- Here for a strategy to help you beat the boss guarding the Sorcerer Advanced Job? This is your guide for tackling the Shrine of the Archmagus and how you can avoid getting melted by his magic.
This fight was done without any Advanced Jobs.
Jump to 16:54 for the details on the Advanced Job: Sorcerer.
Things I referenced in this video:
► GameFAQs thread - Shrine of the Archmagus (Spoilers):
gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/...
Recommended Level: 50. Surrounding area is Danger Level 45, Shrine is 50. Boss has 170k+ HP.
Requirements: One of each - Cleric, Dancer, Hunter, Apocathery and Merchant
Required Skills: Leghold Trap (Hunter), Heal More (Cleric), Sealtigce's Seduction (Dancer Divine Skill), Reflective Veil (Cleric), Hired Help (Merchant / Optional), Amputate (Apocathery / Optional)
Supports suggested: Saving Grace on all
Method:
Leghold trap on the boss, boost gives higher a debuff. This will force the boss to the last moves in queue, unless they're coming out of break.
Heal more boosted as high as you can on the party. Goal is 6~7500 HP per character. Saving Grace will allow for overhealing.
Build boost on your Dancer and Cleric.
Wait for the boss' initial debuffs against your party wear off. Especially the arrow with the cross, this prevents buffs being placed on your party. He will only cast this as his first move.
Cast Sealtigce's Seduction on your Cleric with your Dancer.
Cast Refelctive Veil on the party with your Cleric.
Start breaking the boss when possible and utilise fully charged Amputate and Hired Help Veteran Soldier (30k Leaves/Gold).
Once the boss starts casting his spells, it will reflect each of the 3 hits 4 times. (4 party members x 3 hits = 12 hits reflected)
If the boss uses the element he's switched to, he will break his own shield with this method, more or less semi-stunlocking him. (semi if you factor first move after break is always first)
The boss will also rotate it’s weaknesses after coming out of Break, making them unidentified. He will also increase his shield number to a maximum of 10 over a few rounds.
Thanks to the folks in this thread, they were a huge help:

Finally a logical guide, I remember watching a video of some dude calling his video a guide but in his video 2/4 his characters are already advance. Wtf
I always like to make sure I have a fair understanding of something before making a guide. Even if I'm a bit ineloquent in explaining.
it was this guys. this is the only one he has with no advanced classes
I have each guide in an order to allow for a path through them. You can find the order in the description.
Thank you so much for uploading these videos. As an RPG lover who hates optional bosses, I truly can’t fathom how I even feel because of your help. I wanted these Advanced Jobs, and I have Sorcerer thanks to you. I know this is just one comment on an older video, but I just needed to express sincere gratitude for this guide.
Cheers mate! Good to know the videos are helpful!
Thanks for all the info. Even when I sometimes messed it up I was able to beat it the first time I gave this ago.
THANK YOU!!!! I Struggled with this boss for very long time.
Just started to play this game and I haven't done any of the Chapter 2s on my characters, but they are around the 50s. This guide seems simple and straight to the point and now I am working on obtaining everything needed to go take him on.
Your guides are really well done, you've earned my sub.
Cheers, mate!
thanks so much for this!! I used your strategy but used therion w/apothecary, tressa w/cleric, ophilia w/hunter and primrose w/scholar :) your skill and attack strategy was perfect
Thanks so much for this! Been tearing my hair out trying to figure out a way to beat this guy.
Yay, it definitely feels good to get this boss out of the way!
Very in-depth video. This strategy is freaking genius! Will have to try this soon! Lol
It's so much fun to do. I wasn't expecting it to be as OP.
Finally been able to beat him... I am not much into these types of games... The only one I ever played was chrono trigger and I was okay with it... After watching this video I got the idea what to do... Thanks
Subbed bro. Love how u care to elaborate on vid and the effort to wrote it in description
No worries, mate. I try to make videos that I would want to watch if I were searching for the info. 😀
I literally had all the same characters and sub classes. This is perfect for me!
Thank you so very much! I finally beat him and got some confidence! Now I can beat the game! Thanks!
Just realised I wasn’t subbed, am now. Great guide
Thank you! Glad my guides are useful 🤓
Thank you so much for this strategy video. You are a lifesaver! I deeply say thank you.
This strategy was so good i just got the sorcerer. thanks dude and i subbed 👌
Way to go, mate! Things will get a lot easier from here on out!
Loving your content. So far I think Octopath is my GOTY...the more I play it the more I like it.
I'm really enjoying it, lots of good things about the game and the flaws are just typical flaws you'd expect with a JRPG.
