  • In this episode, I unlock an absolute paradise in Madagascar. The west coast is incredibly beautiful and a paradise for enduro motorcycles! Thick sand, dunes, but none of that is a problem if you have a powerful, light bike and I am loving it. To top it off, I get to go on one of the local sailboats and experience some local fisherman's life - what a magical place...

About 2 years ago, I accidentally came across an Itchy Boots video. A year ago, I finished watching every episode. 9 months ago, I left on my own motorcycle trip, encouraged by what I had seen through Noraly's eyes. 6 months ago, I decided I was never going back home to Canada. 1 month ago, I bought my new home in the country of Belize, my trusty Harley Davidson parked by my side. To say Noraly had a major impact on my recent life's decisions would be a gross understatement. I have never been happier...

It's actually the opposite. Very few tourists spend any time in Antananarivo, Tamatave or Majunga. They stage through these places to stay at national park eco-lodges and look at lemurs or baobabs. The Italians have direct charter flights from Milan to Nosy Be and stay put in the resorts there, without setting foot on the main island. But you're right, virtually every TV documentary focuses on wildlife, primitive infrastructure and grinding poverty. A bit like this series, really.

It's a pity that so many comments are just people's opinions about whether the people of Madagascar are better off in their simple life, or if they are poorly off and suffering, or is there an under-current of drug use, violence and abuse. If someone comments that it looks idyllic they are immediately shot down in flames. True is that these opinions are by people who have on the whole, no real experience or knowledge, only what they "learn" from the internet. My (rather over laboured) point is that these people watch Noraly's amazing videos and all they can do is flaunt their own ego, to demonstrate to one another that they are right and the other is wrong. To all those, like me, who appreciate the wonderful cinematography, the great story telling and the incredible hard work that's required to produce these videos (600+ and counting), I salute you..!

She shows us what she sees and leaves it to us to access but we should not in turn comment publicly in judgement because Noraly didn't and most likely the comment will be wrong. The vivid colors in each landscape, interactions with the people, just puts you right there almost. After battling through sand all day, past amazing scenery with those jaw-dropping baobab trees, you've shown close to half a million of us a part of the world, and the amazing folk like Giano and his crew who live there, that I couldn't even imagine. Thank you. Again. And Didier... what an absolute legend. Fighting through it all to keep up with you on that underpowered little motorcycle. All round awesomeness!
