    Thank you so much! I have been trying to understand the dang "Y-Wing" forever. I have no problem solving puzzles until I get to this point. I could never quite figure out which blocks were eligible for elimination. The "roof" concept of the trapezius cleared it up beautifully. This is singularly the best and simplest explanation I've gotten. Thank you so much for your videos!

    Before I viewed Sudoku Guy, I never tried doing the daily puzzles in my newspaper. Now, I watch for them, clip them and print 4 to a page so that the answers follow the previous puzzle. I am sure to date them to keep them in order. This way, I can work the puzzles as I find time, and I have the answers if I am not sure. Sudoku Guy got me started doing the puzzles. I never thought I could do them, and I am getting better and better, trying more advanced lessons, and frequently repeating them. Sudoku Guy, you proved that a person can do Sudoku, even if
    challenged, like me.

    Does the skyscraper technique only work if the 'rooftops' are of similar height?

    • @SudokuGuy
      @SudokuGuy  Před 8 lety

    • @kimboslice1356
      @kimboslice1356 Před 8 lety

      Ah ok. I think my sky scrapers have been too close to each other (i.e. only takes up 3 blocks) or too small (i.e. one 'tower' takes up 3 squares in one block) so the technique hasn't been working for me. I'll keep practicing. PS: Well done and thanks for such great vids. Your pace is perfect and explanations are the best on CZcams.

    • @koenth2359
      @koenth2359 Před 6 lety +1

      The rows of the roof have to be different rows within the same 'tier'. A tier is a bundle of three adjacent rows, that together cover 3 blocks, so row 1,2,3 or row 4,5,6 or row 7,8,9 form tiers.
      Same idea for columns.

    Great technique. However, is "skyscraper" really needed to solve the particular puzzle used in lesson 22? I think not because in row 8, second from the bottom, there is only one "1" therefore the 1 must go in that cell, squarely in the middle of the lower right hand corner block. Everything flows readily from that point. Just curious.

      @SudokuGuy  Před 3 lety

      Thank you David for your comment. Yes your discovery is excellent, however i wanted to sow the skyscraper pattern as it becomes very important when solving very difficult puzzles, and sometimes the skyscraper using X chains will be the breakthough to get to the end of the puzzle. Hi sudoku guy
    Thanks for your tutorials, however your skyscraper in this video is wrong. If try to complete the sudoku with your skyscraper result you actually cannot get the puzzle out. You presumed wrongly there were no other optional "4" in the right hand side wall but there was one more "4" (2,3, 4) that your student had not inputted. This meant that your resulting "6" was wrong and is actually a "2", and your "4" on the left hand wall top is actually a "6." This is not to say that your explanation was not helpful, but just that your student had not set up all the possibilities in the first place correctly; which is a worthwhile warning to others attempting this technique.

      Mark can you explain to me what you mean by the mistakes. Do you want to explain to me 2,3 and 4 that the student did not enter? how can you be so sure that the 6 is wrong and there should be 2

    Well, you've given rules, but you haven't explained WHY those rules apply.