A month or so later, it was a nice romp, but definitely lacked a bit.
Excellent guide!
This is an amazing guide!!! I just beat him in 25mins that was pretty fun! Thank you!
Amazing! Now you get even more firepower!
This video was so helpful, thank you so much
this worked liek a charm man! good vid! good help
Thanks for this guide. My party couldn't even survive two of his spells, and now I can get the class to steamroll the rest of the game
These are an absolute GODSEND. I was getting annihilated in these. Thanks 🙏.
Thank you, this was really helpful!
Thanks for your walkthrough of this sub class. I was able to defeat him on the 4th go, mainly because I failed to cast my reflect before he did a number on me.
Awesome advice!
Thank you!
Great video! This help me a lot I got it at level 47, hopeful you do the other 3 classes
Thanks
Definitely will be, lots of preparation to do each of them, hopefully another one will be out tonight.
Wish I watched your guide before I did this fight. This strategy way better than what I did. I did two Clerics but just pumped all their divine spell into Cyrus. Letting him break and attack two times in one turn.
I wouldn't have known if I didn't look. Would have been in the same boat!
Oh my god, thank you so much, your hints worked but came up with my own way to kick his bottom
Wow thank you so much! I was level 55 and couldn't beat it and I beated it second try after watching your video!
great guide! really liked it and finally beat the boss, greetings from chile;)
Yay, glad it helped ☺️
Thank you for this!😊
Thanks for the guide. I was able to do it with a similar setup. Mine was:
Therion - hunter lvl 50
Cyrus - dancer lvl 50
Ophilia - scholar lvl 44
Tressa - warrior lvl 47 (damage output, BP sharing and veteran warrior)
This looks like a solid line up!
Thank you! I love you!
Thank u so much . Got it at level 43 .
propz for a really really good tutorial. First try after watching your tips!
Amazing, glad you were able to get it done!
Anamana! Thanks! I found out that the 3x buff for the shield is enough since he only attacks three times ;) saves BP! Keep up the good work
Thanks for this video. Got through with 0 deaths.
:)
Reflective veal lol. It's yummy calf meat that bounces spells!
Delicious reflective 🍖
Haha, I'll need to stock up! Thanks for the tips - gonna have another go now (he murdered me first go, which is why I'm here!)
To be honest, the same happened with me! Couldn’t find a decent spoken guide, which is what I prefer myself.
Thank you for this guide. It took me 30 minutes to beat this sucker.
I used a partially different strategy. Warrior Ha'anit, scholar Ophelia, cleric Cyrus, dancer Tressa was my team. The crux of my strategy were the passives "the show goes on" and "persistence". These increase buff duration by 1 turn each on buffs cast and received, respectively. I used Ophelia to dump both scholar and cleric divine skills onto Cyrus, and Tressa to increase his damage with the dancer skill and feed bp. This allowed constant quadruple hit spells to break defenses, and when the defenses were broken, each hit was dealing 9999. Ha'anit just tagged on damage with warrior divine skill, leghold trapped, and used bp items. I was level 40 and I didn't have access to the dancer divine skill. I had saving grace on Cyrus and Ophelia for their survivability.
This also sounds pretty solid for a strategy!
Thanks for the tips ! I was 49 when I did it, went quite well with the strategy that you explain after a few try by myself ! I personally had H'aanit as Scholar, Ophilia as Dancer, Alfyn as Warrior and Tressa as Thief 😁
Keep going, you make an awesome job 😉
Nice work, mate!
I found that you can give a downed ally 9999 hp if you have saving grace equipped and use a Olive of Life (L) on said ally.
I was using this tactic the other night, it's pretty OP for healing!
Which character has saving grace?
Saving Grace is a Support skill from Cleric job. You can learn it after learning 7 cleric skills on a character, then you can equip it at any time.
I don't even know what was going through my mind when I said Dancer. Apologies, I knew that.
Yeah, it's pretty awesome. But don't let down your guard. This guy can easily do 5k damage in one turn.
little late to the party but thank you so much for this!
How do you get the reflective veil on all characters ? I can’t seem to do that
Finally a guide that only uses characters with the normal secondary jobs.
You said that the Saving Grace does 2xs the HP, but it actually will go as high as any heal. if you use an Olive of Life (L) it will put them at 9,999 no matter what their max HP is. Try it.. It's super useful.
Thanks for the advice. I just beat him and somehow have my no wipe streak still going.. Two more to go.
