The fun thing about being a brazillian reading this manga is that, whenever you see a politician getting a visit from akumetsu i don't even care about the context, i just know they deseved it.

We diss CGI anime but if Studio Orange got a hold of this it would be a visual masterclass
Agreed , they really respect animation so it would kick ass
It's funny that studio orange is always the exception. They could touch anything ever and make it good
@@puperman4208 That's because they are a CGI animation studio who specialize in the field, every other studio use CGI due to Time Constraints.

Ngl, I could see Netflix deciding to hire a Western Studio to make an Akumetsu anime, but honestly, i think that's the only way I could see it being made into an anime

Who's to say a studio in another country can't adapt it?
The costs to do so are incredibly high and it is not guaranteed to be a hit too, so best case scenario a minor studio could animate enough of the story to act as an inspiration to read the source material. The danger of getting legal suits placed on your studio for defamation etc deincentivize this investment though... rather pray that it stays without adaptation as it'll no question get turned down in its defining aspects aswell as/or pushed in current-socio-political directions it never had anything to do with and thereby ruined.

So it's a modern re-imagining of the count of monte christo.
That’s what I thought of as well. Pretty cool concept
Its from 2002 and not entirely, a modern re-imagining of count of monte christo is Gankutsuou
I wouldn't put it this way, they're similar but not for this one is the re-imagination of the other.
Montecristo is a (the) revenge story, akumetsu surely HAS revenge in it but it is more a "wipe the evil" story.
They both take the place of the Providence though
thats literally monte chirsto Gankutsuou lmao sci fi reimagining
Guys guys guys. He's just Thanos with no glove
Akumetsu really is a troll and is such a charismatic dude and is a savage againsr corrupt higher ups. Such a fun read ong.
Has it ever got an English release?
BTW, the last good comic I read was King of Spies ( 4 part series written by Mark Millar). A James Bond type agent finds out he has a year to live and he decides to take out corrupt presidents, billionaires, a religious leader and various super high up corrupt leaders who cause wars/ global suffering. Great art and very bloody.
Akumetsu kind of reminds me of a little known Marvel character called Cardiac who also unalives white collar criminals. I guess that's why Marvel hardly ever uses him. 🤔🤔
poc cardio-surgeon with a reactor artifical heart and vibranium skin, usually a Spidey irregular, first drawn by Erik Larsen.
there's a movie with this concept named "Jawan". Where the vigilante main guy not only punishes the corrupt politicians but also changes the systems which r corrupted.
watched it in theatres it was shit

Its a shitty remake combining atleast 3 south indian movies and straight up copying mersal and making it worse.
I think it’s possible that the Studio that animated Pluto might animate since they weren’t afraid to criticize the Iraq war.
You're the reason I read this manga and I don't regret it, it's awesome! I watched your video on it back then not knowing who you are, but I loved it, decided to read the manga myself and watch your videos because of it. I should probably reread it now that you made another video on it AND because I forgot quite a bit of the story (besides main plot points and such).
Just got the mask tattoo'd on my arm a few weeks ago. My favorite manga by a mile
22 seconds ago is crazy. But wait wasn't ur previous mask inspired from this manga?
Yes
The idea of commiting evil to get rid of evil reminds me of a group in a ttrpg, who aknowledge that they stain themselves, by their acts of evil, but if they do it to stop greater evil, they will reduce both the harm to the victims and prevent the evil-doer from furher staining themselves.
Anti-heroes are like that. That's pretty much the Punisher right there.
Code: Breaker does this also. If I remember correctly (since I read this one super waaay back like early 2009-ish), each of them follows their own version of "Code of Hammurabi". I'll use the protagonist as example, Rei Ogami's version of it is "An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, and evil for evil.".
100% going to read that, thank you for sharing it. i never would have heard about it otherwise
I like this one a lot. Despite this not really being a central point until the very last arc, I was invested into Hazama and his girl's relationship and it ended in a very sad way, that still keeps me wondering if that pod was a standalone, or she's practically a 4th now
This was the first manga I ever read, pretty sure it was your recommendation in an old video along with holyland and I still love both of them.
Akumetsu is the hero we all need.
Its for the best this series never gets a popular anime adaptation. The video essays from the "media literate" crowd would be unbearable for this.
We appreciate your insights on this matter.

