Saw them blow the roof off Cobo Arena Detroit in the early seventies. Best party band concert ever.
Saw them in Santa Monica during the same time frame. The energy was over the top and Peter Wolfe was amazing.
Only concert I ever camped out for tickets at Pine Knob. What a show!!
I saw so many concerts at cobo hall. Staple of Detroit in the 70's for me
So envious. I saw them in 1982.
yes sir i was there when they recorded this album at Cobo Hall
Premier party band of the seventies IMO. Boston boys bringing the northern energy. RIP J. Geils (guitar player & namesake)
Summer only lasts a few months up north...they had a whole year of partying to do and only 4 good months to do it in.
J Geils was a awesome Live ,one of the most upbeat concerts I've been too.
CHOD IT'S PRONOUNCED J GUY LLLLS
dont sleep on that harmonica playing
Saw them at the Boston Garden several times. And yes, when J. Geils was in the house it was definitely a party.
Everyone dancing and jumping up and down. What a show!
I like it I like it jiggle's all of it buttock give it to me come on now brother they do it all and that's one song all right all right how are you
The J Geils Band is so brilliant! It's criminal nobody talks about them these days.
We used to party in the 70s, and J Geils Band would be playing a lot. Lead singer "Peter Wolf" (not his real name) was a radio DJ, and instead of spinning records, he decided to give performing Rock/ Funk music a try. It worked out pretty well. Great Party music. His harmonica player was called "Magic Dick." Good stuff.
I've been going to concerts since 1971, no doubt the most energy for a band was these guys, but for a single performer, Mick Jaeger, hands down, whether In his prime or at 60, when I saw him he ran miles from one end of that massive stage to another, all night long, having a running conversation with the fans between songs and making sure everyone, even in the not so cheap seats, knew they appreciated the house that night. Man, that is what is best about rock, being one with the music and a live entertainer, nothing like it. Enjoy and rock on!
This is a cover of a soul classic released in 1967 by The Showstoppers, a Philadelphia group led by 2 of Solomon Burke's younger brothers. You should listen to the original when you get a chance. As Peter Wolf, the lead singer of J. Geils would say, "It's a gas!"
Those guys gave their all every time we saw them, amazing live energy. Try Serves You Right to Suffer, another killer track from one of Boston's best. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
It's "Guy-lz"... rhymes with Miles with a hard "G". :) Love these guys from my home of Boston. Great selection of vintage J. Geils Band. Next up, "Whammer Jammer" live.
I saw them at TD Garden (gahdin) to a fellow Bostonian in 2014 i think, b4 J died, first time I'd seen them in decades they opened for Bob Seger and they hadn't lost a step musically Magic Dick was Spot on with Whammer Jammer.
This whole album is just Killer.
The ultimate party band back in the day. This song comes from there album Bloodshot.. My opinion there greatest album
The J. Geils Band was an American rock band formed in 1967. The band played R&B influenced blues rock during the 1970's but achieved commercial success in the early 1980's. They had a lot of great songs such as "Centerfold", "First I Look At The Purse", "Lookin' For A Love", "Give It To Me", "Must Of Got Lost", "Come Back", "Love Stinks", "Flamethrower", "Freeze-Frame" etc.
Great band
I saw them live 3times
I met and talked to Peter wolf the lead singer-and Magic Dick who plays the lickin stick
Rhythms with Miles. This is definitely a party song and there was a lot of house parties back then. They were more blues rock and had a cult-like following, then they were perceived as “sold out,” like a few groups back then that was considered sacrilege to their fans, went commercialized (pop songs like Freeze Frame and Centerfold).
Yeah, Geils does rhyme with miles. Real easy.
Around 1977-78 they changed record companies the group left Atlantic Records and signed to EMI America , And yes, went commercial.
Live versions of Homework and First I Look At the Purse.
The whole Live Full House album is awesome!
@@screwedagain1 there is live concert footage from 1977 I think, Winterland Ballroom. Worth watching. Peter at his best.