Thanks a bunch for this. I’m about to start preparing for this fight, so I’m glad to have this guide. I like your videos ... you have an unpretentious yet confident attitude that is very pleasing to listen to. Quick question ... would you suggest getting this advanced skill first? I don’t have any yet, so I’m looking to do the easiest one first.
rosejorg Sorcerer I do first, other bosses rely on the ones I unlock in order. If you can manage to do it in another order, I’d love to hear!
One major advice for anyone who wants some advice to build this class, keep it on your main magic users, also if you have runeblade as a party member, make sure to keep a rune on the sorcerer, next use elemental break and watch as the rune activates and leaves everything in the dust because rune damage scales with magic damage
What worked for me was
Haanit as my main damage dealer. She was Hunter/Apothecary. She would start with Empoison, attack with beasts and using the forbidden bow
Cyrus was doing the chip damage with the elemental attack as Scholar/Merchant. Only due to having wind magic.
Primrose as Dancer/Thief. She was mainly use to chip with dagger and sword while summoning.
Ophelia as Cleric/Warrior. She was healing while summoning. She only attacks if she didnt need to heal. (When he was broken)
Nice! I still need to look into Forbidden weapons.
Empoison is seriously underrated as a skill, especially for drawn out fights like bosses and duels. I've had Olberic solo bosses I had no business beating purely because he could sustain through the damage and chip down through free attacks and poison ticks.
I've just started taking notice to this skill, it's pretty good.
Another thing would be - is to use Alfyn (as a cleric) and this way you can create BP potions (saving the pomegranates as I think those are the only things you can't purchase, and I know there's an animal but not sure which one you can grab them from). If you have someone with the Apothocary class in this fight and have that divine skill - then 1 item goes to everyone.
you also - in case the reflective shield breaks -(this happened to me once) have wind clothing. this seems to be the one that he spams the most (though maybe i benefited from RNG.
out of all the special classes this one was my favourite and I actually did it twice, (I have two save files).
I saw people mentioning Alfyn being super useful for building resources. But my Alfyn is severely underleveled. 🤕
Where can you purchase them?
i beat this untouched using alyfn rehibalate and divine skill dancer with reflective veil its op thank u for showing us this easy way to defeat him
So after getting my butt kicked to the Warmaster, I came here. This boss along with this strategy was MUCH easier! Thanks for making it! I didn't even know/think to try some of these abilities and combinations. I never used "Reflective Veil" because...well, I'm usually just all about attacking, healing and buffing. And not all enemies use Elemental attacks, so why risk it when I can just attack? Just want to get fights done and do as much damage as possible. Can't do that with these fights though.
I just cleared this dungeon with most of your strategy at lvl 40 and some mid 30's i had my therion as the main dps with aebers reckoning dealing between 12k-21k
Well this certainly helped. On my own, I kept dying before I even got him to half health lol
Wow finally i can choose all the character job alrdy but too sad some of the dungeon need lv 50 but tks for the video i love it
For how powerful they are, I’m glad they’re higher level. ☺️
A better strategy is to also use the cleric ability that allows you to cast twice and primroses ability that allows you to cast on all Targets.
That way you cast reflect twice getting a full set of 8 each time. (With full boost) and you're basically pretty much set in the entire match you just have to keep refreshing.
This definitely makes a lot more sense to do. Slowly learning all of these skills and their uses hah!
How does that make sense. Primroses ability is to cast on all foes. Not allies.
Try it, obviously it works.
@@AnamanaCh Didn't deny it works exactly, I questioned it making sense. Over the 40 or 50 hours I've played I've found a few things like the lacking descriptions. I'm glad I was able to verify that some items and support skills, XP and JP are party affecting. I'm blazing through leveling now without relying on my early x100 XP and JP bewilderingly grace
GANTZ100pts that’s why I did for starseer. After I had that, i smashed sorcerer with party wide debufs and reflects.
I started to watch this guide but stopped right at the start of your battle. I really felt like I could best him on my own. And I did using soul stones, reflect and aebors reckoning. Just kept a better eye on my health. My team is level 60 except for one character who is 39. I'm not done with the game I have 6 more stories to finish. Now that I beat the boss on my own I'm gonna listen to your video and see what we did different. I wouldnt say I had a strategy, I just watched my health and use soul stones that were the weakness when he would lower my stats and timed it so he couldnt use his ultimate move. Worked out lol
Oh also I equipped stuff that reduce elemental damage. Otherwise it was pretty much a straight forward item fight lol
If you are at like level 25 or 30 and have sealticge seduction and manage to not die while getting to the shrine, you can pretty much have a OP Sorcerer early game
I am way late to the octopath party. I am at the end game now but didn't get these hidden classes yet. I had no clue until watching this video that you could boost buffs and debuffs. I always thought it was strictly damage.
i see you've taken my advice on fighting the archmagus first
Indeed, good idea! Will definitely be helpful for upcoming bosses. 😀
Just yesterday I was level 47 for my main team but by using Bewildering Grace, I got super lucky as I got the Exp x100 and it literally boosted me up to level 65 lol. Great guide, I can finally start getting those secret classes : )
Oh damn, amazing work!
