If the car does not have a turbo, it NEEDS a turbo! Am I wrong?

How did the advisor get a proper quote from the almighty parts dept based on the VIN for a turbocharger replacement if the vehicle is not equipped?? 😂

“Help me sell the job the customer keeps asking me questions” I say that all the time when I don’t understand or need to dubke check the diag..

The parts department would have questioned the turbo if they were asked to quote one in a non-turbo car. Something else is happening here.

I think the real question is why is the manager running a shop that makes the tech think its ok to do that? 🤔

I work as a tech in the powersports industry. Worked with a really sleazy tech who once told a customer his bike needed to have the carburetors rebuilt. The service advisor called the customer to give the diagnosis and estimate to repair the customer said he was confused as to how you could do a carb rebuild on a fuel injected bike ? Tech had to re-inspect the bike he was not proficient with fuel injection. He proclaimed that the bike needed an ECU at a cost of $1800. Customer ok'd the repair but said he wanted old parts. Tech installs new ECU which didnt fix the problem. After he struggled to find the cause of the poor running issue, he asked me what I thought the cause might be. I told him to see if the fuel pressure regulator was bad. Sure enough, that was the problem. I then asked Sleazy what was he gonna do now with an ECU that he couldn't return and customer that wanted his old parts ?
He cuckled as he shorted the old ECU out by sticking the wires into a wall outlet.

Ok, the turbo thing is a fireable offense, that’s absolutely ridiculous, I’ve been a tech, service writer, and now service manager. If a tech tells me “this is what’s wrong” and I know they haven’t looked at it, I say great then it should be super easy for you to prove it within the pre approved diag. Period, show me. It’s hard to do if you don’t know about cars, but you should ask them why as many times as you can without being obnoxious, you learn and they have to explain, that way you can explain to the customer and sell a job.

The turbo issue described in this vid is not something a writer should handle. A manager with the authority to fire someone is who should have dealt with it.

i feel bad for the manager because it sounds like she's is being held hostage by technicians because their are so few techs to go around. techs need to be held accountable just like everyone else.

I have a question. Have you seen dealerships, purposely misspell a email given from the client so that they can’t leave a bad review that could hurt their csi. I’ve seen this in multiple dealerships I’ve worked it, just wondering if I’m the only one.

I don't think I've seen this... but whoever is doing that is looking at the situation wrong from the start... set expectations from the start and over deliver the experience
