- This is an introduction to the Royal Tomb of Queen Seondeok, the first queen and the 27th monarch of Silla. Many would ascribe her full support for constructing Buddhist temples and others to her deep faith in Buddhism. During her reign (632~647), she founded Bunhwangsa Temple, the Nine-story Wooden Pagoda of Hwangnyongsa Temple, and Yeongmyosa Temple. She built Cheomseongdae, one of the world’s earliest observatories. Before she died, she expressed her wish to be buried in Doricheon, or the Kausika Heaven. Her lieges didn’t know where it was because the Heaven is mentioned only in Buddhist Scriptures. She told them that it was over the top of Mt. Nangsan. She believed that it was the Heaven where King Sakra(帝釋天) lived, taking control of the Four Heavenly Kings(四天王) below and monitoring the human world.