First one down. Thank you.
Something I noticed to make this a little faster is get his shield to 1 and don't break it. Let him do that so 11/12 hits are double damage instead of only a couple.
This is a smart way to do it! Maximize that damage!
Just completed this before bed. Had an idea on how to do it but seeing it in action helped a ton so thanks. Managed to do it with everyone lvl 42-45 and no over healing. Unfortunately the bastard never reflected his weakness. Take too long and he casts that no buffs allowed again. 😭
Good to know! I feel like explanation plus full video works well for showing how it’s done.
Yep. Until I watched yours my Dancer and Cleric were the same person. That never would have worked lol.
Using your jobs as guides for my teams this is what i have:
Alfyn the hunter
Ophellia the scholar/starseer
Cyrus the merchant(or cleric)
Therion the dancer.
I finally got the runelord class. Was a lot easier than I expected.
Maybe I should get that next? What did it involve?
Anamana! I had the sorcerer class so that did help a bit. The most important things are wakeful stones and concious stones though. Apothecaries can be quite helpful as well because of the ability to remove particular debuffs they have and also the support skill they give which increases particular debuff resists. I don’t fully remember it for two reasons, which I won’t really get to into detail about, but i do remember that at a certain point in, mr. Runeblade starts throwing down aoes, so bring a cleric, i used Cyrus for this. Also i used apothecary Olberic, i lost the first match i had pretty much entirely because I hadn’t equipped olberic with surpassing power in it. Also he got hit with either sleep or unconcious. Mmm... yeah, you should treat this more like a vague guideline than anything, again, don’t remember much- but what i do remember is, olberic’s warrior class divine skill sped the fight up SO much, and abide made that so much better.
As for equipment I don’t remember much of anything about it in the slightest except that the most important gear are the wakeful and concious stones.
Tldr: be wary of ‘sleep’ and ‘unconscious’.
He also had a weird gimmick with his vulnerabilities that i forgot about, and this made my successful attempt against him much easier, because he’ll activate that gimmick as his initial first move- but i broke him before he used it. He then proceeded to never try and use said gimmick until he was almost in the yellow. Then he kinda went back to normal, but he is a bit more offensive if you mess his vulnerability gimmick up.
This is good info to go by, thanks for taking the time ❤
Beat the old man just a few minutes ago. It was easier than I thought it would be. I had Tressa as the Rune Lord.
Congrats! Would have been interesting to do this with a different setup.
I always thought primrose with cyrus was powerful but cyrus (as cleric) with primrose in this video... they are just the god and goddess
I’ve been trying to fight this shrine boss but for some reason the reflective veil will not go onto all characters? How do I do that?
Amazing guide, what equipment did you take? Mind sharing please...
Going to be away from the internet and my Switch a few days, but mostly stacked gear with elemental defense and elemental attack on caster. The strategy is more important than gear. I’m just using whatever, no best in slot.
I'm about to tackle it right now, I have Olberic as a Warrior/Hunter at level 66
Primrose as a warrior/dancer at level 61
H'aanit as a Hunter/Merchant at level 60
And Ophelia as a Cleric/Scholar at level 66
How do you get their HP that high? I've tried this strategy and can clearly see how well it works, but whenever I go for the over-heal buff mine only goes just a bit above their max, and not double and beyond like your characters do.
I belive its one of the job passive skills, just level up the jobs and you should get it
Do support skills like the show goes on and persistence help in this fight?
They do for keeping buffs up.
Couldn't you have broken him before he casted that first spell? So you can do your set up straight away? Anyway, great guide. Thanks,
I wonder how soon I can unlock this...
I am planning to do it once ophillp and haanit(main) to lvl 50. Tessa should be around 46 - 48 ish while my other is around 30 lol
All of his attacks appear to be elemental. So what i could do is use the bp skill of ophilia as a starseer on cyrus and herself, have cyrus as a dancer and use the divine skill on ophilia, then use reflect on everyone, and be essentially immune to all attacks the entire round, right?
Curious why you did not use Alfyn instead of H'aanit. You could simply give him Hunter as his secondary job for the sake of Leghold Trap. The main reason for him is Concoct using Purifying Dust and Essence of Pomegranate. It gives 2 BP to the entire party for each use.
