- This week marks twenty years since the release of Divine Divinity which eventually lead us to Divinity: Original Sin 2. Talking a bit about my experiences with the series, the deep discounts the franchise has right now, and a bit about each game in the series.

If BG3 does really well, I could see Larian becoming a two team studio. Then they could continue both IPs.
Baldur's Gate III is huge both in scope and ambition. Also Larian is not know for DLCs, so once they release a game, they will simply refine it with new features and an enhanced edition. This actually works quite nice, as the team which worked originally on the game gets more tight-knit and acquainted with their tools.
They will probably move the whole team back to the Divinity series and allow BG3 some room to grow. Mods will also probably be a big thing there.
@@8wayz2shine BG3 might be the game where DLC are perfect for Larian to do since they wont be adding the "non-base" game classes & races from DnD. Wizards of the coast could just commision them again to add the "Goliath race" & the "Hex Blade Class", thats enought of a DLC to alot of people especially DnD fans.
Divine Divinity, the most underrated crpg, EVER.
Drakensang would take that title for me instead, but Divine Divinity is certainly a game that more people should play.
DOS2 is one of the greatest RPGs of the modern gaming era. And i'm extremely excited about BG3 - i have 480 hours clocked in Early Access as of time of writing this. I think Larian is an incredible studio - talented people, with a great sense of humor and phenomenal writing skills. Not to mention, very passionate and loving the stories they are writing. And love and respect their fans. Plus I have to say their coders are real good too! It's incredibly hard to translate tabletop mechanics of D&D onto "screen" and make it fun at the same time. Overall, i can't wait for 2 things - when they give me my brothers, Half-Orcs, to play as and the full release. Something tells me that the full release is when i get that... but oh well...
Love the video, Dragon Commander was a fun gem of feeling like a fantasy president whose also a battle dragon. And I really hope the next Divinity game doesn't canonize the Lucian ending in DOS2, it just feels wrong on so many levels lol.
Yeah Lucian's alignement is stupid evil in this game. His plan ensures that when demons/Damian or whatever new threat appears Rivellon is screwed. And I would never go along with him even if his ending wasn't stupid, he's the worst. I imagine those who played as him in the 1st game must have been miffed a bit by his actions in DOS2.
@@armelior4610 Honestly, if you told me that the Div2 rebranding era rumors that Divinity is based on a home game in larian whose plot shifts with who is mostly playing were confirmed for true, with a new hire/someone that till then wasnt into TTRPGs and didnt read any prior lore of the character (or wasnt given it by the DM/GM) was given the chance to roll as Lucian, id 100% believe it.
Thank you so much for doing all this videos about the Divinity series.
I´m on my second playthrough of DOS2 and I'm so paxionate about that game that I started playing DOS1, and of course I watched all your videos about all the other games of the series, to know more about the lore.
Like you, I hope to see a sequel for Divinity series, no matter if it is a direct follow up of DOS2 or Divinity II, both parts of the lore are insteresting to me.
Congrats for all your work and a lot of success for your channel.
Playing through the Source Saga for the first time and just started my playthrough of Original Sin 2. So far...
...Wow
Congrats to the series for running so long cause it just made a new fan. Can't wait to try the rest of them
I assume that, as far as turn-based RPG's go anyway, BG3 will sell a bunch. But I still feel like there can be room for another Divinity game (Creatively, at least. I have no idea what's going on with Larian's development resources). Like BG3 can tone down the elemental chain reactions and things like that in order to highlight the D&D ruleset while a new Divinity game could completely lean into that stuff.
It's crazy that it's been 20 years since the first Divine Divinity. I remember it very fondly playing it after playing Diablo I & II and being mindblown when I was able to pick things up and move them which boosted my explorer's brain to new heights. The music was phenomenal as well: RIP Kirill Pokrovsky.
My first Divinity game was Divinity 2 I believe, back in 2009 or 2010. I was so excited when the first Original Sin was announced since I was really into tactical games.
