The way Jack phrases who he wants to be is very interesting. When he is talking about his dad, he essentially says "I don't want to be like my dad", except the language he uses is that he wants to be an improved version of his father, but not for himself, for his father. It's just a super interesting way to feel it, as I don't think most people who say something like this say it in such a way. It shows the love and respect he has for his dad. It's as though he doesn't just want to make his dad proud, but to be the type of man his dad would be proud to be. Sounds like he's doing a pretty good job too.

I feel very similar to the way your saying Jack feels about his father. Jack has since lost his father, and my dad is still relatively younger (50) and healthy. I don't really want to be "like my dad," but I do think that I'm very similar to him, for better or worse. I want to be better in many ways than he was in many situations, but I also want to be my own person in the end.

My best friend from school, we're 33yo so it's been a while, has a story that is very similar to Sean's with the older father and practically same details entirely on that subject. He lost his dad around start of winter and never said much about it until a couple weeks ago when he said "didn't realize how much I'd miss the old man 'til every time I'm about to call him."
His mood instantly got better, so I added "It's never going to stop being weird, especially when I have to restock the fridge so I can keep stealing his beer". And be be there for in the future whenever he needs to "talk" again.
Sean might not be thinking philosophical, might just be that he doesn't want him to be forgotten.

so he's worried about people thinking he's 'fake' when he puts on a character, but the problem is how he labels it. don't label it 'fake' label it 'performance'. you're an entertainer and yes you do have to put on a performance. fakeness is not genuine, performances are genuine and a work of art.

You know, I've seen Jack for a while now, since I was 12 o 13 maybe. And, I would say that he raised me in a since, the person that I am today is a reflection of the subtle things he said or did, for example the way he was so nice and kind, really made my young self try to be more like him. However I kind of shifted to other content as a teen and wasn't really present when he did all the tour stuff and interviewing apparently, etc. I'm currently watching some of his new videos (some past series like the detroit become human) and some streams and highlights of these past years. At first it was strange... I missed that green headed irish man who screamed like there wasn't a tomorrow. But it helped me understand the person, Sean. Seeing how, just like everybody, the phases that we go through as people change, and we as people also change. It helped me to try not to idealize the content creators (not only youtubers or streamers, but also musicians, actores, etc) that I admire and start treating them more like people, trying to be more empathic. Maybe in a couple of years Sean will have another hair color, and maybe he won't scream at all, but I'm thankful for the things I've learned from him, and hope that no matter what happens, he can be able to find love a truly peaceful and happy life. I hope everybody who reads this does.

This was a wonderfully strange video for me to watch. I adore Jack, I watch him all the time, and I really respect Dr. K and his aim to help gamers and streamers.
The strange part is that I never pictured the two doing a video together, but the wonderful is that Jack is so open that this would have been so helpful to him on so many levels, but also this will help so many people in such similar positions as Jack. I am also struggling with some of this sort stuff and I love how helpful the two of these came together. It is truly awesome. Thank you both ♡♡

When he said that his parents never really vocalized their love I literally felt that in my chest. Currently driving down the highway, and it's times like this that I always imagine that what if I die and I never tell them again. It really makes you think about life differently, especially when you never feel like you say it enough. The thought of, what if I never see them again going through your mind.
