    Romans 9:13 is one of or maybe THE MOST misquoted passage of the Bible. Calvinists and black Hebrew Israelites love to quote it to explain their theology. In light of the Bible as a whole, what does it actually mean? Sam explains.

      Agreed.

    • @fchevan1
      @fchevan1 Před měsícem

      @@imperialkingdom4821 I let the scripture speak for itself. Obadiah does not state that YAH hated Esau/Edom (it’s implied if you know scripture). Look at the prophets Malachi’s writings:
      2- “I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob,
      3- And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.
      3- Whereas Edom saith, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD hath indignation for ever.” (Mal 1:2-4)
      He has indignation toward them FOREVER. Furthermore, Esau hated his brother (Genesis 27:41) and despised his birthright (Genesis 25:34) and knowingly disobeyed his father (Genesis 28:8-9; 36:2) by mixing with the daughters of Canaan.
      YAH knew all of this and Esau hated first. The judgment is fitting. Jacob’s seed was judged because of their disobedience, Esau’s seed was not judged because of disobedience because he and his seed was not chosen to be given the law. YAH chasteneths His sons and who He loves (Deu 8:5, 2Sam 7:14, Pro 13:24, 19:18, 23:13). Therefore Esau was not corrected.

    In conclusion, Paul's argument in Romans 9 must be viewed in the context of his broader theological discussion, culminating in Romans 11. While Romans 9 highlights God's sovereign right to show mercy and harden hearts, it is Romans 11:32 that clarifies God's intention: to extend mercy to all humanity. The example of Pharaoh demonstrates that God's actions, even when involving judgment, are ultimately aimed at revealing His power and leading people to recognize Him as Lord. Therefore, God's mercy is not limited to a select few but is available to all, reflecting His desire for all people to come to the knowledge of Him and be saved. This interpretation aligns with the inclusive nature of God's grace and the overarching biblical theme of His redemptive plan for all creation.

      Pharaoh was an individual elected for destruction. Sam is tap dancing. “Not all Israel is Israel” is a reference to individuals not redeemed although they are a part of natural Israel.

    • @Baqheera
      @Baqheera Před 2 měsíci +3

      @@martelljhixson The phrase “Not all Israel is Israel” comes from Paul's writings and emphasizes the distinction between natural descent from Abraham and being part of the true, spiritual Israel, which is defined by faith in Jesus Christ rather than just physical lineage. Paul explains that true membership in God's people is not determined by physical descent but by being part of the promise given to Abraham, which is fulfilled in Jesus Christ. This implies that being part of Israel (God's chosen people) is more about spiritual identity and faith than about ethnicity or genealogy.
      The example of Pharaoh shows that God’s will and purpose are paramount, and He has the right to use individuals for His greater plan. This serves to highlight the broader concept of divine sovereignty over salvation and judgment.
      The idea that "Not all Israel is Israel" further underlines that God’s true people are defined by faith and promise rather than by ethnic or physical heritage. This aligns with the New Testament teaching that salvation through Christ is open to all, Jew and Gentile alike, who have faith.
      In summary, these concepts emphasize that God's plans and purposes transcend human understanding and expectations. Divine sovereignty means God has ultimate authority over all creation, including human destinies. Additionally, being part of God's people (true Israel) is defined by faith and adherence to God's promise rather than mere physical descent. These teachings encourage believers to trust in God’s plan and to recognize that true membership in God's family is through faith in Jesus Christ.

      @martelljhixson Před 2 měsíci +4

      @@Baqheera you’re ignoring the clear ramifications of the statement and it’s impact of the point Paul made in Romans 9. God’s Sovereign plan extend to the salvation of individuals. Read Romans 9 again. It’s clear that God had destined individuals to salvation and some for destruction.

    • @Baqheera
      @Baqheera Před 2 měsíci +5

      @@martelljhixson While I understand your perspective on Romans 9, it's essential to interpret this chapter in the context of the entire section, Romans 9-11, where Paul discusses God's sovereign plan for both Jews and Gentiles.
      Romans 9 does indeed highlight God's sovereignty and the example of Pharaoh illustrates God's right to show mercy or harden hearts according to His purpose. However, this isn't the whole picture. Romans 11:32 provides crucial insight, stating, "For God has bound everyone over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all." This verse suggests that God's ultimate intention is to extend mercy to all humanity, not just a select few.
      Moreover, the notion that "Not all Israel is Israel" underscores the distinction between natural descent and spiritual membership in God's people. This supports the view that God's people are defined by faith in Christ, not merely by ethnic or physical lineage. Paul's argument culminates in the inclusive message of God's redemptive plan, which is available to both Jews and Gentiles who believe.
      In summary, while Romans 9 addresses God's sovereign choices, it is Romans 11 that clarifies His overarching desire for all to receive His mercy. God's actions, even when involving judgment, are ultimately aimed at revealing His power and leading people to recognize Him as Lord, thereby extending His grace to all who have faith.