Love dos2. Besides some games that are probably seen through nostalgic glasses, its probably my all time favorite. It's also what brought me to your channel. I certainly hope Larian makes a dos3, I'm not sure I'm going to like bg3 as much. But you've got me starting poe and then wotr, so I've got something to do till then. Thanks for all the great content
D:OS 2 is one of my favorite games, so I'm always pushing friends to buy it; with it on sale now I can peer-pressure away!
This was an awesome mini retrospective! Thanks for sharing! DOS2 is great even with it’s flaws
I only played DOS2 from the series, its a great RPG, one of the best i ever played, it has its downsides but overall its an amazing game. I played one playthrough with 3 other friends, 4 man coop and that was the most fun I ever had playing an RPG in my life and closest i ever got to playing DnD. The randomness and failings i experienced were never seen in a one man playthrough since you just play yourself. I am happy Larian grew to such a great company and I have high expectations from BG3 which many say is a DOS3. While I dont agree with that there are some similarities since its the same developer. I hope we also get a real DOS 3 sequel at some point, maybe a completely different story .
I've played all Divinity games and always loved them for freedom of approach both to plot and character development. While many games discourages mixing 'mage tree' with 'warrior tree', in Divine Divinity I've played as a sourcerer with quite good close combat skills, in Dragon Knight Saga I've played as a mage-necromancer-warrior-archer and in DOS 1 and 2 I've mixed almost everything.
Also Kirill did a great job with music. He created masterpiece after masterpiece for each game. DOS 2 soundtrack, while still quite good and dynamic, is nowhere near previous games.
As I'm not a fan of D&D in terms of basically everything (setting, character development, system of classes etc. etc.) it was a shame that they decided to create BG3 but I still hope that it will be great game.
Original sin two is one of my favorite games of all time. I love it’s combat so much that I struggle playing any other game like it that doesn’t have similar combat. Tried playing pathfinder kingmaker and I couldn’t get into it because of the combat. Hopefully I can get into wrath of the righteous though because I really want to try that
Wrath of the righteous is amazing. Try your best to go through the combat because there are so many other things that the game does perfectly.
I'm in the same boat, thinks made more sense once I learned how to play DnD. My advice? Lower the difficulty in the beginning until you get used to how stuff works.
2:50 the biggest plothole would be Lucian, comparing Divinity 2 Ego Draconis and Flames of Vengeance with D:OS2
Funny how I started doing games 100% and playing by series not by game, and found your channel =)
Personally I'm very interested in Damian and the continuation of his story. I loved him in D2, and that ending, ooof.
Divinity Ego Draconis is the game of my life. I love the story, the gameplay, charachters and soudtrack. And i love played like a dragon. A remake would be amazing.
Got DOS2 on sale on play station and I'm super stoked
DOS 2 was got me into CRPGs, haven't looked back since and can't wait for BG3!
I had purchased Divine Divinity back when it first released and loved it! Ended up getting all the other games when released. Some are certainly better than others. Can't wait to see their finished version of Baldur's Gate 3
Dragon Commander was a neat game. The closest thing I’ve played was I Of The Dragon (it’s an obscure old game on GoG) and some parts of Drakengard. I need to finish it sometime.
Man divine divinity was amazing. I had a rough time first playing it when I was like 9 lol still have the disk somewhere. But so nostalgic for me
Should start my first playthrough of divinity original sin 2 next week. Excited but a little intimidated.
I love the BG series, but I also hope they go back to Divinity. In the same way I hope Owlcat makes another Pathfinder after the Warhammer Rpg. I get studios want to try new things, but as you mentioned, I think sometimes studios forget you can try new things in the universe you made, you don't always need to start in another universe.
Played them all. Great series. Great developer!