Damn you brought back my last manga series i bought before i moved to the US in 2007. What a throwback. Zipang and this manga were my fave.
Hey, wanted you to know how much I appreciate your videos.
I remember watching your Akumetsu video from 3 years ago and got so intrigued that I started to Read it soon after.
Akumetsu is one of my favorite manga of all time and the Main Character so Special to me.
Without you I never would have experienced this Read. Keep Up your awesome work!
I've come to know about akumetsu in a past video of yours, red it and just loved it.
I just want to say thank you for this wonderful discovery
Such a good, fun manga, definitely recommended read. Deserves an anime for sure, but for obvious reasons will never get one ESPECIALLY after what happened to Shinzo Abe.
I have been a fan of this since it came out and was there day by day as it released.
I was literally just thinking about it yesterday.
Thank you for making this video
Man good timing, I just started reading Akumestu after watching Scamboli's Manga recommendation video.
Great video! Had no idea they were based on real people, this Mangaka is WILD dude. O_O
Oh my lord, I read this when I was younger and I was trying to find it again and failed to do so.
Damn someone made a manga of what is sitting my mind for the very long time.
In short, I completely understand the anger that author of this manga feels towards politicians
Bro you are an anti-vaxxer and flat earth believer might want to first educate yourself I am unsure how someone that does not believe in science will know anything about fixing society

Author is also a deeply sick individual if you read his other "works"
it read it a while back on your recommendation, really good series, i think it tapers off in the end somewhat, but the bulk of it is very satisfying. I wish this was a genre. 'Retribution'. I like seeing evil punished with little to no mercy lol.
It is actually a genre. In Japanese it's called "ざまぁ" (Zamaa), an abbreviation from "様を見ろ" what means "Serves you right". It is a pretty pupular tag on, for example, shousetsuka ni narou.
@Miraihi hmm ill do some research and see if there are any that looks good. Thanks
I can easily see the point why this can't be made into an anime and broadcasted on TV. Considering the current state of affairs in Japan, since their current government is not well received at all, it could cause quite a bit of controversy.
It can probably be adapted into a Netflix Original Anime, though.
Or done as an OVA like in the olden days.
You got me into this manga years ago
W video
never heard of this manga before. to ma list to read
thanks
You my dude are doing the lords work. I been an Akumetsu fan since 2014 and have always thought if it was ever made into an anime some people might learn some shit. Still my fav manga to this day and I share this with everyone every time someone askes for a recommendations.
So, i went and actually read all of Akumetsu after hearing the premise of it, and i gotta say, it bangs. Still reads like a manifesto, but a really banger manifesto.
Such a underrated manga...We could all use more Akumetsu in our life.
This has been one of my fave mangas for years :) reread this every year
Damn you bring back some memories. Loved reading this manga when I was younger.
I remember this series! Man i wish it would get more love

