      @@GaryDmedia it was still bad. I have peaking like crazy with it about a foot from my mouth. It's fine for normal speaking, but doing high energy announcing, I'm blowing this thing out. The worst part is that you don't know what you've got until playback which you can't do until you export. I'm sure if I get it farther away I'll be fine but it's definitely an experimental process. Maybe if I use the windscreen.

    • @taghappytv
      @taghappytv Před 2 lety

      @@dandyfunhouse I have been in contact with Rode regarding this issue as I find the input signal very sensitive. In short, they said Pad only drops the input sensitivity by -4db. What's unfortunate is if the audio clips on the way in any sort of safety track or low gain setting on the receiver or camera is void as the clipping is already in the pipe line. Rode said they'll pass the feed back on however I wouldn't hold my breath as to whether they'll impliment gain control at the transmitter level. The only way around this it to use a Pad attenuator between the mic and transmitter to pull back the gain. This is a shame as this issue alone completely ruins a great product. Who wants to risk clipping audio.

    • @DandyDoesIt

      @@taghappytv Thank you for digging into this. I have recently added the rode go lav mic with excellent results and exporting in 32 bit float instead of mp3 has appeared to have cleared up the issue. But I have only done one project since making these changes. It may simply be the 32 bit float export solving the issue but the lav mic sounds so good I'm hesitant to bother doing anything else. I'm not seeing any reason to record to the camera at all these days unless shooting from a great distance which I never do

    Hello Gary - we corresponded months ago right after my purchase of W-Go II and you and your tutorials were/are very helpful (and generous replying here on Comments all the way between Australia and Canada time zones!). Q: (on iphone 6 & 8 with analogue cord) I have my receiver Gain Mode and Gain set at Course and High, but an outdoor shoot this morning (Rode Lav Mic, very little wind) was a little at the top end close to distortion at moments. If I adjust to 'Mid' Gain will that give me less Mic input recording levels? I tend to project a little too much and have to remember I'm not teaching in a classroom (I lead seminars 4 times a yr for my RMT Peeps). Btw I'm also employing FilMic Pro by your lead! Photography hobby background is helping accelerate that learning - I botched some of this morning's focus as I should have locked it in 🙄). Appreciate your time very much - John.

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  Před 2 lety

      John, so good to hear from you again.
      Totally understand the projection issue. It’s hard to get into your mind you don’t need to speak to the back of the class.
      The latest firmware update added the option to add an input gain PAD.
      This is the instructions from the website:
      “To activate the pad, simply toggle the 'Pad' button in RØDE Central. You can also activate the pad from the receiver by selecting the transmitter using the pair button (‘∞‘), followed by a long press on the ‘dB’ button. Note: a short press will activate the mute function, so take care to hold the button until the pad symbol appears on the receiver display.”
      I think that will help lower the sensitivity of the lav mic. Lowering the output of the receiver will not fix distortion caused by high input into the transmitter.
      If that isn’t enough you could fit your mic under your shirt fabric.
      Hope that helps.

  • @taghappytv
    @taghappytv Před 2 lety +1

    Thanks for the video. I have a set myself. I was wondering what DB recording level the transmitters are on themselves? For example, I turn a transmitter on and have it record a speaker at a wedding with a Rode lapel mic. Does it have a default bit / DB recording level? Or does it reflect the receivers setting (which can change), even though in this example is it still turned off? Thanks in advance. In short, can I strap a lapel microphone to a speaker at a wedding and have it recording cleanly with out clipping? Thanks in advance.

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  Před 2 lety

      Tag Happy, in the WG2 settings be sure to adjust the TX so that it has full gain. That is, don’t switch on the PAD. Even at full input gain you would have to yell into it or sing very loudly to distort the input. Adjustment of the RX gain only adjusts the output going to the camera.

    Hi,
    Thank you for a great video :)
    My question is, can you delete a specific recording on the Røde transmitter? I see only the one 'delete all' option on the settings page in the Røde Control app.
    And another query, is there any editing program you would like to recommend working with Røde products?
    Thank you :)

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  Před 3 lety

      No at this stage there is no other way to individuality delete single files. Don’t worry because the system will record over the oldest recordings first. Future updates may allow more control.
      Even the free program Audacity is adequate to edit the files. The files can be imported into your video editing program and edited there as well. What program or app do you use to edit your videos?

Can I just raise it in post production? 2)I did some tests and recording with my phone (as it cannot record with an external mic) AND with the TX as a backup, I just don't manage to align them in my video app (which is Davinci as an example). Hello Zotmund, yes I have found the recording is low but because there is little background hiss you can raise in post. Just check that you have not selected MP3 for your TX recordings. MP3 is not a reliable time code for aligning with video. If this is not the case, you will have to align with setting markers.
