    With borders to the Isle of Man starting to open up for the summer season, I spent a very enjoyable wet and overcast week visiting the island, including enjoying trips on the dinning train from Sunday lunch and a Thursday evening Pie and Mash train. In the video we see the railways three operational locomotive operating between Douglas and Port Erin on service trains and dinning trains.
    Locomotives Featured in Steam:
    No. 4 Loch (Beyer, Peacock & Company Works No. 1416 of 1874) - Fresh from overhaul
    No. 13 Kissack (Beyer, Peacock & Company Works No. 5382 of 1910).
    Manx Northern Railway No. 4 (IOMR No. 15) Caledonia (Dübs & Co, Glasgow Works No. 2178 of 1885)
    Locations include Douglas station, The Nunnery, Keristal Cutting & Summit, Port Soderick, Santon, Ballasalla, Castletown, Ballabeg, Colby and Port Erin. In the museum of Port Erin we see No. 1 Sutherland (Beyer, Peacock & Company Works No. 1253 built 1873) and No. 6 Peveril (Beyer, Peacock & Company Works No. 1524, built 1875)
    Footage from the Isle of Man Steam Railway on Saturday 14th, Sunday 15th, Monday 16th, Thursday 19th and Friday 20th August 2021.

    A] I would love to revisit the Kingdom of Man and do more on the surviving railways. And B] to have seen the system of old in all it's glory before the closures and retrenchments.....

    They used to do package trips to the Isle of Man, but you never see them advertised now. It would be nice if they did this again. Winifred Thompson, Lisburn, Northern Ireland.

    Interesting that, as Man is of course Sodor's sister island, these engines have never appeared either in the works of Awdry or in the subsequent TV productions. What characterful little engines those Beyer Peacocks are.

      Isle of Man is the UK's Paradise Island in many ways. Viking as opposed to Norman (Feudal) governance. One reason to hate the Ancient French Elite (never the French People who I admire)

    A beautifully shot and edited video -congratulations. This brought back many happy memories of the four consecutive years I visited the IOM in the 1960s when it was possible to ride the whole system. I would by a weekly rover ticket and spend my days on the railway. I got to know some of the footplate crew who would give me illicit rides on the loco. They were very friendly and tolerated a railway mad teenager who constantly pestered them!

    Hi I remember when the railway used to go to the north of the Island Ballaugh sometimes the loco had to reverse before it go forward,it would be nice if it could be restored to go North.

    We can pretty much confirm that "Hutchinson" is the real Thomas, since they put that cute face on him every year at Christmas from what I heard.

    I do enjoy a Manx railway video so want to get over there what are the current restrictions/rules for travelling over there?

    • @preservedrailway
      @preservedrailway  Před 2 lety +1

      Have to be fully vaccinated to travel to the island and have to complete an online form + landing card in advance, then no restrictions once over there.

    How many miles/km of track does this railway run?

  • @ironhorsethrottlemaster5202

    That whistle is horrific talk about eardrum splitting why don't you Brits have cool son and whistles like American steam locomotive whistles instead of these high-pitched pathetic screeching headache-inducing whistles

    • @shanewalters2565
      @shanewalters2565 Před 2 lety

      Hey, don't be rude

    • @proudyorkshireman7708
      @proudyorkshireman7708 Před 2 lety +1

      Because when you hear a high pitch whistle you know to get out of the way as a train is coming and when you hear a deep whistle like the American locomotives then you know it’s lunch/ home time at the many factories that were across the country

    • @MrNoUsername
      @MrNoUsername Před 2 lety +2

      There’s no cause to be rude. We all have our likes and dislikes but it’s not worth complaining about such a small thing. The uploader just wants to film trains and upload it for people online to see, that’s it
      You like American steam locos? That’s fine. Watch videos about American steam engines, it’s that simple….
