I Played HARDCORE Subnautica for 100 days And This Is What Happened...

- While I have seen several other CZcamsrs survive 100 days in Subnautica, I wanted to see if I would be able to do all of that with one life.
Apart from only having one life, hardcore Subnautica also presents the added pressure of having no manual save button, meaning you can't just reload to a previous save if one of your vehicles gets destroyed or glitched out.
This was also recorded before the recent Subnautica 2.0 update, which added the unstuck button, so getting trapped or clipped into terrain is still a very real threat.
This took me an incredibly long time to make, so if you would maybe consider subscribing, it would be greatly appreciated. - Hry
I think the moral of the story is whatever amount of glass you think you need, double it. Then triple that number.
There is only one leviathan I kill in every playthrough. It's a reaper. Specifically, it's the one by the Aurora's engines. You know the one. The one that's jumpscared literally everyone at least once.
See, playing around in creative taught me some things.
Thing 1: everything is as hostile as every in creative, they just can't bite or grapple you.
Thing 2: because they can't bite or grapple, they don't play hostile noises or animations when following you around.
Thing 3: the absolute bastard hanging out by the Aurora's engines is programmed different from all others.
I _was_ using creative mode to explore the plateau thoroughly, categorizing everywhere one can fit a multipurpose room, seeking out cool base locations. There is a little patch of kelp forest between the crash zone and the nearby red grass zone. I was poking around and trying to jam a room into a canyon when a familiar shadow appeared and I whipped around and had a heart attack as a reaper screamed in my face from 3 meters away. But of course, I was in creative, so I knew it could't attack me, and my immediate response was irritation. Then it became curiosity.
See, I didn't know how animal aggression in this game worked until I popped on creative. I had already been futzing around near some reapers before this big bastard, I knew they were harmless, I knew they didn't act hostile, and I knew something was up here. So I spent a couple hours testing, and boy what I learned!
See, that reaper is special. Every leviathan in the game has a detection radius, and a space I would term their territory, the space where they spend eternity just flopping around. If you enter their territory, you're guaranteed to cop an attack. If you're outside their territory, you _might_ get chased if they hear or see you inside their detection radius. All animals in Subnautica have different amounts of aggression too.
So the reaper in question is a dev trick. They want you afraid of leviathans. They want you traumatized and avoiding them wherever possible. So, they made the most common surface leviathan the reaper, and gave it a nice long grapple animation so it can stare you in the eyes while it roars and tries to kill you. This alone would be enough to discourage plenty of people, but the one by the engines is special. It has a massively expanded territory, and it's highly aggressive. The absolute moment you put a toe out of line, it's gonna find you and attack.
Even in creative.
So, yeah. I kill that thing every time. Because I don't want to deal with it's special different rules.
Wait, if you kill a Leviathan, it doesn't spawn anymore??
@@RodrigoPereira-bz9ri in my experience, they don't. Leviathans are persistently tracked. It's why you can accidentally change where one lives.
If thats the case, we can follow Margarett's mantra, hunt the sea monsters until there is none to hunt you 😂😂
Actually that part about increased aggression makes sense, although wether that is the case because of increased radius or because I discovered while playing hardcore, I don’t know
My guy is doing more in 100 days than I've ever done in any single one of my Subnautica saves
Same with you, might eventually kill a ghost leviathan tho cause my mining sessions are getting interupted
@@angelwest2398 dude Jeremy the lost river ghost leviathan interrupted one mining session before i was like, "Ok. Every time i come down here this dude is gonna take a bite outa my prawn suit...." and then i proceeded to drill the life outa that mf and watched the life leave his eyes
@@angelwest2398 but it respawns... right?
@@Sconginah, leviathans don’t respawn when killed.
I remember my first play through, every time I took my cyclops through the river, he would attack me, one time, I got kinda stuck and ran outta power, not wanting my cyclops to blow up, I boarded my prawn to draw him away, and fought that fucker for like 15 minutes, it was awesome, now no lost river ghost leviathan
24:09 the reasoning speedrunners can do this so quick part way has to do with the metal salvage given, 3 out of 4 of the metal salvage types has a 25% chance to give a metal salvage, and sometimes their nests are above the ground
that was amazing nothing to improve honestly extremely underrated
Glad you think so! : )
At the start I was not sure you could achieve all the goals in just 100 days, but you made it just in time!
Thank you very much for this video. It was a great reminder of how good Subnautica is.
