    This is part two in our series where we go through a complete engine teardown and rebuild on this 2005 Honda CRF450R. The second part of this process starts with the reassembly of the top end, which is detailed here in this video. The steps shown here will be very similar for 2002-2008 Honda CRF450's. Stay tuned for this series to see the complete engine disassembly and rebuild process.

The guy I'm buying my bike from says that is lacks compression. Is there anything I should expect to have to fix besides the top end? Even if I spend 1000 on the bike I'll be within the budget for the price I got the bike for

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  Před 4 lety

      Do the compression test, check your valves, and you might as well to a cam chain since they're cheap and easy to change out. I'm sure the bike has a lot of hours on it so make sure to really check the cylinder wall for damage. New spark plug.

    Not sure if anyone here can help but i got a cylinder works 100mm over bore kit for a 2008 crf450r and the gaskets i got are identical to the stock gaskets the base i would understand although it doesn't want to slip over the outside of the new cylinder without bending and rolling the edges but the top literally hangs inside of the cylinder and would get hit by the piston if i were to install it. I think they sent me a stock kit instead of an overbored version. Anybody know what size gasket it would need to be? I assume 101 or 102 mm if the cylinder bore is 100.

    my service manual mentions nothing about timing this timing mark (12:20) kinda makes sense why my compression timing wasnt right when i did everything else the way it instructs, it does mention timing from the right sight of the crank case while the engine is in tdc, but my cam chain must be out of sync with the marking? or if the right side is in line will the left side be too pls help xDD. Second edit maybe i put my cam gear in 180 degrees backwards is that possible?

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  Před rokem

      czcams.com/video/mMWLygPpvNQ/video.html We covered the marks better in part one, so check that out. You can also use a long screwdriver down the spark plug hole to verify TDC, since it can be kind of hard to see when the timing marks are perfectly lined up. The cam sprocket will line up the same either way, just make sure the marks are facing out like in the video. -Charles

    wouldnt you need new valves after machining the head?

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  Před 3 lety +1

      It all depends on the condition of the valves, if they are cupped, pitted, bent or have any other wear or damage, then yes. You would want to have the new valves before machining the head because they need to match up to the seats when you're done. If the valves are like new, then all I'd worry about is the contact pattern. We just lightly used the cutters on our seats to clean them up and make sure the contact pattern was correct. If there was serious damage to the seats you would probably need to replace the valves as well. -Charles