I read this manga after you recommended it a few years ago and it was a wild ride
I read this the first time you made a video about it and it's absolutely worth the read
This feels like if Garth Ennis wrote a manga and I'll definitely check it out. Thanks for the amazing recc!
I read this for the 1st time 15 years ago. For years Akumetsu mask was for me a symbol on how good and thought provoking a manga could be. I’m glad to find other people love this as much as I do
The chemistry teacher analogy, brings back memories 😂
Bro glad I stayed to watch this video, def gonna read it now.
Finally!!! Someone talks about Akumatsu. I read this Manga back in 2018. And I was genuinely sad that no one was talking about this series. You bring up a good point about how this Hidden Gem of a manga basically went into obscurity while there's so many by the numbers isekai, fantasy, and shonen anime being shoveled out by anime studios these days.
got it all at Lucca Comics some years ago. I was so happy that it was printed in my country!
FINALLY someone is talking about this manga
Story so interesting I had to stop mid video and go read the manga before coming back. I can confirm this truly is amazing
I read this years ago I think I was still in high school and it still holds up to this day. One day I hope to spread the knowledge of Akumetsu and other older anime content someday. It challenged you to think and a pod light novel to read is Reverend Insanity if you understand the undertones.
I cannot remember how long ago it was that i read this.
It is also my favorite. Thanks for the suggestion all those years ago.
Damn Akumetsu is epic. Especially the Systema scene hits hard. Emotional as well.
Happy seeing this old gem getting some love! Still is one of my favourite manga of all time
I love this series, and thank you for making this video 😁.
I read and finished this about a month ago. My friend recommended it to me, and I recommended it to my cousin. There are now 3 more Akumetsu fans in this world. Let's make some more fans 👍
Coolest terrorists ngl
Shou is gonna show em
Great video. I think an adaptation of that is only viable IMHO if not just the violence is toned down but if the corrupt government/business/criminal group does not resemble real-people and/or done in a very cartoonish way (Mr. Robot comes to mind). Also, feels like this manga feels part of the overall extreme stuff coming out of Japan at that (Battle Royale & Ichi the Killer for example) even if the discontent and disillusionment with the way democracy works in Japan (or in other places, just can pick one country) continues but has increased. They would rather do something more akin to Eden of the East or using something else as base (like Shin Gojira did)
Wow, I never even thought someone would review this manga. I read Akumetsu waay back when I was in highschool and I am entering my 30s. It was for me, one of the most unforgettable read that I have ever done.
I spent the whole night reading all the chapters in one sitting thus missing school the next day. It was year 2009. I've re-read it a couple more times during all these years. One of the best manga ever.
If i have to say , naoki urasawa and others mangaka did a great work on decoding Matrix and many stuff
looks cool! definitely will read
I read this years ago. We definitely need some adaptation.
Akumetsu rocks! The ending was a bit depressing though.
Akumetsu is a damn masterpiece. It's cathartic in the best way, while having a good story, art, and characters. I binged it over the course of a weekend and i loved nearly every second of it.
Second I saw that thumbnail I recalled this entire story only read it once when it was being serialized and scanlated but damn was it a trip.
Day 3 of asking for an updated top 100 anime/manga list
I've always been amazed that the amazing team that made this somehow also made the godawful Wolf Guy series.
The masked man is the reason I read Akumetsu, and I'm forever grateful.
Hello The Masked Man. If you have interest in Akumetsu there's a brazilian comic called "O Doutrinador", The Indoctrinator, were a brazilian federal agent gets tired of corruption after a personal tragedy related to it, so he goes full John Wick on corrupt politicians and business people in Brazil. It got both a movie and a TV series. You might like taking a look at it.
Akemetsu. A name I hadnt thought of or heard of in years
I am glad people are finding this absolute hidden gem of a manga. I remember reading it a few years ago.
I heard of this before but damn, didn’t know they were meant to be real
This is by far the best vigilante manga I've ever read. I remember stumbling into this over a decade ago while I was looking for stuff to read after a golgo13 marathon. I found Dendrobytes, another gem, and... THIS.
Will you do a video on Western Comics? I recall you saying you would make a video on Kingdom Come Superman and I'd like to see your take
This is one of the first manga I fervently read, I was looking for physical copies and sadly couldn't get any.
When I first read this it was around 2007-2008. It had a lot of angry people against it too because the characters looked way too much like the real life politicians they were based/modeled after.
I remember certain scans had info pages about the situation of Japan and how certain people made it worse.
Any thoughts on doing a video about Gantz?

Akumetsu was amazing, and so appropriate for today's political climate.

I read this as a teen and it completely captivated me. I never knew they used real politicians that just elevates it even further for me 😭🤣
