- In this video, I am taking on the Cuba Libre Recipe and I want to find out if using different Rums REALLY make that much of a difference to the finished Cocktail. The Cuba Libre recipe is simply Rum, Coke and Lime but surely the type of Rum you use doesn't make that much of a difference. or does it?! Which is the best Rum for a Rum & Coke?

I love the energy and passion of this man
This man loves you too! Cheers for watching!
Yes I totally agree. He makes you excited about rum and he is also down to earth at the same time. Great channel
You can laugh, no problem. For me, the Captain Morgan white rum does it really good in the Cubra Libre. It has a special taste, that I personally like a lot. Another good choice in the low price category is the Bacardi Spiced (Oakheart). Of course, I tried Plantation 3 Stars or OD (and others), wich make a great CL.
Just now learning about rums. You do a great job explaining the rums with enthusiasm and in a down to earth style for the common man.
Lols. Common as Muck! Hahaha. Thank you for watching.
Just catching up on these vids. Love them and now I want more rums!😂😂
usually I use Captain Morgan in my rum and coke, you've got me thinking about the Flora De Cana 4 year old and the Appleton signature blend, love this video!
Cheers Daniel. Look, I'll be honest, Capt Morgs doesn't even play in the same arena as these guys. You'll notice a hell of a difference in Quality. Thats not me knocking CM... it's where i started 25 years ago and it's still a guilty pleasure now. But, just be prepared for something very different in taste! Like...VERY Different.
@@StevetheBarmanUK absolutely what I want! Thank you for confirming that.
Flor de Caña 4 is the only rum I’ve ever tasted (daiquiri)….. I was blown away at the bar. Absolutely incredible
Myers, I love that funk.
Havana 7 is my go to for my Cuba Libre at home 👌🏻 I’m biased as I love rum, but loving this new direction for the channel Mr Barman 🥃
Hav 7 will be making an appearance soon. Once we've run through the basic Rums, we'll be restocking the Back bar with the next level up.... El Dorado 8yo, Bacardi 8, Hav 7, Appleton 8, Angostura 7, Hampden 8yo etc etc
@@StevetheBarmanUK I’ll be staying tuned mate. I’ll be honest, I don’t have or have never done rum cocktails, although I’d love to have a go at some. My usual rum drinks are either neat if a decent rum or mixed with Coke Zero or ginger ale. I’m not very adventurous with cocktails as I’m the only rum drinker I know 😂 they beauty of that is though, that I don’t have to share. I’ve a feeling these videos may provide a bit of inspiration to dip the tow into rum cocktails finally
Havana 7 is a great rum
Hi there Steve! Till now I've declared the Havana 7 as my champion but, after I tried the Worthy Park 109 it changed the game. I'm still rechallenging my decision with Appleton signature, Flor de caña 7, n' El Dorado 5 after reading your comments. What do you suggest?
I really like your energy and accent, nothing which I have these days, I am Like a dead Person lol
I’ve always used Lambs in my rum and coke. When it’s my birthday I usually get a bottle of Havana 7, which I love. When Flor de Cana first appeared on the shelves I liked it…but then the price went up.
Got myself some Flor De Cana 15 today and it made a lovely Cuba Libre. Looking for a good white rum for this now though...
Woah, that’s a hefty Rum to Mix! But because of the whiskey vibes to it, I totally get that it’s great with Coke. Just quite expensive…. 😂😂
As for the white Rums, I’ve been so impressed with some of them I’ve tried. We always overlook white rum, but I’ve got some belters. Plantation 3 Stars, Montanya Platino, Ron Cubay Carta Blanca, Kingston 62 (Appleton)…think they’re my top 4 at the moment.
@@StevetheBarmanUK Ace. I'll have a shop around. I did look at the Ron Cubay and was looking at the Flor De Cana 4 too.
STEVE!!! This is an interesting video. One would think to just add some rum and calling it a day. But this def puts that to rest. I may have to get some Flor de Cana....
Good Shout! Just wait for the Daiquiri Video!
@@StevetheBarmanUK I got my OFTD!!!!
Although the white rum do make a very bright, more fruity and citrusy Cuba Libre, I prefer the Havana Club - Anejo 7 year old Rum. The aged, darker rum really brings out the vanilla and caramel notes of the Coke, and the lime is just a fresh flourish on top, instead of a main flavor note. Getting Cuban rums in the US is difficult, but luckily I know people who travel to the Caribbean frequently, and can keep me supplied.
Also, it should be noted that the BEST cola for making this drink is Fever Tree's "Distiller's Cola". It's just on an entirely different level than Coke, and brings depth, complexity, and cleanness of flavor that Coke doesn't provide...