Glad you enjoyed it, I definitely realized around day 75 that I was gonna need to speed some things up if I was gonna finish everything in time 🤣
Sometimes doctors will build up a pile of scrap metal around there. There is always dozens of stalker teeth.
That gas pod trick to kill leviathans is sooo cool!
I know, it’s a bit dangerous, but it works so well!
@@Breathtaker5000 can you grab the pods themselves with a propulsion cannon? It would be slower but longer range?
I think so
18:00 I just got a MK3 module for my seamoth, went down, got all the nickel and sulfur I needed for BOTH MK1 and Jump Jet Upgrade mods for the prawn and then went up, no cyclops or base needed. That’s been my only trip to the lost river so far. I still haven’t made a cyclops. I’ve got the blueprints I’m just too lazy
Now that I think about it, that's probably the way you are supposed to do it, good to know :)
I got your time capsule! It was exactly what you put in there. A stasis rifle meditation and keep calm poster
I didnt know the time capsules are actualy from other pleyers
Fine I’ll play another Subnautica play through
this seems like a fun challenge which I could do myself, with two simple (arguably more difficult) changes: replacing the Cuddlefish egg challenge with a complete Alien Containment catalog challenge and the leviathan slaying challenge with a complete databank challenge.
So you have to scan every creature and plant?,Along with finding at least 1 of every egg and catchable fish and putting them in the alien containment?.
@@bendily3623 yup
Things that never crossed my mind when playing Subnautica until you mentioned them, episode no. 46: dying of scurvy before kharaa.
Extremely underrated and overlooked content. Honestly you are my favourite subnautica CZcamsr! Hope you become popular in the near future!
Can't wait for Hardcore Subnautica Below Zero! Loved the video as well, I'm a big fan of Subnautica!
Underrated af id say with this quality you deserve 60k subs
So glad I came across your channel! Severely underrated, really cool playthrough!
Glad you enjoyed it :)
I feel like subnautica is a game where I can start a new world and not really feel like progress has been lost because after you know where everything is, you can get a lot of things back fast. I personally think that this makes the game more fun.
You should make more videos like this
I know, it’s just that they take so long to make 🙃
This was the best 100 days vid I've ever watched keep up the good work 👍
Thanks, Will Do! :)
It would be so cool if he did the void quest a few updates ago since the void had a bottom
On my switch edition save, I used the prawn suit equipped with the grapple arm and drill arm to, quite literally, drill an adult ghost leviathan to death in the void. It's actually easier than you think. But I haven't killed a reaper or sea dragon yet lol
I've played through twice in hardcore. The 2nd time, I chose to limit myself to vehicles only - no base building. I could still craft and use the habitat builder, but I could only use it inside the Cyclops. The toughest part was not having access to the vehicle modification bay.
holy, what a beatiful video, keep it up bro!
Thanks! Will do :)
Love to see subnatica content still around
This channel is breath taking
I would love to see you adventure on Sector Zero. Can't wait for more.
i love how you have totally different playstyle than me, how you build you base inside cyclops and how you plan for everything. i just built prawn with mk1, drill arm with hook and went straight to lost river :D tbh, i like your style much more. Amazing video!
It was a pleasure watching this , by the way make sure you breath while reading :)
6:20 There is a third entrance into the Aurora that, from what i remember, doesn't require a propulsion cannon.
> Cyclops
> Blood Kelp Trench
My my, you're a bold one.
Weeeeeeeeell, I’d say you fought a ghost juvenile. THatS ChEATinG
Speedrunners simply done make observatories
Dude, I really enjoyed watching this, why does it have so little views?
As hard as it is for me to admit, i think some ppl just didnt watch this because they got bored, i mean, basically nothing went wrong, ig it’s like reading a book with no antagonist, sure the leviathans can be labeled as antagonists, but it seemed to be such an easy hurdle to overcome
to get stalker teeth fast: grav trap a few scrap pieces over a stalker nest and you created a teeth farm :)
“Dentists hate this one simple trick” :)
How a great video like this only has 52 coments and less than 1000 likes? While watching this video I discovered much things I didn't knew such as on hardcore mode its easier to find resources (or maybe its because you are on pc, I play on console)
Attempted to beat the game in hardcore, died when trying to recover the cuddle fish egg from the Torgle habitat
Dagasi crew habitat**
great video! also where did you find the plant shelfs?
those lifepod numbers sure will get you😂
Amazing video!!!
