For French people the jeu de paume is very famous because the room where they played the game at Versailles is the room where the representatives of the people swore to write a constitution. So the jeu de paume is famous because it was the place where French democracy was founded
Democracy was not founded there. It was not founded in france. It was not founded in the 18th century. It was not even the beginning of french democracy
I don't know where you're from, but in the Midwest at least, we have pickleball. Named for the pickle boats (I forgot what pickle boats are, but they don't have anything to do with real pickles). It's tennis for people too short to ride the adult rollercoasters (pretty much lol, but it's just tennis close the the ground)
@@maeghanscott9804we play that too in louisiana, but pickleball is actually very popular, its actually the fastest growing sport in the US. We played a game called gatorball. The rules are 1. Throw a pass with a football to someone in front of you 2. If you throw the ball while a teammate is behind you its a turnover 3. If a receiver catches it they have two options a: stop moving where they catch it and get to throw the ball from that point (players given some leeway for momentum b: keep moving, but if they get tagged its a turnover at the spot of the tag 4. The offense has 4 downs to score (we reset downs whenever we feel like its a first down) 5. You score by reaching the opposite end of the gym (for us the endzone is past the baseline of the basketball court) 6. If the defense intercepts it, its a turnover and the same options for rule 3 are given
Fun fact: the name of the sport 'Tennis' was derivated from the french imperative 'Tenez' (I think it translates to 'here' in English, but in a sense of warning the other player) that the 'Jeu de paume' players said while (or before) serving. It was repeated by the English and transformed to 'tenetz' and then to 'tennis'.
@@molybdaenmornell123hopp5 There could be a confusion in the sense that 'tenez' doesn't really mean 'here' and would rather mean 'hold', but in this case, 'tenez' doesn't directly translate to 'hold'. I would understand it as: "Here, I'm giving you the ball (serving), beware" (similar to what they do in volleyball). And in that case, I don't think 'hold' would be the most appropriate translation. But since I'm French and English isn't my native language, I believe you if you say it is.
I feel like the French made this up just bc they couldn't play real tennis. Like those weird hybrid sports u had to do in gym class "tennis-basketball"
If you’re a guy, you know how this came about. Weather was bad outside for a couple of days and some dudes had time and big room. And they invented a new game

Oh wow cool, I remembered learning it happened on a tennis court. Never even thought "huh, wonder if it's not the tennis I know of"
I learnt about it in last week's history class.
It is the part of The French Revolution
Yeah, when he said "I guarantee you never heard of it" I was like "GUESS WHAT!🤣"
"I win, right?"
*Kings don't just, **_lose_** ...*
i love how he says “this weird sport” infront of a professional player
Lo que es
This is the kinda sport the P.E teahher makes us play instead of a normal fucking game

My dad was actually almost a world champion in this sport he barely didn’t qualify
bet he never shuts up about it

I think 'hold', not 'here'.
That's not true "tenez" is the conjugation of "tenir" at the pronoun "vous"

@paddyp3457 . We will win so much millionaires need not worry😂
Me too, channel 4 in the UK ran a season of it in the late 90s, it never caught on tho
The great ace attorney is such a good game, so glad the music is getting more popular

You didn’t just sneak in the Vsauce theme, now did you?
Love that you used the match point challangers soundtrack lol
I love your shirt!
Real tennis!! My school has a court, I love it
My guy I learnt about this in history last week
He pops off so hard i love it 😂
I first learned of real tennis on an episode of Citation Needed by Tom Scott, noting that real tennis is perhaps "the most middle-class sport"
My dad is lucky enough to have played this strange sport!! Very rare, very special
He's so happy to hit that goal!
I actually play this sport competitively and im ranked in the country.
The professional jeu de paume player just standing there while Max calls his profession "this weird sport".
This is why tennis is an french invention and squash too
It's like a mix between tennis and racquets.
Ace Attorney music??? Man what a banger
As someone who took history i happily guessed correctly
Heard of it, played it, won tournements
The Vsauce music 😤😤
The vsauce music😭
Why would I not have heard of real tennis? I remember watching the highlights of this of Transworld sports back in the day
I had an education, so I've heard of it
Also called Ball badminton in my area , pretty popular among oldies
Thank you A Level for PE for teaching the answer to the question and proving Max wrong.

By the way, Cricket is called "the sport of kings"
Because to professionally you need a lot of item with would cost you very much
I can now see why Lawn Tennis took off. Easier to understand. The King seemed to have just made up the game and rules to suit himself
Learnt about it in history
No, I have heard of it
Make more French related nato short
So... that's basically tennis?
IVE BEEN TO THAT EXACT PLACE
I tried learning it once I still don't get it
I've actually heard of it before
I went to a court of royal tennis, and it had a stench of privelege. I cant describe it, but thats just how it smelt…
