  • In my ongoing journey to reach ultra-productivity I decided to try "quitting" social media. This is a journey that I've been on privately, but I thought to share it, in case others are going through it too.
Now I wasn't able to completely quit, since my career, hobbies, and ambitions rely on social media. But I tried to "quit" as much as possible. Here are the results

10 days is a very short period of time to realize any gains.
you even started to questions the experiment after 3 days!
social media made you addicted to distractions, so normally you would look for other distractions when you are not on social media. but that doesn't mean that social media is not the problem. if you keep it for longer you would have started to find better ways and you would have started to be able less addicted to distarctions.

I agree it's not very long, but I realized the problem is deeper. But I realized that it wasn't going to be solving the problems, and I shifted focus onto something that is deeper.
Basically I don't think I was targeting the root of the problem

Hey Tadas! I consider myself highly productive. I get at minimum 6 hours of focus coding time in, tracked using wakatime and have a high productivity pulse, tracked using Rescue time.
I set only 8 hours of focus work called focus sprints. Each lasts 2 hours and has 0 distractions, i.e. no emails, no reading etc. Each sprint has a specific goal, each sprint starts with 10-20 minutes of planning, the work. unless I planned it all out in the sprint before.
Now in between that you take actual breaks. Walk around, excersice, nap. I usually op for nap, meditate or getting a workout in. minimum 30 minute breaks between sprints.
I start my day very early so I have a lot of breaks between in which I sometimes do admin. But i try and keep my admin fixed to a focus sprint.
Transcendental meditation helps with boredom. I see it as true time with myself. So when I'm waiting for builds, or have time between meetings I literally just sit with my eyes closed. it feels weird at first, but you get used to it.

Very interesting. I like this concept of focus sprints. I’ve been implementing something like this the previous week and it seems to be working out well so far. I think the planning part before the work is critical

      It's very interesting.
What I do is sit untill I don't feel bored or it's time to finish day's work. Based on interest and mood, sometimes it's more productive and sometime way less productive.
I'll give it a try to your approach

@@tadaspetra Everyone responds differently but so far a lot of people I've spoken too about this seems to enjoy it a lot and are way more productive. To take even more performance anxiety off the table, some days I only have 1-2 focus sprints and do admin stuff the rest of the time.

@@tadaspetra This is the key.. focus on what you want to do as an exclusive task. Know your limits. Isolate yourself from the bad. Even go so far as putting a firewall on your computer and vow to keep the wall up until your timer goes off. However, I think you should have isolation from outside stuff, a greater part of the day. Distraction stuff near the end of the day so you can sleep it off. Learning at the very end of the night so you can auto-relearn while sleeping (read up on this). All that with sleep beckoning you to keep time limits.

It’s hard especially when you have your business online. I’d be curious to see how you would handle that

It would be best if you started up the tutorial vids again. These were what got me and others to subscribe to you. Use the extra time to make more vids.
Your tutorial on timers was how I learned about your channel and also one of the key components of my first app called Buddhist Sun.
For youtube.. Turn off "History" and there will be less that shows up on your home screen and less Google says they know about you.
As you know.. writing down your usage of "anything" (computer, phone, work, exercise, food) will help increase or decrease according to your wholesome intention for writing it down in the first place.
Try to remain focused and isolated in your wholesome activities while doing them. That is the most important part which will regulate the other stuff. Set time goals for the wholesome things and focus on that.
Also have certain places where you do certain things and where you don't do certain things. Places where devices or apps are allowed not allowed etc.
Having a wholesome time filler is a good point, but the main thing is being focused and only doing one thing at a time for certain stretches. Being content with your task is good even during those times when there is temporary "down time"..
What shocked me the most when I visited the USA in 2006 was the multitasking that was happening. It was crazy then.. and so much more today.