6:50 _Divinity II: Director's Cut_ was fun and really interesting quest-wise. I eventually got to a point where I felt under-leveled (or bad builded) and bored with the grind... that I probably could've skipped if I wasn't such a completionist. >.>
9:11 _Divinity: Dragon Commander_ was even more fun and interesting (plot-wise). Need to get back to it someday. Loved the dynamic of the council. lul
Did you leave out the dialogue and politics of Dragon Commander? :O That's the biggest selling point. All the decisions you make on the ship play out in the world and affect the map. Straight *politics, son.*
i'd like to see divine divinity remade.
Always surprised other games never stole the pyramids from the Divinity games, they're present right from the very original game as a kinda alternative to the town portal scroll but this ability to place your waypoint anywhere and then with the added bonus of CO-OP from the newer games, it turns this convient teleport back to town into a super teleport that can be used in tons of different ways.
Finally picked up an extra copy of dos1 & 2 to introduce to the gf. So excited for her lol
My favorite isometric rpgs of all time. Hopefully Baulders Gate comes to console as D&D in Divinity play style should be fantastic.
Feels like 20 years of waiting for BG3
Its been 22 years if you count since BG 2 came out. It will be 23-24 years after BG2 before we get the 3rd part, meaning some of us most likely will not live to see BG 4 ....
Trying to get through all the Divinty games seems like an interesting way to try and get through the continued dirth of new RPGs currently 🤔
So I went in thinking I'd get about 100 hours out of divinity 2 when it went on sale last week.
Boy was I wrong.
I'm about 50 hours in right now and I'm still at driftwood finishing up the beginning of act 2.
This stuff is real thick with lore like you can't imagine.
Can't even walk down the street without seeing multiple quests and things to do.
Stuffs crazy
Why didn't you mention the mindreading in D2? It was the feature that interested me and my friends at the time, that you could use some of your exp to mindread some secrets or quest info.
I really hope Larian returns to the Divinity universe after BG3. Even though I haven't played most of them, just DOS2, but yea... they had some interesting twists on the standard fantasy fare I'd like to see fleshed out. Also it feels like they really wanted to build up their Orc and Goblin races but just didn't for DOS2. I wish they had been playable.
DoS 2 is probably no.1 RPG game with BG2, DAO. They've done awesome job here. I wish BG 3 will be a huge success, they deserve it ( I have already 300+h in EA xD)
A remade Fallen Heroes would be great!
I hope they make a dd3, i started with divine devinity and then played 2, i really like the series.
I didn’t know there was so many divine divinity’s lol
did larian say that after the bg3 expansion they are going back to divinity? I know they aren't going to do another bg game but I don't know if they were going back.
i really need to finish ego draconis ^^;
One of the few games i finish two or three times. I love this game.
May you wander in wisdom too :)
I was wondering what are some of the consistency & inconsistency with the Divinity Lore as someone who is playing Divine Divinity & Beyond Divinity?
My first was Dragon Knight Saga. I remember enjoying it but it was nothing mind blowing.
Next I played was Dragon Commander. Its honestly worth playing for the dialogue & choice trees alone. Really funny game.
I remember TotalBiscuit covering Original Sin. I miss that man. He got me really excited for it.
This was around a time where RPGs had just been abandoned by tripleA companies & I had just been playing the same games on repeat for years.
But when it came out I was honestly bored by it & found the combat frustrating. I then went back & completed Fallout New Vegas for the billionth time.
I completely ignored 2 as a result until I really saw how much they had improved things & how they let you play as a lizard or undead. I'm sure that info came from your channel.
But I fell off it also & still haven't completed it. Much more interested in Baldur's Gate 3 in all honesty. Playing as a lizard or undead is really the only thing that holds my attention was Original Sin 2.
Just want to chime in and say for the UI scaling in DD and BD, just use 720p resolution. Game looks great, fits a native widescreen 16x9 monitor, and is perfectly readable and playable.
DOS3 for the win!
I wonder where the story will go from here, in the past, the future, theya re done with divinity?
Dude, how to see u playing games live. do you have a twitch?
