    Interesting guide for DYI mechanics. Really helpfull. One recommendation for DYI mechanics and the professional ones, when, brake pads or discs have signs of bad worn, it's worth to check as well the guide pins. Usually they are stuck and doesn't allow a free movement when pushing the break pedal. The one that slides easier will take over all the presure. In the end will cause bad wearing if the disc and pads. Good luck.

    Very Good - thank you. It may be useful to point out that if after backing off the handbrake you still have difficulty removing the disk, you can utilise the two 13mm bolts in the two threaded holes on the face of the disk to push it off.

    Thank you for a very clear and informative video. You literally saved me a trip to a mechanic and a stack of cash. I have done some basic maintanance on brakes before, but before I had not touched rear disks, because I didn't know how to deal with the rear handbrake.

      Colin CK Why is the video mirrored? Followed the initial removal fine, at the beginning, but then the tutorial changed to reverse viewing without mentioning it when the caliber holder was reattached. Bit confusing that...

    Great video. Thank you. I have very similar avensis diesal 2007 2.0 litre. Been trying-without success- for two days to remove brake discs to get to broken lug bolt. Yours is the first video that mentions the handbrake adjustment. Perhaps this is why it won't come off?

      You could collapse the ratchet which should stop the shoes from grabbing onto the disc.

    Hi,
    Can i ask a question.
    I have a 2011 avensis with electric hand break. How could i check that the hand break is properly set if i can't count the clicks as u did with the manual?
    Thanks.

    Any chance of a quick video to show the front and back Jacking Points on the Toyota Avensis and why you prefer the position you use for the axle stands as opposed to the standard jacking point between the two notches.
    Between the Two Notches which is the standard recommended point and is the only point i have used to jack mine and am not sure of the other Safe Points, I want to do an oil change so the front point under the Engine would be a big help to me. Thanks for any input.

    • @amateurtorque6709
      @amateurtorque6709  Před 4 lety

      Hi Dave, I would rather not produce a video for jacking points, in case someone hurts themselves after watching my video. I prefer to use chassis points on the car rather than the official jacking points near the sill, as it's an old car eventually they will weaken, however the chassis will always be solid.

      @@amateurtorque6709 Thanks for the reply, mine is the same car on an 07 plate but i have changed all the Discs and Pads (front and back) replaced one rear caliper and refurbished one front caliper (was priced at £358.00 by Toyota Dealer for replacement) . I have also replaced both back springs which involves removing the rear cabin to get access to the springs in the process i replaced both stabiliser/anti-roll links.
      I used the jacking points for all that work but your reply makes perfect sense.
      If we say the skirt is the projecting strip with the two notches in we use as a standard jacking point (as i do) How far in does the chassis start and how thick is the chassis frame. Looking at your vids you seem to be about 6 inches in from the skirt ? about 18 inches behind the front wheels and mirror that for the back would you say

      @@amateurtorque6709 At 1 minute and 10 seconds of this video we get a clear view of the front end jacking area. I am guessing you use the part just in front of the Two Nuts in the centre connected to the short piece of Plate ?

    Hi , might sound like a silly question but how do you stop it from rolling forward when working on it? Do you have wheel chocks at the front? Or do you just put it in gear? Thanks

    • @amateurtorque6709
      @amateurtorque6709  Před rokem +1

      No its not a daft question. Because its a FWD car I generally put it in first gear just in case the car starts to roll while I'm jacking up the rear wheels. However when I change the rear brakes on the Lexus, which is RWD, putting it in first gear doesn't make any difference, once its raised and on axle stands it doesn't budge anyway, and to be safe I put the wheels u dear the car just in case.

    Hello, I’ve got a question. Are the rear inner wheel wells made out of fabric? Just saw that on my avensis and don’t if that’s how it’s supposed to be or is it missing something.

    • @amateurtorque6709
      @amateurtorque6709  Před 3 lety

      I think they are a type of plastic composite, kinda looks like fabric. You would know if it was missing though.

      @@amateurtorque6709 I know it’s not missing, I just though that there should have been a plastic inner fender. The problem is, that snow sticks much better to this fabric inner wheel well and causes troubles with suspension travel...
