuning it will do anything?
About another 25hp with a reflash.
From one motorbike you-tuber to another, well done great video. Find all of your content to be informative and captivating, well done
do you keep re record of lap times? If so, curious to know whst your best lap on the ZX4 was in comparison to bikes such as Ninja400, R7, etc
Brandon’s thoughts about it having less low down power than a ninja 400 make me really wanna see ninja 400 vs zx4rr where both have to shift at the same point, so similar to the test you did with the r6 vs rc390
I wanna see this 4RR vs Ninja400 vs old school (90's) ZXR400.
Would be interesting I think.
They should do an RC390 vs Ninja 400 vs Ninja ZX4RR comparison - single vs twin vs inline 4 400cc showdown!
Dis bike easily destroy ninja 400
USA is u lucky to get detune zx400 bec in asi dis bike already 78hp without any ecu flash
I'm sure curious what you would think of the Kaw rs Z900? My favorite bike for around city \ town \ traffic, im not a track rider but it sure seems like a good way to test what a bike has for all around performance.
I'm gonna bet once its tuned it will be a stronger base to mod off of. Will be cool to see how a race prepped one is vs the 400.
No, it wont.
@@hexagonosaurus5848 lol wut, the euro bikes already put out more power than built 400s and that's just a tune.
Damn so now we're gonna put even more money into it to compete with a 5.5k 400?

This fairly in-depth testing and analysis content on the zx4rr is some of the best content y'all have made. I'm looking forward to the results after the upgrades and flashed ecu.
I am too. They make lil over 70hp flashed. Curious to see it then. Faster than my 650 😅
We are too! ECU has already been shipped out and we are spooning on Dunlop Q5 tires for the next track test.
They ought to come with a coupon under the seat for a free Graves Motorsports flash tune.

yam i have the zx25r and you said you have to stamp on the pedal to shift - make sure you actually have quick shifter on. i didn't to start with - should say KQS or something on the tft display. just checking it's actually on
What if you live in Thailand and the price of zx4rr is around 10.5k USD. It is reasonable enough or still there are another better choice?
I got mine for just under 11k out the door, also have a 2023 ninja 400 krt abs that was almost 8k out the door. Worth the extra 3k especially after getting a tune from 2wheel dyno works imo.
Hey Yammi. A car just ran me off the road a couple of days ago. How do I get myself back on a motorcycle
Did it perform any differently when you removed the muffler?
Would love to see you guys run a 450SS on track. This bike is coming in hot competing with the standard Ninja 400
This
Reliability isn't proven yet..... It's chinese so parts could also be a nightmare to find.
@Big Rob While yes it does need to prove itself, the bike is using good brand components from Brembo, Bosch, and Continental just to name a few. This is in no way that stereotypical Chinese company that rips off other bikes.
@@beaulunawolf1198 agreed. yes, parts will be hard for the first year but here in the Philippines having cf moto for more than 3 years parts are not hard to find. I also have a 3 year old cf moto 400NK its still running well thats why i bought 450ss as my toy bike in tracks.
I put my headphones on for this one. That tag on the ignition key was a pain in the ass.
Would like to see how slightly shorter gearing and the tune would effect the low end
Looks to me to be the best Intro Track Day rent a wreck Learn to race class, or to sell along side an entry level racing and road training course for young/New riders. Also seems like a platform to work from, I imagine that the tuning magic can be found in there somewhere by the bit wizards and curve genies.
Does the -4RR have any factory programming to limit the bike in the break-in period? Is there a break-in period LOL?
I saw a few at my local dealership. So they are available w no problem..I'm in ny...nice bikes to see in person definitely...
Man that track is beautiful
the visual quality of this video is great
It's less thank $10k here in the Philippines but just a luxury bike. Like the 25r it has no pull and just cruises just before reaching redline
All the points are moot, if you’re going to give it full power. 53hp is not stock trim, it’s a U.S. market restriction 😊
I'm ALWAYS down for some track content
How can you give a honest evaluation with stock map and exhaust.
Eager to see what improvements can be unlocked. Otherwise this sounds a lot like the situation in 1989 when we had the FZR400 and the FZR600. The difference this time is the 636 is a MUCH more sophisticated design. Cartridge suspension and full power. Plus that minor weight disadvantage.