I always feel so motivated by pictures of dead fish
Now this is good content
the cuddle fish eggs are doing well already
33:32 that’s actually a smart way to kill a reaper leviathan
11:40 That copper node is the mushroom forest welcoming committee, i harvest it every play through
LOL. I didn't know there was a gun at all. I completed the whole game basically avoiding all the creatures at all cost :D
i found your time capsule. at first i was like who is this guy but now seeing you video i know who you are.

Bro forgot something!!!
Already existed to watch the below zero hardcore ❤❤❤
I really likes this but the quality wasn’t so good but good job! Keep up the good work
I just beat subnautica hardcore too and honestly I forgot I was in hardcore until the end when I got really scared and speedran the game 17 hours 52 days beat
24:08 i heard it 😂😂😂😂 , love ur vids ❤❤❤
Nice start! Now can you do it:
1. As a vegan run, meaning no filtered water OR edible fish
2. No usage of the Builder tool
3. Killing an ADULT Ghost Leviathan rather than a mere juvenile?
Can this man already blow up please
30:12 ngl the shark sacred the cheap out of me
Interesting idea, but 30- fps is pretty hard
Upd:saw your new videos, nice chamges! Keep going!
Nice
Thanks
I know I’m a little late but I would love to see you do this in below zero
You can just grow bloodvine in an outdoor growbed, by putting one blood oil in it
Remember me when you’re famous
I loved this
I’ve never used the path finder tool. I’m on my second try at hardcore, I died in the jelly shroom cave sadly. I think I will give it a try tho bc I want this to be my last hardcore run.
Please make more Subnautica Below Zero videos! I thoroughly need them... HELP!
This man is way to funny 😂
good video
nice video
Thanks :)
At 1 point i didnt know abt prop cannon so i thought the jump was the only was lol
The prawn suit was not useless at that point I was no longer a coward after getting it😂
Yet another youtuber i shall torture in attempt to get an fcs playthrough (the one funni tech mod)
adult and juvenile ghost leviathan are specifed as different scans
My latest hardcore run ended when my prawn suit clipped through the ground. I'm having trouble getting myself to get back in the game.
Not to get political, but what's the best lifepod (it's 17)
So your the person who left that time capsule I found it next to life pod 19.
try 100 irl days in subnautica
how does one forget the life pod number so much
Why didn't you enter the lost river through the deep frand reef
theres solar eclipses in that?
lmao why does the ghost leviathan have more health than the dragon?!
i disagree with your statement at 18:00 about progression, i think it's perfect how they did it, and i hope it's how they do it again in Subnautica 2 or maybe even a bit harder on the material cost
I have also killed a leviathan the reaper and ghost but all I used is the thermo blade and the stasis rifle
I've gotten to the pint with Subnautica that playing any thing other then hc is just creative with extra effort.😂
Please do one for Subnautica below zero
why do they always sound on the verge of tears?
15:10 the reason why it has so much health was because you were looking at the adult ghost leviathan but the one in the lost river is a juvenile
Lntern trees on TOP
He did all that in 33 hours plus it's hardcore , I can't do half of that in 100😭😭😭
Bro did like 150% more progress in 43 days than i did in like 77-80 days but its my first save ever so lol (82 days to be exact)
You half to hatch the cuddle fish eggs to put the in there
At the start the search bar said why are you reading this text.
This dude sounds like Chris Griffin
0:30 THERE'S 5?
I don’t think is is hard core because it says you can’t see your hunger and water and o2 bar
It’s hardcore mode
@@OliCutter thanks I realized that after I looked at description again and it said no alerts but so you still see the o2 bars and stuff but thanks
It’s actually called a sulfur plant🤓
I’m on day like 91and I don’t have modification station
Theres 5 omg
I dont want to be a hater but i finish the game, i beat one of all creature, save all cuddlefishes, only 2 and make 2 bases in the void in my second playthout, because when i started subnautica i played creative, after that I tried survival and I was scared, second legit playthrough i beat the game in 23 hours and 50 mins
edit: I know this is hardcore, but i actually have a hardcore playthrough, i lost like in the deep grandreef, because im playing on an ps4 pro and i have lag 😢 and i have live stream the game on twich 😢
edit: if Im right the reinforce suit is actually removes the heat damage completely
Pls hardcore subnautica below zero
Degasi wreks*
I didn't know this until now but I got this time capsule
pls can u put some more tips
That’s not what this video was for, there’s plenty of tips for hardcore Subnautica in other videos.
ik but he asked what to put next ya bozo@@DoctorDipshits
BRO NO EFFING WAY I FOUND YOUR TIME CAPSULE
