The writer/director wanted to make a parody on early 2000s teen movie that had lesbians as the leads. I loved it because while it showcased nearly everything wrong with how some of those type movies showcased romance, bullying, and sexuality, Bottoms used those elements to comedic effect in a fresh way. What an insanely funny retrospective parody cranked up to 11! That spiral at the beginning really had me in tears laughing in the theater when I saw it last year 😂. “Can you come and visit us on Sunday? Can you please come and visit us on Sunday?” 🤣
🤣🤣😂😂
Sapphic women's general consensus about this film: we freaking adoooored it and now consider it an iconic lesbian movie
I dont think we've had many comedic lesbian movies like that since "But I'm a Cheerlead" and that was in 1999
Loved "but I'm a cheerleader" it was very ahead of its time
One of my fav comedies, and it's super cute too.
That was a great funny parody too!!! Love it!! ❤
I absolutely looooved this movie✨💖💖💖
The “who’s been raped/ grey area” thing is so real. Show me a woman who has not be violated in often numerous ways by straight boys and men.
As a lesbian, I found this film unironically relatable cuz I too would start a fight club for Isabel, and yes that awkward dialogue in the beginning was definitely flirting lmao
We finally got the lesbian teen comedy we’ve been wanting
We are ready to watch it all over again!
Are u reacting to interview of a vampire any more @@AStoryWorthTelling
A group of people at my college hosted an underground midnight screening and invited all the lesbians/queer women they knew, and it was the best movie-viewing experience of my life. We were all crying laughing, surrounded by only queer people, singing along to all of the background music, and yelling at the screen. Easily my favorite movie now
Wait stop that seems so amazing 🥹
This movie requires multiple rewatches to catch all the jokes in the background.
Oh we are already thinking about a rewatch!? Haha
For example, did you notice the guy in the cage in the classroom in the background of one of the earlier scenes? That’s when I knew this movie would be unhinged!
Calling Jeff "straight" is a stretch and a half.
Jeff, Tim is the person who cares about you the most and would do anything for you. Just saying.
@@burntcoppery exactly! I mean, Tim is right there...
i am a lesbian and i love this movie !! most movies about lesbians just feel like watching two hyperfeminine straight girls kiss but pj and josie feel like actual lesbians you could know irl (besides the obviously unrealistic parts lol) and i appreciate that so much
The fact that they have Marshawn “Beast Mode” Lynch (elite former running back for the Seattle Seahawks) playing their teacher/mentor is hilarious. He was great in this role!
Right! Him being in the movie is so out of left field but absolutely brilliant, and apparently he improvised a ton of his lines as well. I love how he took the role to honor his queer sister.
@@bsbjg24 I didn’t know that…love it even more now ☺️
I love how Josh's learned about Alex's thirst for violence lol
In response to your question at 2:52 !
The world Lesbian comes from the island of Lesbos where Sappho (a very gay woman and poet from ancient greece) is from!
A little sapphic lore for you :)
Anyways love your content! Always makes me smile!
Have a wonderful day
I feel like this whole film was an inside joke for us queer women (hopefully in a satirical way)!😂😂😂😂
Nicholas Galitzine’s Face Journeys >>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Galitzine's range is amazing, he can play anything!!!
I mean, the film is brutal but it feels very accurate to an actual school environment. I could relate to the unhinged nature of the school. Especially the older male faculty drooling over sports.
I love how Alex was so into the fight between Hazel and the boxer 🤣
This is such a brilliant film. I loved the absurdity, all the unapologetic gayness, and the over-the-top ending. I don't know how the sword got there, but I'm glad it did. There is something very lovely about seeing badass ladies in fight mode. When I watched this film, I expected a standard highschool comedy, but I was mindblown by the end by how twisted and funny Bottoms is. I feel sapphic films are so serious, so often, but we've been blessed with some great comedies lately. Speaking of which, you should react to Aging out, a queer short film by Breanne Williamson. It's free to watch on her youtube channel.
The bulldog Viking mascot walked by and dropped it I believe 😂
the f slur is usually directed towards gay men, but other queer people are sometimes on the receiving end of it too
AYO Edibiri is just so GOOD! 👏🏽
"Is it healthy to have your love language as violence?"
