  • This is our first winter with our small green house. At night, the temperature will go down to the outside temperature (We haven't added heat yet). But during a sunny day, it can be 120F inside! Even when it is only 10F outside. As we are getting ready to start our seeds, I built a temp/pressure/humidity/Lux sensor to log the Greenhouse climate. We have manual ceiling vents, but we decided to add an automated gable fan and a fresh air vent. Since most small vents are for exhausting air, I designed / 3D printed an input louver vent.
    The 3D print files are located:
    www.prusaprinters.org/prints/...
    We used the following:
    * 12 inch thermostat controlled louver fan ( amzn.to/3kmiQQM )
    * 9'x12' Greenhouse ( amzn.to/36paYqy , www.farmtek.com/farm/supplies... )
    * Steel base ( www.farmtek.com/farm/supplies... )
    There are several other brand greenhouses that have gotten reasonable reviews:
    - Palram HG5612 Glory Greenhouse, 8' x 12', Gray ( amzn.to/2TBjIER )
    - Rion EcoGrow 2 Twin Wall Greenhouse, 6' x 12' ( amzn.to/2XrHHHJ )

    I have 20x25 ft. polysheet GH with cheapo box fan quite high at one end. Both fan screens are removed. I have high quality thermostat at 4ft high at other end to sense the GH temps. In summer when needed, the roll-up screens can be rolled up. Works well at mid-Vancouver Island

    Interesting video. It looks as if you're beginning to get the greenhouse dialed-in a bit. I hope to see an update on the greenhouse and what you'd do differently. I'm seriously thinking about a greenhouse just like this one.

    Nice video. I am using 2 of the 14" fans on either side of my 16'x32' high tunnel and they work as expected. Just a note for your info somethings I noticed while using them.
    The controllers will glitch out below freezing temps. There is also some logical programming issues with the way the controller works. In the programming you can set High Temp, Low Temp, High Humidity, Low Humidity but here is the catch.
    The humidity rises in my high tunnel at night as the temperatures go down. The problem I have is that I need to turn the fan manually to off at night so that they don't kick on and remove any warmer air that I may have in the greenhouse and adds to the possibility of frost on the crops.
    I am going to order the Type 67 controller as I think that has more functionality. But just wanted to let you know.

      Yes we found the same "glitch". It was 20F out and the controller said it was 130F and had the fan going! I emailed the company, but they never responded

    So glad you done this video, I just installed this same fan, but its cold here in mooresville and I am having trouble setting the fan correctly. I thought I set it to come on if it got over 80 degrees in there and have found it on at 36 degrees. Can you help tell me what I am possibly doing wrong? Thanks

    Hi, I am thinking of buying the fan on Amazon. My greenhouse does not have access to WiFi. Does the fan need WiFi to work? Great to see your setup. Thank you.

    Awesome video. I’m a few counties south in Putnam. Do you or how do you heat your green house at night?
    I just built a 12x7 greenhouse for my daughters. Plenty warm in the day, but becomes outside temp at night. TY

      Now that I have "instrumented" the greenhouse, I ordered a 1500W heater with a digital interface that allows you to set the temperature to 40F (amzn.to/2PqOf9h ). I will let you know how it works. It just needs to keep things above freezing.

      @@secretjourney4815 yes/no...I brought AC to greenhouse. I have the solar panels grid tied. I was also looking for an automated propane solution... but didn’t see one yet. I do have a mr buddy type heater I could manually light

      Short term use of propane would be fine. Long term use can cause Ethylene damage to your plants.
      Thanks for your great videos, and information.

    any reason why you didn't put the fresh air inlet vent down low?

  • @gdcartjr
    @gdcartjr Před 3 lety

    How do you keep the wind from just blowing through the vent when you don't want it to?

    • @SerendipitySue
      @SerendipitySue  Před 3 lety +1

      With the screen on the outside and the fact that the other mechanical vent is closed seems to handle it. We had 30mph wind gusts today and I went out and checked. There was no problem.

    Just came across your video, We are looking at adding a fan to our greenhouse, Can I ask what CFM and size your fan is? As well as the vent you printed, we were concerned that our inlet and exhaust sizes had to be equal or inlet be bigger not to cause too much pressure difference

    • @SerendipitySue

      The link to the fan is in the video description. I think it was 830CFM

      i also read that looks like you could need at least 3no, of those vents maybe 4no ? or reduce the size of by your exhaust fan

  • @donnareeves5894

    What happens if your exhaust fan is not running and it is windy enough outside to blow air in your small fresh air vent?

  • @pdmark311
    @pdmark311 Před 2 lety

    Wouldn't you want to put small weights on the back of the intake vent the wind doesn't blow cold air in less you have enough vacuum from the exhaust fan to force it to open

    Green houses can't get to 120 when it's snowing or what ever it is outside your green houses unless you have heat in the house
