  • The SRT Tuned Durango R/T Tow N Go is an excellent compromise for those who want great performance and handling, but need to tow 8,700 pounds!
    Engine Adventures strives to explore and test the AWD and 4WD systems of all crossovers, SUVs, and pickup trucks. To do this we test vehicles in real world environments in a way that allows viewers to cross shop and explore any vehicle they may be interested in learning about.

    Pretty good video, but I feel you missed the performance gauge modes under the Vechicle tab in the big screen.
    IMO its extremely cool to have those gauges and readout info available regardless of mode.

    This is such a beautiful truck and they ride really well. Mind you the only one I've ridden and had the v6 in it but I was impressed with that imagine the V8 is probably really wonderful ... Gimme Jelly Donut

      The SRT (or in this case the R/T Tow N Go) ride pretty stiff, but a family member has a Limited Durango with the V8 and it rides really nice. 🍩

    Excellent (and practical) review. However, you might want to disclose that your 0-60 timings were performed at altitude, not at sea level, where sub-six-second 0-60 is routine. I was pondering why your intervals were so long until I saw your separate towing video and caught the mountains in the background. And while I hate turbo-lag (which is why I bought a 5.7L Hemi) there is something to be said for the benefit of a turbo charger (or super charger) when driving a mile (or more) above sea level.
    Then again, I should have known your location once you mentioned finding the Gen-Y bracket, left there by The Fast Lane.

      Thanks for the tip, sometimes I feel like I'm being to repetitive, but most of my views aren't from subscribers, so I need to remember to be repetitive about things like elevation.

    Great Review. You’re so right about the horsepower it’s more closer to 400 in my opinion very fast for a truck that heavy.

      @EngineAdventures  Před rokem +2

      Thanks for watching! I believe this was the 3rd Durango I'd had (first the SRT, then the Hellcat), and I was surprised at how fast this thing was with a significantly lower rating than the other two.

    What have you been towing with it? I have been towing a 4200lb dry camper and its done really well so far compared to my previous 2015 V6 durango.

    With these awd FCA vehicles, your quickest 0-60 time will come from NOT brake torqueing. The longer you brake torque the slower your time is going to be. The quickest accelerations are usually done by smoothly, but quickly, flooring the accelerator pedal, and in track mode (sport mode if there's no track mode available). Traction control off as well. This also applies to vehicles equipped with launch control. Launch control in awd FCA vehicles (stellantis now) are honestly a gimmick in my opinion. I have owned 3 Jeep SRT's and in my personal tests, all 3 have been quicker without brake torqueing and/or launch control every single time. The only situation I can think of that would benefit from a brake torqued launch is if the vehicle is equipped with a turbocharger. In my opinion, when you brake torque these vehicles, I feel as if the computer controlling the transmission will protect the transmission from extra wear and tear from its built in torque management settings. When the computer detects extra load on the transmission it will decrease the power as much as it needs to based off calculations. Even with vehicles equipped with launch control, while in launch mode, they still have torque management controls built in to protect the drivetrain from the factory. I don't have hard evidence of this but I have tuned the ECM, ECU, TCM, TCU, etc. of a few vehicles back in the day and can tell you every modern car has torque management calculations built into them to prevent wear and tear of the drive components. It usually reduces engine power by reducing ignition timing. It's the only thing I can think of logically that would be happening in my personal scenarios. Sorry for the long comment but I'm 100% positive that if you tried the 0-60 again in the same spot without brake torqueing, you'd get your best time.

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  Před 3 lety

      Interesting, I've had better results brake torqueing despite a few commenters stating otherwise. I wonder if it depends on how long you brake torque, and since I'm at higher elevation that may affect it as well.

    The Suspension was very bad on the 2015 model damage fast no idea if that is Factory defect or what .. I hope thy fixit With 21 models.

    and honestly, the 3.6 pentastar version surprised me when i test drove it. enough power and v6 sound for majority of buyers. i still took the RT v8 with the blacktop, destroyer gray and red interior built. i skipped the tow n go cause its very pricey.

    What’s the fog light test?

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  Před 3 lety +1

      Many vehicles equipped with fog lights must have the headlights on in order for the fog lights to be on. If that is the case then they aren't actually fog lights, but an extra set of driving lights. To pass the fog light test the fog lights must be able to turn on with only the running lights on, no headlights.

    For sure dodge has underrated the 345 hemi on the durango just to give the srt 392 a fighting chance. Aint no way a 5300+lb suv is gonna have the lowest ratings out of all the mopar vehicles with the 345 hemi. Hp should be like 385 and tq well over 400 lb ft. 360 hp and 390 tq is too little for a vehicle this large.
    And another thing, dodge claims the rt with the tow and go package's top speed is 145 but the top speed of the regular durango is like 125 mph. It's to give the srt 392 a fighting chance since it tops out at 155 mph. Dodge dies fye same thing with the charger rt. It tops out at 130 mph but if you put the daytona package on, it now tops out at 150 mph

      @CoryW24 Před 3 lety

      @@donkeller6399 a tune will quickly fix that. The two models are virtually the same, save for the exhaust brakes and suspension adjustments.
      I've got the 21 RT, because it wasn't worth 5K for me to add the exhaust and brakes as I don't need that extra little bit of towing capability.
      I do agree though that the HP.is underrated. This thing would easily destroy my old 16 RT.

    • @donkeller6399
      @donkeller6399 Před 3 lety +2

      @@CoryW24 sure, but blows the warranty and stands alone. That tune you speak of (note, it's 135mph limit for T&G) has been done within the 5K value pricing, going WELL beyond SRT exhaust and Brembos: Bilstein active damps, SRT knuckles and underskirt bits, 10" wheels wrapped in 295 PZero's, Electronic Diff, simple spot-on 4 button calibration modes of Track, Sport, Snow- launches in 2nd gear in 50/50 split-and Tow (actually there are 5 modes with the default Auto) splitting drivetrain from 40/60 to 30/70 as well as managing input adjustments for steering, brake, throttle, suspension and yaw. All-in-all it's a stupid cheep price tag that I can roll in the shop if needed without being thrown in FSA jail for tampering. And no, the two models are not the same. I've owned a 2018 RT, thought for a second about an SRT, but smartly for me, bought the 21 T&G. Good and travels with your RT, Cheers.

    I'm dedciding between this and the Armada to tow a boat. With a smaller motor, heavier vehicle weight, and less gears, I'm surprised the Armada is significantly faster. No wannabe racing stripes needed😂

      For a 3-row SUV at 4,550 feet of elevation, I'd say it's not to bad. For what it is, it's a great performing vehicle. I've driven both the SRT and the Hellcat versions of the Durango and this R/T was nearly as fun as the other two.