Buddy, as long as you have an agreed upon safe word, you can go nuts with it.
guys!!! there's bloopers at the end!!!!
as a women who partakes in liking women i adore this movie, they also mention the college i go to as they named notoriously gay schools in america through out the movie. i also love what you said about isabel and her not struggling with the fact that she can like women an men (as a girly who likes both it was nice to see)
One of my favourite lines was about how PJ’s mom runs a business and shouting is effective 😂
I watched this movie on the last day of the year because I knew it would simply the best thing to end the year on. Best day ever!
It's brilliant, absolutely crazy, but brilliant haha
Ha I got friends to watch this for a low key new years gathering and they liked it!
@@redsands1001 That’s awesome
14:27 it’s really interesting to see how guys react to this scene as opposed to how girls do. Guys are like oh my god trigger warning whoa and us women are like lol yeah it do be like that
I loved how the clichéd football 🏉 game at the end was twisted & distorted where all the girls KILLED all the enemy footballers… and left the small-town American 🇺🇸 audience gobsmacked!! 🤣
Listen!! This movie's obviously a sarcastic parody, but there is something about growing up in an over-policed, war profitering empire like the US, that really inspires truly choatic levels of violence within US high schools, both the hilarious, and the really scary and dark and sometimes life-threatening. 😅You can definitely even make an argument that american football itself is alagory for war. The movie is definitely playing off of that aspect of US culture, as well as media.
Also maybe an american thing, but in my experience, a lot of people, especially kids, don't really know lesbian slurs. They only know 🚬 so that's what they use. I've been called been a 🚬, though that was as an adult and I was dressed very masc. 🤷
love your reactions by the way!!
❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤
14:15 This part killed me. First taking me totally off guard with the intro lol
But then realizing a common female bonding milestone is sharing your experiences from the ‘annoying to scary’ scale
It is really a pleasure to see young actors playing so beautifully.
The movie has an interesting story and it is a different comedy than the comedy movies I watched before.
Nicholas Galitzine smashed it!! Like always ofcours!
I like that he chooses a different role every time and he nails it!
The two main actresses were fantastic!
Definitely not a single line is meant to be taken seriously in this film. Its also heavily satirizing american schools in the most hilarious way
This reaction to the over the top nature of this film is spot on but then the Britishness on top of that is so entertaining, layers. Loved watching Alex's American aggression come out to match the intensity of the movie at times. This is one of those films that can be rewatched over and over as is this video!
I still chuckle thinking about “But I’m a Diner”.
Josh: "How did she get a bomb so fast?!". Sis forgot that it's set in America. LOL.
It’s a great teen comedy pastiche parody my generation needs ❤
loved this reaction so much theway yall were so shocked at every scene HFGFHHDHDGFH this movie really is the silliest movie in the world but i love every single minute of it LETS GO LESBIANS (and nicholas galitzine being a regular on this channel even as a straight character (questionable) i love that for him lmao)
as a woman that's into woman= I NEED HAZEL IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE
Genuinely one of the best films ive ever seen lmao
I am a simple lesbian. I see one of my favorite react channels has a video with Lesbians in the title, I click. It’s not often I see sapphic main characters in shows and movies (the last time I saw more than one lesbian as the main characters was when I watched the L Word and that show was a doozy)
Edit: this movie was also a doozy but it was really good 😂
As a bisexual woman, I definitely related to this film XD I also related to PJ with the straight thing. Every single girl I've liked has ended up being straight except for 1. My radar is fantastic except for when it comes to a majority of the people I like apparently.
Also, I instantly had a crush on Hazel watching this. Lastly, I rewatched it immediately after my initial viewing of this film. I'm behind when it comes to comedy films. It was the main type of film I wasn't allowed to watch growing up. Because of the inappropriate jokes in a majority of them. But of the ones I have seen now, this is my favorite!
9:51 When one of the members of a group of young men we passed on our way home at night approached my very flamboyant (and smart-arse) friend with rather aggressive demeanour and the question: "Ey! Are you a (homophobic slur)?", my friend gave a wide grin and said: "Yeah! I also have AIDS as well as bleeding gums, so keep your distance!". The mad thing is, it actually worked, and we got home unmolested!
I watched this movie at least 5 times...and counting.🤣🤣🤣 I really enjoyed PJ, Josie and Jeff's characters in this.💯
I loved your reaction too. ❤
Alex being speechless at 32:35 made me laugh quite a bit.🤣
This film is so funny and unapologetic I loved it. I hope we get more like it!
this reaction was so fun!!😂 I really love this movie so much it's so sarcastic and too close to cross the line but never did which makes it wvwn more beautiful 😂😭
This movie didn’t stay in theaters very long here in NY but I was able to see twice on the big screen. I’ve seen it several times since streaming too.