    But know ye that the Lord hath set apart for himself the godly; The Lord will listen when I call to Him.
    Be afraid and do not sin. Talk to your heart on your bed and be at peace. Sela.
    Offer sacrifices to righteousness and trust in the Lord.
    Many say: Who will show us something good? Lord, raise the light of your face over us.
    You have filled my heart with joy more than when their grain and wine were growing.
    8 I will lie down in my room and sleep, because you, Lord, only give me a safe place to live.
    Psalm 1
    Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit on the throne of the contemptuous.
    But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and on his law he meditates day and night.
    And he shall be like a tree planted by streams of water, that bringeth forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also does not wither; and whatever he does will prosper.
    They are not wicked, but like chaff that the wind drives away.

Scripture says Jacob loved Rachel and Leah he hated, but we know he didn’t literally hate the mother of six of his sons: he did prefer Rachel to Leah, and that’s what the scripture is saying.

      Agreed. Calvin was against any sort of claim or attention. That's why the only ppl who refer to Reformed believers as "calvinsts" are those who don't understand Reformed theology because Reformed theology is Biblical theology. Further, the biggest advocates and believers of Reformed theology are well versed in the original languages and historical literature. Lastly, Reformed theology isn't based on Romans 9, it's based on the entire Bible. For example, John 6:44, Deuteronomy 10:14-15; Psalm 33:12; Psalm 65:4; Psalm 106:5; Haggai 2:23; Matthew 11:27; Matthew 22:14; Matthew 22:22; Matthew 22:24; Matthew 24:31; Luke 18:7; Romans 8:28-30; Romans 8:33; Romans 11:28; Colossians 3:12; 1 Thessalonians 5:9; Titus 1:1; 1 Peter 1:1-2; 1 Peter 2:8-9; Revelation 17:14; Mark 13:20; John 15:16; Acts 13:48; Acts 18:27; 1 Corinthians 1:27-29; Philippians 1:29; Philippians 2:12-13; Ephesians 1:4; Ephesians 2:10; 1 Thessalonians 1:4-5; 2 Thessalonians 2:13-14; 2 Timothy 1:9; James 2:5; Revelation 13:8; Revelation 17:8.

    First, I am FAR from a Calvinist, but it's very important to read Obadiah 1:10-12 and Ezekiel 25:12-13. In short, Edom stood by and allowed Israel to be plundered. It could also be seen that God loved Esau less as a nation because of what they did and how they mistreated Israel.

    • @rapturebound197
      @rapturebound197 Před 2 měsíci +4

      Bingo 🎯. I was just about to post a comment referencing the exact same passage from the Prophet Obadiah, and I saw that you had already done so. 👍
      I do agree that Esau represents a nation. I agree that when scripture says "Jacob I loved but Esau I hated," does not mean God did not love Esau. I agree that what the text is stressing to us is Gods' plan is to work thru Jacob, and by extension, the nation of Israel.
      I am a 4 point Calvinist and Sam is disingenuously misrepresenting the Calvinist position. I'm certain it's not difficult to find a few bone headed "Calvinist," who make outlandish statements but to paint ALL Calvinist with the same brush would be like picking a few totally bone headed Catholics (which a blind monkey could do) and saying they represent Sam's position.

    9And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the mount of Esau may be cut off by slaughter.
    10For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.”
    "18And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it.”

      Contextually, God never hated Essau from the onset and to the end as Sam explained. The wiping out of Edom as stated in Obadiah, is a result of the violence they allowed, and perpetrated on Israel (Jacob). Interestingly enough, you skipped verses 11-14, clearly stating what resulted in God's judgment on them. I don't see any scripture twisting here. I think you got it twisted. I hope this helps.

    • @fchevan1
      @fchevan1 Před měsícem +3

      Agreed. Obadiah is clear.
      It’s doesn’t fit the prevailing Christian doctrine so hate must mean something other than hate, like “less love”.
      Nevermind that Esau despised his birthright (Gen25:34) and swore to kill his brother Jacob (Gen27:41-42), and took wives of the canaanites knowing father Isaac disapproved (Gen36) as well as the Ishmaelites.
      I will accept what the scriptures say. YAH hated Esau because Esau hated his brother, hated his birthright, hated his father, and mixed into the nations who would then waste away his brother while he stood by. If there is any person or nation that YAH should hate, it should be Esau/Edom.
      2 Esdras 6:9

Instead it’s the epitome of being condescending and patronizing. I had trouble staying on track with what was being taught because I felt so uncomfortable for the guy off camera. Not trying to judge the heart of the guy teaching, just hoping to help other Christians be aware of how they come across towards unbelievers. We often tend to put off an air of arrogance in knowing the right answer, and miss the point of putting on display the loving heart of Christ. I'm a Calvinist, I agree with you, but I'm still a Calvinist. This verse had nothing to do with Esau's salvation. There may have been misused of that verse, but not me.

