  • Arizona's COOLEST Activity! Salt River Tubing HIGHLIGHTS 2022!
Floating down the Salt River is my favorite thing to do in Arizona. Every single time I have been to the river it has been a blast. I have been with friends, family, and co-workers. The Salt River is a great way to experience Arizona and get to experience some water. The river is nice and cool, even though it may be 120 degrees outside. Wild horses are normal in Arizona, and there is a good chance you will see some when you float down the Salt River. I would say I see horses about 50% of the time. If you see other wildlife, that's an added bonus.
The river is extremely fun, but it also leads to a lot of sunburns and lost items. For example, I HEAVILY applied sunscreen everywhere, or so I thought. The one spot I missed ended up having a horrible sunburn. The sun on the river is no joke. Parts of your body are exposed that typically don't see as much direct sunlight. For example, shins, feet, knees, and thighs get blasted as you lay on top of your innertube. Additionally, I would leave valuables in your car because there are no lockers and tubes get flipped over here and there. I've been on numerous trips where people lost keys, cell phones, etc. WARNING: The rocks as you exit at the end are very hot, like hotter than you are thinking. It is very painful to walk on them without footwear. Be sure to bring water shoes or flip flops just so you aren't crying when you exit the river at the end!
There are two drop off points. The longer trip typically takes about 6 hours, while the shorter trip is around 4 hours. If it rained recently or if there is more water in the river than usual, those times will be dramatically shorter. Prepare for a long trip and be sure to have enough water. I always take some snacks as well. I recommend stopping at least once at the cliffs. There is a beach area where you can pull your tubes or kayaks, and watch people jump from the cliffs. The cliffs can be tricky to climb up and obviously present a danger. If you are out of shape or have had too much to drink, you may want to sit back, relax, and watch other people jump off the cliffs. Once you leave the cliffs, your trip is almost over.
All in all, if you are going to do one outdoor activity in Arizona, this would be the activity I recommend the most!

Appreciate the video! Excited for our trip next month. Can I ask what were the dates that you went? Also, do you know the best month to float out of June-Aug and what time of the day it gets busy? We want to go when the crowd is out. Thanks in advance.

Thank you! Dogs are definitely allowed in the river, as far as on the bus I’m not totally sure. Dude with the dog wasn’t part of our crew, so not sure if his was a service dog or not. Tried calling the rental place, but it was an automated messaging system.