It was So much fun watching along with Alex and Josh. Lots of laughs.
Thanks Guys!
This is an instant classic. Freaking love it .
we lesbians when we attempt to flirt we are a mess like it's a struggle lol
Please tell me y’all saw the mascot running around in the background! I can just picture your faces 😂
Yass Avril Lavigne complicated
The best music in this film!
2:53 i dont know if anyone answered this yet but i think some people would use "gay" instead of "lesbian" for themselves either because it's a broader term or maybe they dont feel like they inhabit (is that a word?) the lesbian term 100%. *OR* some people dont like how the term lesbian has been heavily sexualized. (for example me, i use "lesbian" for myself in english but in my language, since i've only ever seen the (translation of the) word in relation to p*rn stuff, or said as an insult, it still feels a bit weird. it feels harsh(?) in a way. so i'd just say "i like girls". but i'm getting used to the term lesbian in my language too!)
this is just my interpretation though, there might be other reasons for it:)
a) grey area YES
b) lotta queer women into martial arts, it's very satisfying to get to punch something
c) I laughed so hard sometimes during this and its over the top parody stuff I nearly had a coughing fit
Similar to “tickling the pearl” - “plant the tulip”, “polish the staff”, “soothe the serpent”, “whisper through the keyhole”
Here’s hoping y’all will fulfill my wish and watch Good Omens. Y’all are really sleeping on a gem of a show! Lol
unfortunately yes, that is in fact flirting. we're hopeless.
the word lesbian exists because of sappho. she was a famous poet who wrote about women and was from the island of lesbos, and the word lesbian was created after her.
I relate to Josie and PJ’s attempts at flirting because I’ve been there lol
Jeff is iconic ❤❤❤
because let me introduce the word "achillean" (idk the actual spelling) which is a way to refer to homosexual men, like we use "sapphic" and "lesbian" for women (both sapphic and achillean are from greek words)
7:59 this is late and somebody else might've answered already, but its called beaver cuz they eat "wood", funnily enough, not in this context haha.
"Is this how lesbians flirt?" 💀
As a women who likes women.. absolutely loved this movie. So fun :D
The sound editing on this video is great! I was so worried after the live video for Christmas that the audio troubles would continue. It is adorable that neither of the boys recognized the actor playing the teacher advisor. But, love that Josh clocked the violent American approach to assault by fruit cocktail. (You two should watch those Japanese anime where all of the kids are in murder gangs but the teachers are all just absent and checked out.) Didn't you know that you can buy all you to build a b*mb at any corner supply shop in the US?
I haven’t laughed this hard at a movie in a long time, it’s great!
Fun fact: Marshawn Lynch went for this movie in support of his lesbian sister. He said he regrets how he handled it back when they were teenagers and he sees this as a way to "right his wrongs."
I JUST watched this a couple days ago and was looking to see if all my favorite reactors reacted to it
alex extremely relatable at the end LMFAOOOO
I loved that ending it was hilarious 🤣
AYO Edibiri loves ‘A Cinderella Story’ (a masterpiece) and I saw traces of it along with ‘Mean Girls’.
this was such a good satire movie... also Hazel? that's it. just hazel.
I'd love to see you review some films with other people especially when the movies main characters are lesbians, trans, or asexual. It could really add something!
omg yes i was waiting, when you would react to this film😍 Love you guys.
LOLOL too funny - please feature more content about queer women and continue your education! This was great!
Watched the video for Bottoms. Subscribed for the very funny and attractive reactors.
You lot are literally PJ and Josie 😂 😂
You guys have to watch Saltburn 🙏
Y'all got all the way to the second meeting of the club before you realized they started it to pick up girls, when PJ literally says that's why they're starting it in the scene where they talk about starting it?
And it took you quite a bit into the movie to realize it was a parody??
And you got confused about it being "pro feminist" but them saying they hate the female teachers, when the point of that scene is they're clearly just trying to get the teacher to agree to sponsor the club and not show up and are just saying things they think will work on him???
IDK if y'all were just not paying enough attention to those parts of if you're as bad at detecting sarcasm as hazel is 😂. Good reaction overall though!