Im not live very often but occasionally I stream on the channel here
@@MortismalGaming thanks Mort. Let us know in the community tab when next u r streaming.
While i didnt like the og Divinity, i spent so much time on DKS/Ego Draconis way back in the day that its only rivaled by DAO and NWN2 as far as non-MMO games go.
I've played some of Divine Divinity 1, bounced off the second game you mentioned, but I really enjoyed Divine Divinity 2, even if it was a bit clunky and rather goofy. After that though sadly they shifted to genres that really don't suit me. Especially Divinity original sin 1 and 2. I just can't do turn based tactical rpgs.
Would be nice to get an honest update on our Divinity board game Kickstarter. . . .
I probably will before too long, was hoping to see feedback from the recent play testing they were doing first.
@@MortismalGaming Sorry wasn't requesting it from *you*! My GF ordered the deluxe kickstarter for me, she's been so upset about the entire thing.
Divine Divinity is still the franchise champ.
I actually tried divine divinity long before I played dos2. It was less then a dollar on steam and the ad was p funny.
I couldn't really get into it though. I didn't really understand how combat worked.
I'm sure they will get to dos3 at some point. Though personally I hope they mildly tone down the crushing nilism.
I never played the first one will I be lost if I play this one?
Can you be more specific? I talked about six games here.
@@MortismalGaming Original Sin 2 is that a sequel?
I just saw an old trailer for it on CZcams and it looked fun but I didn’t know if I needed to play the first one.
@@AstaIsAMonster You dont need to play DOS1, it's mostly irrelevant to DOS2
@@MortismalGaming ok cool.
So do they explain what happened in the first game at all in the sequel just wondering
Also in this game is the player you play as a good guy or do you play as a villain in the game?
You should rerelease lore videos about divinity lore as one big video. There quite a lot of work to look at your library of videos for search for specific kind of videos
Personally while the divinity world lore is great, it is a lil too discworldy for me at times. I have a preference for classic high fantasy like the forgotten realms.
Brother morty make a lore about lady malady...im still waiting btw
Not much to say, you see everything about her in DOS2, she doesn't appear anywhere else
@@MortismalGaming oh i think you know a litte bit about her
free comment.
"twenty years of divinity" sounds like doing a bit too much cocaine. really great franchise though
Dragon Commander is... not even a game. It's more like a comedy show. They somehow even managed to make hilarious undead with undead cancer.
EDIT. And let's not forget Kobold bride.
I'm going to play BG3 and enjoy it, but I really wish Larian were sticking to Divinity. Their style just doesn't mesh with D&D.
I disagree with you
I take Divinity: Dragon Commander over the Original Sin games any day. Way more interesting setting with the highly advanced civilization. And I found it does army battles way better than WotR.
I was trying to play DOS a couple of years back but “rock/paper/scissors” mechanic IRRITATED me to no end so I dropped it. That’s a shame, I’ve heard many good things about DOS2.
I was the same way, trust me when I say this: I dropped DOS1, picked up DOS2 a year or so later and it was night and day difference in terms of enjoyment from my end. I think DOS1 could've been dope if I played it coop but I didn't and it felt like the coop mechanics were being shoved in my face in SP. Didn't have the same issue with DOS2, give it a shot if you can.
@@Immor7alBG Thank you for your advice. I will definitely try the second one.
i really want to like original sin but...i cant.
most extreme nutshell version as why.
i used to be okay with tactical turn based RPG's, original sin made me hate them. i gave DoS a good try hoping it would click, 23 hours into a play through it just didn't. combat was just too slow and tedious.
i own original sin 2 but haven't played it, sounds it doesn't fix my issues in the first game.
im a RTwP person at the end of the day, but do like fast paced turn based. found shadowrun returns well paced combat wise.
I hope they ditch tb combat and use rt combat with tactical pause. Turn based combat is what turned me off from dos and dos2.
I disagree with you
I miss old FF turn based games. These new action based ones don’t feel nearly as good. I prefer a chess match then running around a screen for games like these
