Living off the Grid, Jake and Nicole try to build their long term DIY Yurt Kitchen using an alaskan chainsaw mill with trees and logs from their own property! It's time to grow an off grid garden and build off-grid wilderness raised bed garden beds for free using materials onsite. We will be using raw logs to build the raised beds and bark to sheet mulch the bottom of the beds in order to prevent weeds etc. Nicole organizes the spices and food in the new kitchen and Jake sets up and discusses the most important solar panels and lithium ion batteries they are using for electricity and to power their off grid life! The information is well presented, with color photos throughout. As was noted in a previous review, though some dimensions are given, the complete plans must be ordered elsewhere. I ordered the plans for the gambrel shed and did notice a few discrepancies between the book and plans however.
I haven't caught every vlog, but when I do, I'm always in awe of what you've done and how far you have gotten since the beginning. At my age, I couldn't even begin to do what you've done! Yes, curtains on rods with ringlets so they slide to open. Like shower curtains do. The rods can be straight branches and the ringlets can be vines tied in a circle. Tie-died curtains.

I am in a similar climate in NW coastal area of Oregon so I'm excited to see what you grow in your garden!! If you want to try nectarines, I can recommend one variety I found that can survive & produce healthy fruit (even in temperate rainforest!) - it is called kreibich nectarine, you won't regret planting it!! Hey Jake and Nicole :) ! Just an idea, but I would love to know more about the legality of living of grid in the 'Canadian Rainforest' as Jake put it. Obviously you are a near a town but do you still have to concern yourself with municipal/state laws mostly in connection with the property you own. Any information you guys could share would be helpful to people whom are interested in going off grid. Perhaps a Q/A video for us.. thanks for the good content and keep enjoying life :) !

Every time I watch your episode’s I dream of selling my house in Vancouver moving up island and starting a new life living off the grid. absolutely love the new kitchen. it looks great. Jake i have to say i agree with you about teaching kids early. most people that actually get to know me are left dumbfounded by the breadth of knowlege I have but I was a freak for searching out knowlege since I first learnt to read. My grandfather was the same and though he was self taught in everything was often consulted by "qualified" engineers. All it really takes though is an inquisitive mind. All kids have that but in most with the education system and the media and other "authority" figures in their lives that gets put out by the time they reach adulthood if not teens. You are doing something I am trying to work towards