The rest of the story will be to see what the electronics change can unlock.
Will be interesting to see it again on track after Yammie tunes it
CAN YOU PLEASEEEEEE REVIEW 2022/2023 CB1000r And how it compares to yamaha xsr900
Don't forget to change the super tall 14T/48T sprockets to 13T/52T and 116T chain, plus the ECU flash.
It sounds amazing at a full boil. It's such an angry little hornet, I can't wait to see it post tune. I'm absolutely in love with it.
Can u ecu flash it to get the 70 hp then run it again.
Wich hp version was this the 53 or full 80 version
iam just getting into bikes but for me this is so much better that all the twins out there as its like the old school bikes and this is what makes me want this
I was really excited for this bike but the more i hear about it the better a regular ninja 400 looks.
Would be great to see this bike with the international factory tune and a tuners tune for comparison
My god yammie, I need you to flash this thing and rereview before mine gets shipped to PA and I have to make the decision on keeping my deposit lmaooo. I got my dealer to agree on msrp for the bike and to add the flash and exhaust when I pick it up, but the clock is ticking and this slow drip campaign has me blue in the boxers
I mean it sounds like you got a killer deal
Yammie please do full review of 450ss from Cf Moto
We have them for sale here in Topeka,ks
Tune it up and take it back to the track.
PAPA YAMS
Plz do a full video on garage tour
TST Industries put a full Akra exhaust from a zx25 on this bike. Made the bike sound amazing and combined with a ecu flash it will be a different machine.
The conclusions drawn in this video are absurd. They overpaid and didn't bother to do the trivial ECU flash uncork. I have a ZX-6R and honestly prefer the stock 4RR on the street, even with the stock US throttle nerfing. If you're an elder rider with multiple bikes, you need one of these in your garage.
Was here a few weeks ago with one of my cars. That track is so buttery smooth perfect pavement everywhere. Probably the only thing I noticed is that the rumble strips like ice.
which track is this?

As much as i want to buy this being a kawi simp i may just end up buying a 450SR from CF Moto. I would love to see the comparison video.
With its price i would rather go for r7 or zx6.. its worth if its a 3rd or 2nd bike
Sounds like this is a great beginner motorcycle for someone hoping to get a ZX6R once they have enough skill built up. I personally really like low rpm torque though. I wonder why nobody makes stoker 4 cylinders.
You know what would be a great video? ZX4RR vs early 90's ZXR400, both in stock trim I would put my money on the old ZXR400.
i think why zx4rr price is sky high because its a brand new developed engine that kawasaki has not done in very long time.. can you even remember when the last time any motor bike brand that made 400cc 4 cylinder..?? plus maybe kawasaki pricing it so high because there is no motor bike brand that make 400cc 4 cylinder nowadays.. not like in the past where every japanese motor bike brand had 400cc 4 cylinder engine.. yamaha, honda, suzuki them all had it..
so i think thats why it price is so damn high, because they are the first motor bike brand which brings 400cc 4 cylinder back to life..
Did ya’ll flash/tune it yet?
I work at a dealership and we have two of these sitting in the back.
The only thing people did on this bike from my country is to change the engine sprocket for more torque, other than that it's not neutered here unlike there. Hard to justify $13k out the dealer price when it's being sold for less here in my country, with about 78-80hp on the dyno. I personally want one, because tollways here only allow 400cc and above motorcycles to pass through.
That bike was made for the Asian Market and prolly the Euro market, not for Americans that complain how small a 400 is when it really is a big bike for us Asian dudes. 🤷♂️
Still waiting for that ecu flash and dyno video.
Up here in Toronto motorcycle insurance is insane, so I was wondering if you guys could make a video on best bikes to insure
Avoid 4 cylinders is a big one.
Anything that not a supersport basically I would assume!

This is the USA lower power zx4rr?
it seems that the problem with the zr25r is also experienced by the zx4rr too, the sound does sound really good because it's 4 cylinders but when it's driven for speed the power doesn't come out as expected & the price is more expensive than similar competitors😂😂
Name those similar competitors. Name one inline 400cc sportbike other than this. I'll wait.
