I like that she gave the child an opportunity to understand that they would be way over their head to move forward, but also give them a taste of what the journey would be like. Rika’s answers are very “well that’s nice” but not in a dismissive or demoralizing way

That interview felt so much as a job interview. Seriously.
Her pauses actually made me nervous. It was great.
I talked to them with only 4 badges just to see what would happen, expecting them to turn me away like every other Pokémon game. I was freaking out when they forced me into the interview room. Laughed a bit when I found out I was just trolled into wasting my time.
This was exactly my reaction.
Imagine if Rika humored you and let you inside to compete against the E4 anyways. You call out your Fuecoco and it does next to no damage. The E4 member is like "Come on, you can do it. I think you almost left a mark. Your almost there, little buddy!". Just trolling your efforts. 😂
You can actually do that
Well not with the elite 4 but you can get directly to the last gym (the ice one) with a underleveled team
The fact you can now do this without action replay is hilarious. The game is just that open. I did it in my casual playthrough

As a gen 3 enjoyer this Honestly makes more sense than the entire region's topography making it impossible to travel to the elite four without particular pokemon moves to help you pass through certain areas of an entire country.

@@MazzoraGames I say you should be able imagine a person with 0 gym badges but has a team of lvl 100 Pokémon a clears it in 10 minutes (you hopefully know you can control lvl 100 Pokémon if you get them at lvl 20 or lower)

Their affection level also makes a difference. Caught a Rockruff a bit later on that was way overleveled later. Like a lot. He still listened to everything I said. I got him from a Raid. It's curious, honestly though, the mechanics for that in this game.
I remember in Red and Blue when after each badge I used to go to the Indigo Plateau to get farther up the mountain. I used to catch whatever Pokemon was next there lol
I loved doing that as a kid! Training on those high-level pokes near the top was great before the E4
I liked catching some Pokémon that become available as badges opened up more and more!

I was honestly pissed when I went to the Pokémon league and they asked “Why are you challenging the league?” and I picked the “Just for fun….I guess” option because it was the most accurate. Then I needed to do the interview again.
I thought about choosing that answer at first, but I had a feeling it would be considered "wrong" lol
As a person with dyslexia, this short just felt like an oddly intense session of two people staring at eachpther lol. I

Job Interviews in a nutshell...
I was kind of annoyed with the interview cause I was giving a genuine answer and they immediately kicked me out 😭
No cause I felt the same when I did this at the end of the route, she asked me my goals and I said “Not really” because I was more into Arven, and my friend told me “you failed” right after Rika kicked me out 😭
“It’s an open world game,” they said. “You can do whatever you want,” they said.
Open world gameq still have parts yoy need to unlock by completing various tasks. Plus youve always needed 8 badges to challenge the elite four. If that wasnt a rule theyd have thousands of 5 years olds with a level 4 lechonk challenging them

@@BobThePenguin. I see your point, but this game was touted as the "Breath of the Wild" of Pokemon games. In BotW, you could run straight up to Ganon and curbstomp him, or you could get crushed. All of those 5 year olds would still be naturally funneled in the direction of story progression by level barriers and mount upgrades.
I actually finished the whole gym path before doing the other ones
Getting to the psychic gym without any miraidon upgrades was HORRIBLE
They didn't do this with Calamity Ganon

I actually did this once when I had 6 badges, and got pretty much the same thing. I was so happy for like a minute, then my excitement faded right as I was told I didn’t pass
Didn't even know I could until I had all 8 badges and battled that one kid who said he was going to do the interview with 0 badges.
I didn't even know the Elite 4 was right next to Mesagoza.

If Rika really wanted to humour the player she could've said "Congratulations! You passed the interview!" then proceeded to completely disintegrate the player's level 10 team.

Hope future DLC would bring them back, i rather having breaks and no heals between battles
It literally has to bring them back, in one of the trailers for the Indigo Disk, they talk about being able to invite trainers from Paldea so that you can get to know them better, fight them, or trade with them. Rika WILL be there. I don't think they'd not let you fight the Elite four again in the DLC. There was a leak too that mentioned Rika being in it, though while I don't think it's true, Rika will come to Blueberry Academy regardless. I am extremely excited to meet her again...she literally took over my brain.

This is the first thing I did once I realized I could get here…then I got beat up by the trainer with a Krookodile

I tired this too. I also ran into ehtrainer outside that has a lvl 56 Krookadile and I was actually able to run away from it, I just had to pay him like 400 poke dollars
This is a little known fact that we can actually run away from trainer battles in this game!

Best way to know if you failed is when she says "one if the guys will tell you your results" as she doesnt say it when you passed, she just invites you through the doors so yeah, lol was obvious you failed when she said that.

I do love that they tried making the Elite 4 more terrifying, by beginning with a job interview.
Its like how jobs interview you even though you dont have the degree they are looking for. Id rather them just say no
I love the fact that they still added a fun scenario when you don't meet the most obvious requirement instead of someone standing infront of a door and saying no.

I went there aft 8 Badges but got kicked out of Area Zero
So when my wife and I were first playing through the game, we didn’t know you could just walk up to the elite 4 building, but we did find the funny infinite wall scaling with jumps thing you could do with Korai/Mirai, so for a lark we used that to get up to the league building. Lemme tell you, we were spooked when Rika’s first question was “so how did you get here today”. Then we had a picnic outside after we got over that and obviously got rejected for not having all 3 badges
I did this myself so I can confirm that this is true to save the time of anyone who thinks this is fake
Kinda makes sense lore wise that the league would give kids a chance to experience the interviews

It gets more funnier, because if you pass the interview, Rika mentions you're the first person in a long time to pass the test first time (since Nemona), meaning she either doesn't remember this interview, or it didn't count.
According to one of my friends, if you fail your first time during the actual interview (he mismatched the gym leader and the town) she mentions how you failed it later when you pass. Something along the lines of, "I don't know why you messed up the first time, but you're good now fam."
Don't know if that applies to attempting the assessment before having all badges, but I think it's funny that she'll call you out for fucking up the first time instead of praising you.
My brain was telling me it won't work and I said aloud 'Don't tell me it works'
I miss the intimidating gates and security guards that told you you can’t pass unless you have said badge. The whole thing screamed survival and trying to be worthy to enter.
Through this video, I've learnt that Wolfe is very good at vgc battles...and bad at pretty much everything else to do with pokemon😂. He kept wandering into the wrong locations, kept making poor guesses about the lore, and most importantly, either forgot or refused to balance his team's type combo, which led to him getting bodied by ground type pokemon or pokemon with ground type coverage over and over, and he kept trying to find ways to compensate for the weakness and sacrifice pokemon, when all he had to do was add a glying type to the team.
That is exactly what I did, I didn’t even know what that building was, I just walked into it first thing after the treasure huntbegan 😂
