These Rescue traps are a LIFESAVER! We used six of them last year, our first year to give them a try. We caught hundreds of thousands of them! We emptied the traps twice daily and put the beetles in gallon zip bags IN THE FREEZER. Now, when the temperatures are in the 90s, I take out a bag of frozen Japanese beetles and the chickens get frozen bug treats! They LOVE it! I may try to make a solar dehydrator this year so the chickens can also have crunchy treats in the winter. Hmm... Thanks, guys. We love you all so much. Yes, the traps were my biggest mistake. It drew the beetles in from miles around and they stayed. I will never use another trap again. I had placed them a distance away from my flowers from the gardens but they laid eggs and multiplied over and over. They hit my place in Tn. and do not leave until frost. They eat everything they can from
I made a "chute" out of a garbage bag and put it into a 5 gallon bucket with a hole in the top (bucket was from 5 gallons of paint). Unzipped the beetle trap, duct taped the open part of the garbage bag, cut off the bottom and stuffed it into the bucket hole. That way I didn't have to empty it every day. We don't have chickens but the fish sure love them! ;)
Keep the beetle traps at least 25 feet away from your garden and you can fill up a 5 gallon bucket with them just continued to empty the bags and then save them for your chickens they love them.
I saw a guy's video where he put a big pan of water under the trap. He said he drowned more than he caught in the trap. I guess the beetles don't fly very skillfully.
They don't fly skillfully at all! They regularly fly into walls and fall over on their backs like a turtle. I feed them to my pitcher plant when I find them incapacitated.
Great video, thanks for sharing. We live in a HOA and just don't have enough space in between property's to hang any traps without starting a feud with the neighbors. I have to pick them by hand and drop them in a bucket of very hot water. Kills them instantly and I don't need to worry about escapees
We bought these this year because we’re in northern Arkansas and having trouble with them. They really do work well! We’re emptying ours multiple times a day. Several up on our property. Just make sure Velcro is really closed well after emptying. Thanks for the idea of giving them to the chickens.

The Diana break-barrel with a scope is good for groundhogs, but I'm not a good enough shot to hit a beetle from the attic window. I'm working on it, but it's a learning curve.
I'm with you on that. The last part was pretty gross, but cool that y'all were able to catch that many beetles. I'll check to see if y'all did a 2018 follow up video on if the 2017 traps helped the 2018 crops or if you needed more 2018 traps. Awesome video. Great suggestions! Thank you.
I duct tape a hollow tube to the bottom of my traps and the beetles fall directly into a bucket of water where the chickens eagerly await these tasty snacks !!😜
I don't think we have Japanese beetles here (E. Wa) however there was an unidentified beetle eating my green bean leaves and I found a trick that worked great. in a butter tub or other small plastic container with a lid, cut a hole in the lid large enough for the bug to crawl into. then add about an inch of water (so they drown) and a tiny bit of veg oil (so they can't crawl out) and something smelly to attract them like soy sauce (I added a chunk of sardine). bury the container in the dirt up to the lid so they can crawl right into it. With the hole on top they can't crawl back out. Within a few days I had about 30 of those beetles fermenting in that butter tub. This also works on earwigs.
Hang those traps near the ground and where your chickens hang out and your chickens will do jump shots into the air to grab and eat the beetles. Free chicken food. You can also take those beetles in the bag and feed them to your chickens by mixing them in with some damped mash.
I have been feeding the dead ones to the chickens and they LOVE THEM! I never thought of just hanging the trap down lower though. GREAT IDEA! I will definitely have to try it. - Kevin

In the past week, I have seen these beetles in my front yard chewing up the leaves to my rose bush, and several other flowers. They haven't made their way to my backyard yet where my veggie garden is. I went to Home Depot tonight and bought 3 of the Spectracide bag-a-bug traps, just set them up, fingers crossed they work! Can't wait to see tomorrow how many beetles are in each bag!
It really is pretty awesome! As many things as I kill on the homestead, few things have brought me the joy of killing thousands of those little buggers at one time! PLUS the chickens and ducks loved them!

The rabbit in its cage behind Kevin is trying to avoid the sun as it lies at the edge of the cage. The cage should be placed in a shaded place to protect the animal.

