Hi Fil, Dudarai is a Kazakh folk song. Dimash posted on his Instagram account recently saying that he rearranged the song for his performance on CCTV. Dimash has sang this song in its original format a few times in the past. Once with his sister Raushan and the other time during the Universal show on CCTV three years ago. I really like this new arrangement. Aside from his great singing skills and wonderful voice , the piece showcases his artistry and ability for music arrangement.
I'm SO HAPPY to see you with us Dears and Dimash again 🎉🎉❤❤ He is constantly working hard to give us a surprise with each performance 🤗🤗.
P.S. You have seen him at the piano - he played the piano in "Adagio" on The Singer in another blue suit 💙💙.

Thank you. That is the Dombra at the beginning. 'the heart of Kazakhstan', the instrument that is in almost every home. The Kobyz is what was played at the beginning of 'Stranger' and it is an ancient instrument. This is a traditional Kazakh folk song and Dimash does a gorgeous vocal at the beginning singing it traditionally. Then Dimash goes crazy jazz!! So fun and a new genre for Dimash. We saw Dimash playing the piano back in 2017 on 'I Am Singer' singing 'Adagio'.
Dimash sang this same folk song a few years ago in a duet with his younger sister Raushan. Love this Jazzy modern rendition that he made. Loved it. 🥰

This is a traditional Kazak folk song (he's already sung it several times once with his sister) that Dimash has arranged is this jazzy/funk maner because he can, he's a genius! Dimash has been playing piano for over 24 years. He learned piano when he was a small little boy! You obviously haven’t scene all of Dimash’s videos. He plays piano in a couple of them. He plays the piano at the beginning of “Adagio”. Which he sang during the competition “I am Singer”! 😊

I couldnt agree more, Fil - theres just something undefinably special happens when Dimash sings in his native tongue, the beautifully poetic language of Kazakh, that just blows me away - there's a reason why we both have «Samaltau» as our favourite Dimash song, after all, with the stripped-back Tokyo Jazz Festival version being our two's favourite performance from him - like, ever!
I've heard him sing this more than a century's old folk song a few times, including as a duet with his sister, and acapella too IIRC - but his tone in the traditional part here is so much more rich and full than before, its crazy - I mean, how can a voice that's already perfect keep getter and better and then better some more?!
So when he switched it up into this funky jazz-like version, I've gotta admit that first time around I wasn't altogether sure I liked it so much - to call it a departure from the original would be somewhat of an understatement, after all! Now however, I just can't stop singing it around the house - he really is a musical genius, our boy!

They take their culture, traditions seriously in that part of the world, Kazakhstan as well, some songs not " venerated* but close. That's why she stopped short and then laughed. That's a dombra Fil. He's been playing piano since he was 6 yrs old. He normally doesn't play and sing, but when he does, it's phenominal. And he is definitely aging like a fine wine.
I'm not Kazakh, but no, Dudarai is not traditionally played jazzy. Dimash has sung Dudarai before in the traditional manner, which sounds like more the beginning. Great reaction.

Dimash began this in the traditional way and then went into this fabulous jazz/funk version, which he probably arranged himself. I know he studied Jazz in College, so it's great to hear him do this genre and, as usual, to perfection!
I think you have seen Dimash play piano before, when he did, Adagio on Singer in China. He wore a blue suit for that too. He plays about 7 instruments as well as imitating some with his voice.
There is a video of him singing the traditional version of this with his sister.