      I think that the mechanism of election is what God employs for all callings in general whether those callings be to offices for instrumentality or to salvation.
      God's sovereign right to "elect" is the point...not necessarily what we are being elected to or for. God is invincibly good. God isn't good just because he does good, God predetermines "goodness" and transcends the legal and moral constraints placed upon creation.

      You live in a program and you are a program yourself. The Bible is prophecy, and prophecy is the announcement of the things which are going to pass, literally telling you what’s going to happen.
      Before Esau and Jacob were born, and neither had done anything good or bad God told Rebecca the older will serve the younger, and that they will come to strife with one another, even before they were born.
      Look at yourself, you have been aging since you came out of the womb, because you are a biological program. You want to deny your psychological programming ? No problem, study the world outside of scripture, they speak of the same thing. Do the bloodmoons and eclipses happen at random or were they established like clockwork, like a program ?
      And then animals, aren’t they designed inside out, each according to their own kind and species ? Aren’t they predictable because of it ? Doesn’t it reveal they are programs inside out ?
      Jesus tells Peter that before the rooster shouts he will have denied him 3 times, not because Jesus foresaw anything, but because he created the whole thing, including what people would say and do.
      It’s all a program, it’s rigged.
      People talking about Judas being a devil ? When we read that « the devil entered Judas », or again, reading Isaiah 45:7 God actually says « I am also the devil and there is no one else », or again when you read Job, and the Satan supposedly destroys everything in Jobs life, but then God comes and schools Job about ho life ought to be ; or simply, isn’t God and the devil the same ? Both invisible and eternal ?
      You see, you people talking out of your arses know nothing, you do not know the scriptures nor do you understand what you claim to believe in. Calvinist ? What’s that sheet ? Just another sectarian type of belief, another corrupted way of distorting the truth, that’s all it is. The truth is before everyone, each and everyday. But you need a mind and consciousness of self to understand the whole picture.
      God programmed everything since the beginning of time, no one becomes the antichrist nor the Christ by merit, it was simply established that way by God alone, and unless you understand the very truth I’m talking about, then you’re just living a lie and an illusion on top of it.

      I have different theory on the ‘ two nations in the womb ‘ and ‘ Esau being hated ‘.
      It has to do with Esau being very different physically, he was a ‘ ruddy, earthy man ‘ , he had ‘ red hair ‘, hairy like an animal , and they had to use animal skins to fool Isaac.
      It goes back before the flood to the Genesis 6 account where the Watcher angels initiated the hybridization of angels and humans to corrupt the bloodline to the Messiah. The whole world, every human person was corrupted in some amount by the time of Noah and the flood. When the sons of Noah were to find wives there were no genetically pure women left on earth and they were to find as pure as possible of wives to repopulate the earth after the flood. All three wives were carriers of some of the corrupted DNA of the Nephilim , the wife of Ham being most prevalent as Ham begat Canaan who was the father of most of the evil giant Canaanite tribes. Even the wife of Shem who turned out to be most pure and would carry the lineage to the Messiah still was carrier of a small recessive gene of the hybrids which down the generations surfaced in the person of Esau.
      Jacob and Esau were fraternal twins both from the seed of Isaac and two separate eggs of Rebecca. One egg was pure ( Jacob ) and the other was containing DNA of the ‘ seed of the serpent ‘ from the family of Shem’s wife from before the flood.
      That was why Esau, even though he was first born could not be allowed to be in the lineage to the Messiah. That is why he had to be cheated out of his birthright.
      Another reason for God to ‘ hate ‘ Esau was as part of that evil blood line he represented the plan to prevent the coming of the Messiah that would save mankind.
      The bad part of the story is where Isaac was all in favor of putting him in position to ruin the pure bloodline. Jacob and his mother Rebecca orchestrated plans to keep Esau from being the chosen one.
      A similar situation occurred in the life of Judah, who was also in the lineage to Messiah but he didn’t take the correct path and married a Canaanite woman who was obviously of bad bloodline to be inserting in the Messianic lineage. Judah found a good pure blood wife for his sons but had failed to do so for himself. The Lord had to remove the first two sons before the lineage could be corrupted and would have had to remove the third when he was old enough to marry Tamar, but Tamar was wise to the situation and bypassed the Canaanite son of Judah and arranged to bear a child directly from Judah, thus keeping the lineage pure.