On the way the top of my head itches and I reached up and there was a JAPANESE BEETLE IN MY HAIR!! my driver side window doesn't work, thank God I have a sunroof, but I had to hold the beetle and steer with one hand and open the sunroof with the other so I could toss it out. (I know how bees cause accidents now) ... Five minutes later? I kid you not. A SECOND ONE! in. My. Hair. *shudder* Which feed store carries those, and what was the brand name? Why rinse it out? That doesn't wash away the pheromone?

I found Japanese Beetles dead in a jar of "beer" I had placed to trap slugs. It wasn't really beer, it was sourdough starter which makes alcohol as a waste product and you usually pour it off and discard. I used it as "beer" for my strawberries and kale the last two years. Add a dab of honey if it isn't catching any slugs. The banana trap sounds like the same idea. Hootch. I would have thought it would work.
I'm on the fence on traps. So many mixed reviews on this topic. I back to 5000 acres of forest and I'm afraid I'd attract a Gazzillion and make my situation worse.
I used last summer Sevin I put it 2 times Beautiful summer free of theses Japanese Beatles my neighbors from both side they where full but my garden was free and it only cost me $ 3.79
I just looked @walmart site and they are almost 17.00 for one! Same brand ie rescue ,same bag ,same everything! Ill keep looking because that is ridiculous.
If you get a aluminum pie tin and put 3 inches of beer and put it out in your garden the grubs will come up and die from the beer. It worked for me. Nasty little bugs.

Part of the treatment is to use a Bt "grub be gone" on your lawn to kill (organic) the grub phase of their life cycle. Chickens can't eat them all. Grubs live in the ground for 11 months before emerging in june/July as adults. It's a process. But worth it to irridacate the pests.
I live in mid Missouri and tried this 2 years ago with little success. After researching found a Ag professor that said to absolutely do not use them because they only attract them. I had them over 100' away from my fruit trees and they were still all over my blue berry bushes. I would love to know if you still use these 3 years later and how they are working.
Japanese beetles traps really work! I noticed The grubs damaged my beautiful backyard grass. I was so upset and trying to kill them. Went to store, spend $70 plus tax on some thing to spread on the lawn and have to keep the lawn moist. But the weather has been so dry, no good rain for two months and I have to water my lawn every day ! It costed me a lot of money! One day I noticed the beetles on my garden plants, I used hands to catch them. But I did not really there hundreds of thousands of them in the tree until I looked up. I didn’t know what to do, very frustrating. Then went online searching for solutions, found traps online. Ordered two, first day caught about 1000, second and third day together, caught about 4000, forth day caught about 1800... I feel better. I hope every family have a couple of these traps to help control the numbers to the Japanese beetles! Grubs! Grubs destroys beautiful lawn and adult beetle destroy plants! And the one I used costed me $15, much cheaper then treating the grubs. Each Japanese beetles can reproduce 50-60 grubs and beetles!
OMG, that is amazing after three days. Incredible. Question, Any idea if there is a insecticide used in that trap? I know the one that I bought has insecticide in it, which I would not want to feed to my chicken (if I had any chickens),
10ft, 25ft... probably drawing them in from miles away. Your neighbors probably don't have a Japanese Beetle problem, thanks to your baiting them toward your garden..... Really, there should be some government program to eradicate them entirely, rather than fighting them year after year.
They actually ROT when they’re in the bags. So I’m not sure if you’ll be feeding them to your chickens, lol (not after putting the. In a sealed bucket, in the Sun, especially! I went to change the bag in my yard & it smelled like DEATH! That is no joke…I wanted to throw up, for sure!

Living Traditions Homestead I wish they had clear bags so we could see what was going into those bags I agree with you 100% I hear your wife giggling at the bugs in your beard at least we can get a little fun out of it yes I would get a real kick out of it if I could see how much that bag loaded up with those beetles can you get those bags at any store what's the name of it or can you tell the name of it on here if you can't that's okay I just wanted to tell my father because he planted me a little rosebush and I just love it but it looks like a doily full of holes and full Japanese beetles on it I hate them I usually don't like to kill living things but when they're living past that are eating and killing your place that give you food then they need to go and I hate bugs don't kill your plants and your plants that give you food and I never hated bug like I hate those Japanese beetles but I'm sure I I'll meet some more now that I have my own plant the only time I really get out is to throw bread out to the birds that in the trees and leave some water out for them since I'm not able to have animals because I wouldn't be able to care for them I really would love to have a little dog like a chihuahua or hot dog kind of dog I forgot the name more I have to get infusions at the Cancer Center bi-weekly right now that's why I said I enjoyed looking at your animals in the background and the music it was just so entertaining to me thank you so much may God reward you and your family for making me smile and other people smile

My experience says 30' is a minimum. Any less and you are bringing in the beetles. Before we bought the farm we lived in a 1/2 acre subdivision. The saying there was "if you want to catch YOUR beetles place the traps in your NEIGHBORS yard"!