This video is from launch, we didn't know as much then, my dude.
Do you plan on moving your water mark so we can see the area name along with the LVL please!
Possibly in future, all of these areas are around level 45, with the dungeon and boss being level 50. I do put that in one of the info strips at the top of the video.
What was your equipment setup for this fight, you said you were going to cover it but then skipped that
Do you know where to find the pomegranates at in this game
do you know what gear you were using in this video?
I dont know, but anyhow the combination of divine skill on my cleric + heal more only overheals the cleric which has the corresponding passive skill.
Am i doing something wrong here?
If you’re using the scholar divine skill. It’s making your heal more Target one. The Cleric divine skill double casts.
Awesome strategy dude! I beat with probably less than 3 times of total reflection. The key is keeping breaking him until he is only one break away from total break, and I was really luck that during one turn. He has one break left, and then he was also under his own 'increase elem damage' buff, and the first group elem attack he uses is dark (which just happened to be his weakness that turn). So the first reflect broke him and the next 11 times were massive damages... Also probably because all my teammates are in Lv 60... So I probably overpower a little here as well. But great video, since this is my first advance job in the game.
Good tactics! I always tried to do that kind of thing, but was too busy flailing around to line the timing up right. 😂
My strategy was just like this except it took me 8 hours.... of resetting 😂
Oh man this is almost broken I love it
How did you do the overheal how to get that skill?
Sealtigce's Seduction - For 3 turns, skills performed by a single ally that usually target one foe will affect all foes instead. (This will not affect divine skills.) ** I'm confused is there a difference between version i tried this and it didnt work
What do you mean?
On my version I get the same effect as you, Sealtigce's Seduction doesn't work with divine skill and thus can't be used that way.
You aren’t supposed to be using it to put a divine skill on everyone. The guide doesn’t say to do that. Reflective Veil is a standard skill. The wording may say foe, but it works with ally spells too.
I sub just found your channel
How were you able to overheal so much? Mine only goes up an extra 1k
I use a team of Primrose,Cyrus,Olberic and Ophilia. Is there a type of team set up you recommend?
Just choose jobs to pair up with characters so you can use the skills in this guide. Not much more I can say.
Reflective veal
Why are there so few trees blocking your camera in the woods O.o Is there a way to hide foreground objects I'm missing?
I turn off some of the special effects and alter the brightness in settings.
Damn, I'd have thought it would be called something different. Thanks, that'll help a ton in trying to explore.
Thanks for the video, too, I managed to get this boss down at level 50 on my second try, without really needing to change... basically anything about the party I've been running with for two chapters.
Now my Primrose is looking to be overpowered. Had enough JP to instantly learn all the elemental attacks plus SP saver.. just need to get the JP and XP jobs ASAP, I'd like to have the super jobs as soon as I can so I can fully enjoy them as long as possible.
This job absolutely broke the game for me. My Cyrus has infinite sp and one shots way too many things
My primrose is in the same boat.
What abilities are you using? I’m confused as to what abilities to use for more DPS and SP Sustainability.
CrimsonStigmata sp sustainability mostly comes from sp saver and second wind, second wind’s regeneration is more effective the higher your max sp.
Exactly what he said. I can cast the sorcerer spells and get all the sp back at the end of the attack
I'm excited to get it leveled up and incorporated into my party!
yeahhh thanks, i did the boss on level 37 yeahhh
How did you even survive the first wave of attacks at that level
@@LeonStephan break him as fast as i could and after i could buff i used bp items on primrose so she can use her devine on Ophelia and i cast reflect on everybody. After that it's only "try to survive" haha
Excuse me for being late to the party but may i know at this point which characters' chapters have you completed ??
It’s been a year since I touched the game. I wouldn’t remember that, mate.
@@AnamanaCh alright, thanks for the reply 😅
I wonder if people have gotten the advanced second jobs without getting any the other second jobs
I'm sure many have, I just wanted to unlock them all in the easiest order for me.
Out of the four advanced jobs which one should i defeat first?
How is your main the same relative level as the rest of the crew?
I haven't really used other characters much, this is my main party.
I already had the Warmaster job só for me it was much easier
H'aanit - Warmaster (Phs Dmg)
Olberion - Merchant (Suport and Phs Dmg)
Alfyn - Dancer (Suport)
Ophillia - Scholar (Suport)
My strategy consisted on refletive spells on the whole party by using The Dancer Divine Skill and the just spams Divines Skills from Warmaster and Warrior
can i change my protagonist once i completed his storyline?
Yep, once you finish their 4th chapter, they are unlocked.
