    Thanks so much for this video!! I'm in the process of replacing a Johnson bilge pump float switch and the new one I bought isn't working. Actually, this is the second new float switch I bought that isn't working. I visually inspected the inline fuse from the hot wire and it seemed intact. Once again, I wire nutted the wires together, manually engaged the float switch and nothing. I started the continuity tests you showed and low and behold, the fuse was bad. I replaced it and the float switch works!!! You're the man!!

      My Johnson SPX float switch didn't last long and my boat is trailered. I removed it today and cut it open and there was water ingress and major corrosion all around the relay. They are not sealing these units and they fail quickly in my experience. I'm looking for another switch now - hopefully, one that will work.

    super awesome job explaining everything with the correct and proper way of doing things. i mostly trust the continuity in the cables and jump straight into replacing components

    You made the diagnostic understandable. I love how you show using both the test light or use the multimeter, good idea. Thank you.

    Question. following your steps, it appears my float is bad, however shouldn't the bilge still run when I switch to manual from the helm?

    • @ShallowHookerFishing
      @ShallowHookerFishing  Před rokem

      If it is wired that way then yes it should override the float switch so test power and ground at your pump which the switch on

      @@ShallowHookerFishing Getting 9.5 amps at the pump end, too low right? Thank you for the quick response also.

      Well i would load the circuit with a headlight bulb 3057 or h2 and see the brightness of it compared to a direct test to the battery to assume it’s the circuit

      @@ShallowHookerFishing yeah, the pump won't run when direct to the wires at 9.5, but runs direct to the battery @ 12.9

    I did everything had a meter on the flute switch it's good the switch on the dash for the pump works and I got power to the flote switch still dont work what's next

      @ShallowHookerFishing  Před 2 lety +1

      You need to test your pump if the float switch is good

      Ok I see then you need to load test the float switch a bulb. If it does not light but show voltage the switch is faulty under load

    Confusing when checking the new float switch. You are pushing the lever DOWN to complete the circuit not UP. I know you mean the float is going up, but this is a confusing way of saying it.
