OUR REVIEW OF THE SUN ODYSSEY 34.2 SAILING YACHT

  • Ok so our opinion is slightly biased as we have one and love it (and for a limited period its up for sale) but we have owned and sailed quite a number of different boats now so have some idea of what makes a good boat. Although these arnt perfect they do make exceptionally comfortable coastal cruisers and when compared to similar boats from other manufacturers they do represent excellent value for money.
We make these films just for fun, and we hope that you have enjoyed watching them however we have been asked on a couple of occasions now if we have a Patreon account. We don’t want to do that at this stage as we feel it would turn the channel into a business, and as we said at the beginning, this is all just for fun. However if you would like to support us and feel you could help contribute to the cost of making these films then you can do that via our PayPal account here. A big thank you to everyone that has already done this, its a great help.

Love your autopilot, behaved very well and doesn't make too much noise. 👍

Nice review! We have the two cabin, but it's rarely anyone but my wife and me, plus lately our two cats. I'd miss the big cockpit locker we get on the port side and the bigger head means more space for the cat litter box. Galley storage space is a high priority for my wife, so we converted the extra port side hanging locker into a pantry. If we regularly had guests I'd prefer the 3 cabin, but we really like the 2.

Hi Steffan. Lovely to hear from you and I hope you wernt offended. And thankyou for posting this comment, I think its important that people get just more than just our opinion and are then better able to make there own mind up about the boat

Ah, we have the two cabin version too and I love your idea for a pantry, Steffan! Both versions are equally fantastic cruisers, depending I guess on whether you’re a couple or a family, the living space is everything you want and need, but the large heads feels like a proper bathroom and was the winner for me.

    "What's the best boat?"
Every single boat is a compromise.
I view the question as a triangle with Affordability (this one is tricky since it can be thought of as long term or short term affordability, usually in direct opposition to each other), Sailability, and Livability at opposite corners: the Sun Odyssey 34.2 (and the entire line in my opinion) are a well rounded mix of all three. It's not a Sun Fast, it was never intended to be, so you can't expect it to be. Great video as usual!

How did I miss this? Great review of pros and cons. I still miss the Hanse!
    Looks like an MD2020.

@@SailingwiththeFoxwellFamily Really very tempted by a 300ish Hanse. Great wee thing.

Yup all those smaller Hanses were based around the same hull so I'm sure they would all sail well. The 300/301 had a double berth under the cockpit though that is really tight. If your at all claustrophobic then you wouldnt want to sleep in it :-)

@@SailingwiththeFoxwellFamily As long as it has the 2020, fin keel, 4 winches, heating and hot water plus a tiller rather than a wheel, I’m happy!! Great wee boats. Not too claustrophobic!

Really like your Jenneau 34.2 but can’t find the email you mentioned?

It is in the about us part of CZcams some where. I don't want to type it here again encase it brings with it more spam email. If you are interested in the boat we currently have it listed with David Morris Yacht Brokers davidmorrisboats.co.uk/ just tell them you found the boat via our channel.

So if you do end up selling it, what happens then? Just dinghy sailing from then on, or will you be getting another cruising-capable sailboat?