It's because all the specs are stocks try to change some specs on that bike but thanks for the review ❤❤
I started riding dirt bikes when I was like 10 or 11. First street bike was a 300. I’ve had a 3rd gen SV650 for a few years. I want a second bike and have been thinking 4RR would be a blast. As as you said a zx6r or RS660 or gsx8r (twins I know trolls) there’s a tone of gsxr750’s in that ballpark too. I’m kinda scared of euro bikes costing an arm and leg for repairs and stuff. Not really interested in an r6 or 7 or Honda cb650r. I talking about a second bike for fun, would you go 636 or gsxr750, RS660 or GSX8R???
You can buy these! Seen one the other day at local dealer!! They got one of everything from Harley’s to Ducati’s to KTM’s!! Stuff you never see Benellie’s, huskavarna, Trimumps, stuff I couldn’t even pronounce! 😂 They had some custom one off electric off roaders that was crazy looking like a fat cat with an electric ⚡️ drive train! Oh they had those Gas gas bikes 700cc 2 strokes! CR500’s you name it!
Really want to know the difference between the ZX4RR & the chinese KOVE 400RR
I know one of the folks at Woolwich discovered that the Ninja 400 ECU could be "Dual Booted" for lack of a better term, with nothing more than an additional ground wire. It would be nice to find out that the proper higher spec was already loaded up on the 4RR's ECU and just needed something as simple as the old ZX6R Jumper Mod to unlock it.
Otherwise, having to pay that much for most of the bike and then pay for a flash to get the rest of it.. It's just unacceptable.
Have the ecu reflashed and retest it
The dealer got theirs for MSRP, if they wanted it for themselves, but more than likely they just demo it and send it out to sell as well cause you can get 15% extra margin (Minimum) plus financing, destination, and fees across the whole new model Motorcycle market.
as much as im loving all the zx4rr content, it is Hard to watch so many pre-flash videos, since it's not really true to the bike, and especially not true to the one im getting once deliveries come thru here.
Please tilt your camera up so we can see when you tuck😂
If im not mistaken the phillipines 4rr was 401cc i cant remember compare to US 399cc & the torque unbelievable that the third gear can go to 118mph
R7 all day every day. I saw one in the wild and it looked and sounded like the dude had stuck a Duc 1299 motor in an R1. Obviously it must've had a naughty silencer or maybe even a full system, but the combination of the sound and look induced major bike-boner.
Anyone else wat Yam's track content enough to actually know this track without ever being there? 😂
Sounds like it could really use a tune to fix that twitchy throttle
I think there’s big gains to be made with the little inline 4. I mean you could do soo much to it. Probably get it to rev to 16k and port the head. up the compression bigger cams. Bigger exhaust and a tune. I’ll bet there’s more on the table then a single or a twin.
Head work and cams, port the throttle bodies it will be pushing close to 100whp if not a lil more!! In stock form (non US/CAN ) tune😂. The bike is making 80hp… and it being 24.34 cubic inches (399cc) that’s about 3.25hp per cubic inch stock!!! In the world of hot rods and cars If you can get 1.5hp per cubic inch N/A you’re doing good!!!
100whp is very healthy amount to play with on the street and hopefully stay out of jail… and to be able do it all with 399cc motorcycle insurance premiums… beautiful 😎 Here in the US insurance premiums on the “super sports” is exactly that Premium 😢
yeah do all that shit or just get a 636 which is better in every way and the same price
@@thecamdenyard Just need simple flash and voila 25 hp
Yammi you had it dynod, why didn’t you have them tune it also to get the full power out of it? The fuel maps need to be opened up so would only make sense to use everything it has.
I'm confused about how this is a "street bike first" if the low-end and mid-range torque are so poor and the bike is uninspired until 10K+. Isn't that the opposite of what is suitable for the city and highway?
Just wait til it’s opened up 😊
There is a difference beteen 13000 with the throttle open and 1300 with the throttle part closed. Flash the CPU and you will find out I promise.
For any track junkie I think going to mod town is required for the zx4rr.
Im sure once you put some RS10/11's on that lil thang, it will handle noticeably better!
What's the major issue? Cuz I don't wanna watch the whole thing