To clarify “The Best” relates to you only and what you prefer. 😉😇😂 so it’s YOUR Favourite. Not the best for everyone 👍
I'm a fan of the Havana rums for my Cuba libre, always got a couple of bottles in the house, I do like playing around with different spiced rums to but all away got back to the Havana's
It was great revisiting the Especial. Not had that in years. Such a decent Rum!
@@StevetheBarmanUK the especial has just start arriving in some pubs near me much better than most the stuff in the pubs before
Way cool.
Steve needs to say "1 hour at my bar" with just you and Steve while u try his rums! He could easily make 100 pound an hour!!! I think an easy earner that.
Hahaha... Watch this space in 2022!
@@StevetheBarmanUK book me in soon as you do!!!
OK. I broke my rum cherry on Flor de Cana in 1974 while visiting my aunt who was stationed in Nicaragua at that time. It is still one of my go to Rums. That said, I enjoy a variety of rums, mostly dark, for their taste and ability to provide the taste I enjoy.
Let me know about your goto Dark Rum on your other comment 👍
I managed to find ED3 last week and it blew me away, I did a Daiquiri with it, Plantation 3 star, Flr de Cana and Cana Brava, all very different, but very good, it came down to ED3 and Flor de Cana, and I couldn't decide.
Just edited the Daq Video. You're not far off me!
@@StevetheBarmanUK when Trevor #× said he preferred ED3 over Plantation 3 star I thought he was crazy, couldn't see how it's better, whew is it good! Then I seen a report saying Flor de Cana was the best Daiquiri rum, so I picked it up, and yeah, they're all awesome, but I lean slightly, very slightly for Flor De Cana
My go to rum is a cheap French rhum that's usually used for cooking over here but in a rum & coke it's my favourite and is sweet: Negrita dark rhum. I don't think you can get it in the UK. I haven't tried a lot of other rums apart from Bacardi white, Havana 5y and Plantation 5y so maybe I need to be a bit more adventurous 😮
Do it Al Hoooooo. Do It!!!!!
@@StevetheBarmanUK You're a bad influence Steve 😜😈😈
@@StevetheBarmanUK I recently got hold of Appleton's sig and Flor de Cana 4Y Extra dry but neither are better than my Negrita Cuba Libre! I know I'm a philistine...
YUP!!! First in!!
Where's the best online shop to purchase these runs??
If you're in the UK, I always recommend these guys, Master of Malt. Really good range, great prices, awesome customer service; stblive.uk/masterofmalt
Masters of Malt is really expensive outside of the UK
I use Bacardi razz in my Cuba Libre
Nice. Slight hint of Raspberry will work well!
@@StevetheBarmanUK I love it!
Really? I was given a litre of the stuff and have been trying to work out what to do with it
My dad, brother and I are huge fans of rums. I'm so excited for the videos you'll be bringing out for rums!! My friends love your pornstar recipe. You tha best!
Fun fact: cola curdles milk so I used this fact to make a clarified Cuba Libre that was really good and looked cool because it was clear.
So Bacardi Blanco should just be used to wash down the bar
Haha... just wait for the Daiquiri Video....
Appleton was my go to for Cuba Libre, but ED12 completely destroyed it, and not even putting the price into account, because here in Canada, when ED12 is on sale, is cheaper than Appleton.
I love to play with differnt rums for a cuba libre. My favourit is Don Papa right now... although its almost to good to be mixed with coke. I also wanna go down further the rabbithole and maybe even start a rum collection... but that is loaded with a lot of try and error lol
Hey Tommy, no need to go crazy, maybe one Rum at a time... see what you like, what you don't. It's not that hard to get a feel of the style you like after a few. RumX app is great too... (if you're UK or Europe. It's not US or Canada yet)
@@StevetheBarmanUK I live in Germany. Not planning on going crazy 🤣 gonna try to find Rums the go the same direction as the Don Papa
Ya. Bacardi white is basically vodka. Don’t care much for the stuff. For a Cuba libra, I prefer Havana reserva which wasn’t on your Havana video
Unless I’m being Dumb, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of Havana Reserva. We get Especial. 3yo, 7yo and the SDM. I wasn’t aware there was another one.
Ya. Think of it as a better 7. But priced the same as the especial. It’s very good rum. Especially for the price
use Don q instead of Bacardi
This is simple - THE BEST Cuba Libre is simply Havana Rum with RC Cola or no name cola - YOU CAN NOT use Coca Cola because they don't have it in Cuba. If you want it to be authentic use RC Cola and Havana Cuban rum
Havana club espical for me.... Whatever you do don't open up a can of worms by changing the cokes. Pepsi max for me tbh.
Haha. I’ll be honest, I’m a Pepsi man too. I prefer Pepsi to Coke. However…weirdly, I do prefer Coke Zero over Pepsi Max 🙈