My hometown band....they are awesome.......j guy-els
This song was in the Adam Sandler movie, Grown Ups 2. Played during the fight scene. I had to look it up... I knew I'd heard it in an Adam Sandler movie, somewhere! Honestly, I think that's the only place I've ever heard it,
I think that what you are referring to as an "organ" is actually a harmonica. The harmonica player is none other than "Magic Dick".
Great reaction!! Glad it was a LIVE reaction. Kick ass band
The E is silent in the last name pronounce it as Giles. Same energy live and rocked it.
From this same album, Musta Got Lost, amazing performance and has a great extended intro (maybe a little politically incorrect).
There is an equally great song on the same album, “Give it to me”.
Oh yeah, saw them at Pine Knob, Holly MI 1982. Was upset that we left our weed at home. Turns out, we didn’t need it for them.
Geils is pronounced with a hard G and long i sound.
I saw them in the late 70s in the old IMA auditorium in Flint Michigan. They rocked that place to the ground. Also, when they spotted someone in the crowd trying to take photos, they dragged them up on stage and pose for them while still playing whatever song that they were performing. I have never seen or heard of another band doing that! It was also amazing that the lead singer, Peter Wolf, didn't break his mic stand as he would rock his whole body off of the stage floor all through the show! They were thee high energy party band of all party bands.
The best Party Band. Detroit is their 2nd home
One of the highest energy bands you could ever see. I've seen them 4 times, always great!
This was such a party song when I was in college.
Cover of The Showstopper’s song from 1968. J.Geils Band singer was a radio DJ in the 60’s and gave them a new life.
I saw them in CT. 79 or 80 gr8 show
Great choice
I saw J. Geils with Prince, George Thorogood and The Rolling Stones LA Coliseum early 80"s
Saw them twice this and the full house albums are both fire
I had this album. It was a double album, written on the back cover was the statement "Made Loud To Play Loud" .....So I obeyed, every time 😊😊
Saw them in Woodstock. Could not get in the venue so we stood out on the village street and heard the whole durn thang clear! Street party! Thanks!
Like the second syllable in 'beguile.'
I was in the audience...Nov 19th, 1975 at Detroit's legendary Cobo Hall for part of that Double Live Album recording.
It's pronounced J. [Guy-els] Geils with a hard G, named after the Guitar player. The singer is the one and only Peter Wolf.
Talk about a party jam band, these guys are one of the best ever. 🕺🕺
Thank you for reacting to early J. Geils. You reacted to "Musta Got Lost" awhile back as well. Your channel is so welcoming to requests that are often ignored by others. You actually reacted to Alice Cooper's "Blue Turk". You are much appreciated. Of course I'm your UFO reaction guru fan! Lol.
You must hurry to be first! J Geils "Back to get ya".
Look up Peter Wolf’s influences and please watch a live performance of his. You’re not too far off.
Pronounced: Hard G-iles. Peter Wolf landed in Beantown, became a late-night DJ, and eventually this band came together. So under-appreciated; this recording doesn't do them justice. (Live! Full House is a better live album by them) Still one of my favorite live acts, what, with Wolf's on- stage banter and footwork a la James Brown. So many, many more great choices other than "Centerfold".
Blow Your Face Out is totally killer !
Altogether better than Full House, but that one is great as well.
People aren't joking regarding how good they were live. I grew up in the 70s and really listened to harder stuff, but I'd say they were probably the best live show I saw back in the day. Just song after song of good music and energy flowing off stage.
Jay Guy Ils band
Hard 'g' as in guy-elz
My first album was Bloodshot when it was released, a cool *note
Some were special edition, the vinyl was printed in red to match the album cover.
The name pronunciation sounds like this
J. Guy-ALLZ. Band.
Saw these guys back in Detroit. They were awesome
In HIGH SCHOOL up Here in Maine they played Every New Years in Portland@the ol 4C's!!Rent a Bus&Do the 2hr Cruise Down!!Thing Be Jammed & Lil Lady No ElvisJust Shake That Crazy Houseparty Jam!!77-81.
Seen them a lot maybe like seven times they were awesome!!
