@kentcampbell122 you don't want a nail where the next shingle seam is. Water runs in those seams and if a nail is too close, it could potentially leak, and also be a very hard leak to find/ fix.

So why the space between the first and last nail? Why aren’t shingles ever nailed with even spacing the whole way through?