Put enough vegetable oil in the water to form a layer on top, it clogs up the holes they breather through and they drown in the water in seconds

also they lay eggs in the soil which become grubs which the grubs attract moles--so its serving 2 purpose in one.

Part of the treatment is to use a Bt "grub be gone" on your lawn to kill (organic) the grub phase of their life cycle. Chickens can't eat them all. Grubs live in the ground for 11 months before emerging in june/July as adults. It's a process. But worth it to irridacate the pests.

I live in mid Missouri and tried this 2 years ago with little success. After researching found a Ag professor that said to absolutely do not use them because they only attract them. I had them over 100' away from my fruit trees and they were still all over my blue berry bushes. I would love to know if you still use these 3 years later and how they are working.
Put some soap on that water man! Also the smell of dead beetles attract more beetles so no need to rinse that bag out.

I hate these things! We call them June bugs. When I had a in ground garden I just hated seeing them in my dirt.

Japanese beetles traps really work! I noticed The grubs damaged my beautiful backyard grass. I was so upset and trying to kill them. Went to store, spend $70 plus tax on some thing to spread on the lawn and have to keep the lawn moist. But the weather has been so dry, no good rain for two months and I have to water my lawn every day ! It costed me a lot of money! One day I noticed the beetles on my garden plants, I used hands to catch them. But I did not really there hundreds of thousands of them in the tree until I looked up. I didn’t know what to do, very frustrating. Then went online searching for solutions, found traps online. Ordered two, first day caught about 1000, second and third day together, caught about 4000, forth day caught about 1800... I feel better. I hope every family have a couple of these traps to help control the numbers to the Japanese beetles! Grubs! Grubs destroys beautiful lawn and adult beetle destroy plants! And the one I used costed me $15, much cheaper then treating the grubs. Each Japanese beetles can reproduce 50-60 grubs and beetles!
The bags will last 2 yrs, keep scent pods in freezer. Will try 3 yr who knows?

OMG, that is amazing after three days. Incredible. Question, Any idea if there is a insecticide used in that trap? I know the one that I bought has insecticide in it, which I would not want to feed to my chicken (if I had any chickens),
10ft, 25ft... probably drawing them in from miles away. Your neighbors probably don't have a Japanese Beetle problem, thanks to your baiting them toward your garden..... Really, there should be some government program to eradicate them entirely, rather than fighting them year after year.
They actually ROT when they’re in the bags. So I’m not sure if you’ll be feeding them to your chickens, lol (not after putting the. In a sealed bucket, in the Sun, especially!

Those traps lure them in to your property. Be prepared you'll need several replacement bags.
Last year beetles were terrible 7 gal in one day at the worst, used traps for about 6 weeks. They must have helped not even 1 gal a day this year.

Living Traditions Homestead I wish they had clear bags so we could see what was going into those bags I agree with you 100% I hear your wife giggling at the bugs in your beard at least we can get a little fun out of it yes I would get a real kick out of it if I could see how much that bag loaded up with those beetles can you get those bags at any store what's the name of it or can you tell the name of it on here if you can't that's okay I just wanted to tell my father because he planted me a little rosebush and I just love it but it looks like a doily full of holes and full Japanese beetles on it I hate them I usually don't like to kill living things but when they're living past that are eating and killing your place that give you food then they need to go and I hate bugs don't kill your plants and your plants that give you food and I never hated bug like I hate those Japanese beetles but I'm sure I I'll meet some more now that I have my own plant the only time I really get out is to throw bread out to the birds that in the trees and leave some water out for them since I'm not able to have animals because I wouldn't be able to care for them I really would love to have a little dog like a chihuahua or hot dog kind of dog I forgot the name more I have to get infusions at the Cancer Center bi-weekly right now that's why I said I enjoyed looking at your animals in the background and the music it was just so entertaining to me thank you so much may God reward you and your family for making me smile and other people smile

My experience says 30' is a minimum. Any less and you are bringing in the beetles. Before we bought the farm we lived in a 1/2 acre subdivision. The saying there was "if you want to catch YOUR beetles place the traps in your NEIGHBORS yard"!
