    Hi Nora! About keeping stuff like quilts. Here's what I do. When I get a new batch of fabric and it is my new "favorite" fabric, I make a quilt for myself first. I have just a twin bed, so it doesn't take forever. Then I go in my closet and get rid of my oldest quilt that I have made, usually I have gotten lots of use out of it, and I tend to like the quilt I made more recently anyways, so I wash and patch the old one and give it to a homeless person. Not much attachment to anything else I make. I think I just enjoy making things and giving them to others so that they can enjoy them. Glad you made some money at the craft fair!

      That’s a great solution Paula, and what a great feeling it must be to give a quilt to someone who so genuinely needs it!

    I have made 2 bargello quilts and do not think i could sell them as they were my first efforts, a LOT OF WORK. For the little bowls, glue a magnet to the back and they will make really cute magnets for the fridge. I would sell the bags at 15. i think prices are up for fabric now so.... I loved listening to your videos. thanks for posting.

    Well done Nora! I’m not surprised you sold the deer quilt, it is absolutely beautiful. You deserve the success, it sounds like a lot of hard work, but great fun too xx

    I think you do wonderful work on all your projects. I really appreciate what you do. I thought the 🦌 quilt was awesome. Maybe you could sell your bowls in a set like you would sell a set of regular dishes. Could you sell some of your things on Facebook market place? Keep up the great work, my friend. Hugs and God bless.

    I totally understand you being torn about doing more craft festivals! I do the back and forth-from “never again” to “well, it was kinda fun.” I always struggle with pricing my items and you cannot predict what people will buy! You think one of your items will be a big seller and you make a ton of them and don’t sell a single one. Ugh! We have a couple of large festivals in my area (east central Mississippi) but one is in May (which isn’t too bad) but the other is always around the first of September. The last time I did that one it was 99 degrees and our tent was on asphalt. That was an absolute “never again!!” and I’ve stuck to it. I did a pop up shop at a local bakery (it was just 4 or 5 hours) and made more than I did at an all day fall festival. You just never know. But, just like you, I will continue to make beautiful things even if no one cares! 🙂

    Congratulations on the first quilt sale. I have made well over 100 quilts or wall hangings but have given most of them away. Th ones I have are either on a bed or I have a spot in my living room with a curtain rod and monthly I change out the quilts and is a nice change of scenery each month and people love seeing whats new up on the wall.

    Congratulation on selling the deer quilt! I totally understand the high that comes from a sale like that. However, I for one will never do another craft fair. Too much time, too much work setting up and taking down, and no real guarantee you'll even make the booth cost.

    • @mostlyquilts1386
      @mostlyquilts1386  Před 2 lety +1

    You really need consideration of time and expenses. Most people do them for the fun and social aspect. It can be a financial drain if you're not careful. Pricing can be a game, depending where you are. I found pricing up helps but offer a deal like 2 for? I.e. the bags $20 or 2 for 30.

  • @RosemaryN
    @RosemaryN Před 3 lety

    People always say to me “you should sell your quilts!”. But I don’t think I could sell them. First of all, I wouldn’t know where to start with pricing. There is a lot of money invested in fabric and batting, then how do you ever put a price on the time involved. I have gifted *many* to my large family and I use and display *many* here at home. I also have given small ones to Project Linus. Maybe once you sell the first one it becomes exciting and puts you in a merchant mode lol. Idk. Congratulations on your sale, Nora!

    • @mostlyquilts1386
      @mostlyquilts1386  Před 3 lety +1

      Pricing is the worst. If we priced quilts what their really worth, they’d be priceless. I’m not sure I can sell any more quilts. I just feel so attached, but if I make a quilt I don’t love (I DID love the deer quilt), I’d have no problem selling it. How was your experience with project Linus? I bet that was very rewarding.

    • @RosemaryN
      @RosemaryN Před 3 lety +2

      @@mostlyquilts1386 I heard about Project Linus and found the local organization online and made contact. Then it was basically dropping the 6 quilts to a volunteer who sews a label into each quilt brought to her and I believe she in turn takes all the quilts to another volunteer who distributes them to local family and children services. I was told that each child right up to age 17 is able to go into the quilt room and choose whichever quilt they want. I love that. My 6 quilts were themed neutral or more masculine as I heard that they have an abundance of feminine styles and colors.