Alex is scaring us in this video lol
Mwauauhahahaha 😐
@@AStoryWorthTelling 😂😇
As a queer woman, I just love this movie ✨
YOU GUYS NEED TO WATCH BODIES BODIES BODIES ITS SOOOO FUNNY
The flirting part is unfortunately not too far off 😔 there’s even a term “useless lesbians” it’s when two women who clearly like each other and have a connection but are very awkward and are bad at flirting or can’t tell she is being flirting with.
I suggest the indie movie MARIO from 2018❤love your reactions
Yaaaaaas!! I cannot wait!!💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽❤❤❤
Niether can we! 😂
watch Deadloch You will learn a lot about lesbians
you guys should really react to the movie GBF it’s a lot like this movie with its nonstop unserious comedy and i think you guys would really like it
it has Natasha Lyonne in it!
2:58 This has been an argument for a while, I’m surprised you weren’t aware. It’s one of the reasons people have also wanted to reclaim the word queer, as it doesn’t assume that the male word is universal and the female word is specific. Like “man” used to just refer to human or “mankind”, women were either implicitly included or not considered. Similarly, many languages have the “neutral” assumptions for professional roles being male implying the inclusion of women, but not the opposite. Using “gay” as an umbrella term for everyone is a continuation of that linguistic patriarchal legacy. I myself unfortunately have to admit that gay is the term I am most comfortable with, even though I am aware of the socio-linguistic patriarchal implications, and while I don’t have the experience of negative connotations with the word queer, it’s not a term I grew up with the way I did with the term Bi or gay. Interestingly, in my personal situation, only the term lesbian was use in a derogatory way - and I certainly don’t feel comfortable using it myself, while I get really happy that others use it. But I’m glad that this is slowly fizzling out, that there are more options and I guess it shows how being aware of something doesn’t necessarily inform how one feels about it at the core.
I agree on the "us turning against each other bc of external things" but lets not act like this would've never happened if their intentions were to help each other rather than get laid. lol. So to further the discussion we cant always blame others for hurting us when our wrongs give them the lay up (sports reference i know lol) to break us. Thats not to say its right or fair that we have to be perfect so they cant hurt us but two rights can be true. Bad will always help other bad happen. So if they just went with the fact of solidarity rather than getting laid, then their group would be fine but them lying about their past would be the tipping point, not their intentions of making the group that helped everyone come together. But all this comes together anyways at the end of the movie but you get the point!
Afaik lesbians started calling themselves that bc sapphos was from the island of lesbos. So sapphic and lesbians. Guess we like a poet ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
yayy!!! cant wait 🤭🤭
Whoop whoop!
Y’all should react to the American version of “Queer As Folk”!
id love to see them watch an episode of the L word lmaooo
Esse filme é maravilhoso
its true, I fought an army of 300 men to impress my highschool girlfriend.
lmaoo i love y'all
I think vulva has the nickname beaver... Because if you grow your pubic hair out... It's "furry". Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's why. The term is actually kind of decreased in use now that removing or trimming pubic hair is significantly more common than it was a couple decades ago.... At least I have zero friends who use the slang so I'm kind of just assuming that it's not really used anymore as my friends NEVER use it... not even ironically.
3:38 Nooope...at least not all. We have a whole spectrum and those two are just at the worst side of it lol🤣🤣
i love that your Idea ofan Icon that you show up for on time is "STEPS", Not Gaga,Not Madonna, Noteven The Spice Girls....But STEPS!!!! Have you ever watched "Please Like me"
czcams.com/video/f_C-qb5eJEM/video.html
DRUCK S3 reaction when? 🥺👉🏻👈🏻
PLEASEEE watch Saltburn!!! I can't wait to see your faces lol
12:38 Any cinéphile will tell you that ‘Miss Congeniality’ taught us self-defence or should I say, taught us to SING?
standing in a self-defence class at a convention. Male Teacher: 'who knows any basic stuff?'
me: '...I know SING?'
male teacher: 'uh?'
female half of the class as one: 'Solar plexus, instep, nose and groin!'
i think the main reason why the f slur may seem like its more of a slur towards gay men is because its USED more towards them since its usually gross straight men who are using it most of the time and maybe they don't necessarily use it towards lesbian women that often because they're too busy fetishising or because its more of a norm for women to be straight and hold hands, etc then men are so there is more opportunity? I don't actually know that's just my view, I have definitely heard it used towards both genders though
its a beaver because it's hairy and it munches on wood 🤣
