@@nimbinkwe3555 Very good reply. Point taken. But you have to understand that there's still a small problem of bad writing within the mod, unless the author really intended Kaidan to be incoherent. You see, the rebellion is far from "brainless". Actually, it's a one-time opportunity for Skyrim to become a sovereign nation in the short term, and an effective nation-state in the long. Just like Kaidan points out, the Empire has recently become unable to "take care of his own" (see 00:56), or, in other words, has recently lost its ability to maintain and expand its military and economic commitments abroad, which is key for the survival of any empire whatsoever (see "imperial overstretch"). What is weird is how Kaidan acknowledges this in such a simple (albeit intelligent) way, but then fails to realize that the rebellion IS A COROLLARY to the political hiatus that this phenomenon of "imperial overstretching" has left on the international system of Tamriel. You see, everytime a prevalent political presence, internal or external, becomes somewhat absent or weak in the political scene - and\or fails to fulfill the expectations and the needs of the weaker political entities bellow -, it creates this "opening" which can, and most undoubtedly will be, strategically seized by the opponents of said presence. In the case of TES V: Skyrim, Ulfric Stormcloack revealed to be a true war veteran and a brilliant strategist by challenging the High King in Solitude - in accordance with old nord traditions - and then by killing him with his Thu'um, at the best possible moment. He did this before the Thalmor could acquire significant influence over Skyrim and the other provinces under the administration of the Empire. He also did this at a time where the weakness of the Empire was most evident to the nords. He recognized that by killing Torygg with his Thu'um, and by resurrecting one of the oldest nord traditions, he would (re)awaken a national identity within the people of Skyrim, which could be deepened further once the worship of Talos was restored and through later political reform. Unlike what Kaidan said (namely that Ulfric was too shortsighted to rule; see 01:06), the "bear of Markarth" showed everyone how competent he was and also revealed his mastery in matters of symbolism and nord custom, which were always discouraged and ignored throughout the Empire’s rule, but were determinant during the civil war to further Ulfric’s ends in terms of legitimizing his claim to the throne. Moroever, Kaidan also asked “What’ll happen when all this is over?” and said that “Most of Skyrim’s fighting men and women will be dead or injured, there’ll be no so support from the Empire” (see 01:15), which, according to his view, is “Not a good way to be if the Thalmor decide to attack” (see 01:26). This is a very bad insight. Firstly, having “no support from the Empire” is kind of the point of being independent and autonomous, isn’t it? Secondly, just because Skyrim suffered significant losses from the civil war, it doesn’t mean that the Aldmeri Dominion will invade the province immediately after said war (doesn’t matter which side wins; there’s such a thing as geography and logistics), and the nords won’t be allowed any recovery time to “lick their wounds” and regain some military capacity. Even in that unfortunate outcome, a damaged Skyrim could still adopt guerilla tactics and make the best possible usage of the province’s mountainous topography against an invading, larger and less mobile army, in a way similar to that of the early natives of Asturias against the Romans. He makes a very good point about the Empire, though, and regarding the idea of a “domino effect” in the aftermath of Skyrim becoming independent. It reinforces this idea that the Empire is indeed going to crumble eventually and every single province in Tamriel will probably become the birthplace of independent nations.