Thank you !!!
Check out their live album, Full House
There should be a R&R Hall of Fame category just for Live Stage Energy! J. Geils Band would be there, as would the Stones, Bruce Springsteen, AC/DC, probably Kiss even though I'm not a fan, The Who, Tower of Power, James Brown, Sly & the Family Stone...
miles, styles, trials, piles, smiles, dials, tiles, files, J. Geils✌😀
Smiles, aisles, Geils. Magic Dick, the harmonica player, can mimic brass parts. I think you are hearing the organ bit it is harmonica
I saw them in Oakland, with George thoroghgood and the destroyers, the kinks and oh yea, the rolling sones
Okay I need a break from my anxiety about today’s election. I’m an older ex-hippie who is now almost (not quite) a full on Conservative
Anybody, regardless of political affiliation, can jam to this music.
Listen to their Hard Driving Man
Those bad boys from Boston the funkiest band in the land the incomparable J. Geils Band
What you're hearing as guitar is actually the Harp. As played by Magic Dick.
Boston... bringing it
One of our favorite go to cassette tapes when out cruzin’. Before cd’s but better than 8 track. This entire album is fire imo.
Chod… you should try Chimes off thid LP
Hi Love your channel get a listen to The Showstoppers version from 1967 from Philly still gets played on the Northern Soul scene here in UK
You might remember the name if you think "J. Giles" with the "G" as in "Gorilla." Just a thought. Love your analysis comparing them to Little Richard. Both have a lot of energy in their performances.
J Geils (Pronounced Guy'ells) is Best listened to with a keg of beer & dropping some Micro Dot
Oh yeah oh yeah she's so pretty yes
pronounced giles hard G like in the word Go and you need to hear Whammer jammer its a harmonica solo cause what you were hearing with the guitar was in fact Magic Dick and his Harmonica.
There is an organ in the song but the part I think you are referring to is a harmonica.
This is song they started the show with
czcams.com/video/ASF5CpqP6HY/video.html
The J Geils Band
(Whammer Jammer)
Smokin hot harmonica!!!

J. Guy'ells pronounced! Do"First I look at the Purse!"
Great band great pick
Rock an Roll Hall Of Fame a joke without J Geils Band.
It's a J Geils party 🥳🎉 rock out.
Love JGeils all rock born from R&B old, nope Elvis moved not fast enough for this killer song
You should listen to the originals by the band called The Showstoppers
Have you ever heard Smokey Robinson and the miracles,
Going to a Go-Go?
Saw them open for The Rolling Stones at LA Memorial Coliseum in 2981 along with George Thorogood (Prince opened and was booed off the stage!). Peter Wolf is a phenomenal lead man and the whole band just kicked ass 🤘🤘
Sorry: 1981…
Guy-els
Check out Hard driving Man Live version from full house
Pronounced with a hard G (God) and like miles. Geils (like giles) the best party band ever!
Dude.....its J. Guy-ells
Say it out loud..... Guy-ells
J. GIELS
Geils like files
And of course, Magic Dick on harmonica, Peter Wolf the great front man
Same album… Detroit Break Down !
Detroit is J.Geil's second home . FACT
Pronounced like guy (guyles). Will you please react to Freedom Rider & Glad by Traffic? You will love these two songs
J GIles (like Miles)
Jay Guy'ells
J Giles give it to me that's the song
Listen to
Flamethrower
The songs could give it to me J Giles
The sound is unmistakable Detroit Rock and Roll. Heavily influenced by Motown. Very similar to what you would find with rare earth or Spencer Davis Group, Bob Seger and many others. Unmistakable Detroit Rock and Roll.
Sorry but they are from Boston area not Detroit!
@@donbelenger817
What he said is absolutely correct.
Detroit was their second home, and they loved playing there most, and he was absolutely correct stating the Motown influence.
Detroit Breakdown !
You totally missed the harmonica. Magic Dick on harp is the greatest ever.
Check out “Whammer Jammer”
Like miles. Only Geils.
It was a harmonica not an organ lol
