  • The Vision Zero is the Swedish approach to road safety thinking. It can be summarized in one sentence: No loss of life is acceptable. The Vision Zero approach has proven highly successful. It is based on the simple fact that we are human and make mistakes. The road system needs to keep us moving. But it must also be designed to protect us at every turn

I know atleast 1 way the roads can actually get safer...
    ALLOW MOPEDS TO DRIVE FASTER
Having a moped driving 45km/h in a 80km/h area just makes the road more dangerous as car drivers, truck driver etc will want to pass the mopeds... Even if its dangerous to do so (in a turn or even if theres someone else coming the other way)
Even see car drivers passing mopeds with about 5cm space between... Aswell as car drivers that *push* moped drivers OFF the road...
Even those that pass mopeds that are going 50 in a 50 area!
    Or are *right* behind
But not only that... Could be safer *and* easier for the moped driver aswell to go quicker in turns as it allows to have a smooth turn compared to doing it slow... Higher risk of actually falling over, and sliding on the road... Potentially hitting people or cars (this is more for turns that are kinda tilting aswell as the turn...)
I swear to god... If mopeds was allowed to drive even just 60 or 70... It would be 10x safer... AND, it does so that people wont be stuck in a line going 45-50 when they could go 70-80 instead...
So to actually be able to *reach* the 0 vision... Mopeds gotta either be fully banned or increase speed limit... Otherwise we'll never reach the 0 vision...
Unless individual roads are created for ONLY mopeds... And they go to every... single... area...
    Just a thought 😁

an impossible vision at that , a police propaganda enforcement tool, you want to make roads safer? Keep bikes and pedestrians off the road, simple as that. Common sense right.

Common sense, true, but increasingly out of date in this changing world as more and more people crowd into cities. Try to investigate another urban concept, that of "human space" that gives more freedom and liberty to residents in the downtown areas.

Fine. But there are two ways of doing that. (a) leave the road as it is and move the bikes and pedestrians elsewhere, assuming there is a convenient "elsewhere" to put them (or ban people from walking and cycling altogether?). Or (b) remove the cars. Stop the road being a road. Recognise that while we probably need to maintain access for motor vehicles, there are places where people walking and riding bikes and kids playing and so on need to take priority over the convenience of someone to, for instance, take a shortcut through a residential area in their car.

While you can argue that vision zero is an impossible goal it is very hard to argue that it isn't the most effective mindset if you truly want to save lives. Just look at how much Sweden cut their road deaths while more than doubling the number of cars on the road! New York has seen huge improvements in just a few years by implementing vision zero.

Andy Melo I know this is an old comment but how about we keep less cars on the roads? Improve on public mass transportation; hold careless, drunk, distracted drivers accountable for their actions.
Pedestrians, Bicyclists, have as much right to be on the roads as drivers. Yourself will be one day elderly, not able to drive. Let’s see how you like being a prisoner within your own community threatened by drivers because people like yourself did not take into account pedestrians and bicyclists from inception, when designing the roads.

Better idea. Keep cars of the road. You know, the massive blocks of metal that actually kill people. That is actual common sense. And no, I don't care that your comment is 5 years old. Your comment was just as idiotic 5 years ago as it is today.
