Man, I know you said this hasn't been popular, but I love this build.
Finally a Fbody video 😪 lol
honey wake up theres new firebird content
39 minutes of Trans Am glory!
"Babe not right now....LsxMatt just uploaded"
finally the firebird 🤠
THE CONTENT WE"VE BEEN WAITING FOR :!!!!!
My Poor Firebird been on hold longer. I need to get it going
Heck yeah! Been waiting on some Third Gen content.
Nice to see you back on the Firebird again.. Thankyou ;-)
my trans am has been parked unmoved since 1993 . luv seeing you get yours on the road gives me incentive lol. thanks
Sweet, another V8 is brought back to life! Can't wait to see how sick it will perform after you're done with it.
So happy to see the T/A again and love the 80s montage music.😇🦅
Yes. We need more of these videos!!!!
You satisfied my OCD in ways I cannot describe with the cleaning of the tops of the pistons
I want more on this car!!!!
I have a 85 trans am with a vortec 350 making 400hp. I definitely get when your car dose not run u stop caring about finishing it. When you can drive your car anytime u want u feel more involved.
Matt, you have been such an inspiration! I am in the process of building my LS1 for my 4th gen. Love the content, keep it up!
I used the Lindy tool as well! I got an SS4 from GPI
Man, it sucks when you start a project & have to stop for a long period of time. Irl sucks sometimes. Good luck on the project. o7
Finally a trans am video!
This build is why I started watching your channel. So glad to see a video. I hope it isn't a year or more till the next one. I'm over Tahiti. Thanks for getting back to it.
I'm happy to see a new video on this build, can't wait for the next one!
Yeeeeeeessss!!!!!!!!🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌 so hype!!!!!!
I plan on getting one of these for a daily driver (hell of a risk I know lol) and this series has given me a lot of insight on what to expect when trying to build one. I know it must be a little discouraging to see that its not getting a lot of views but I am highly inspired by this build. Keep up the good work man.
Do it! Get TA going for springtime!
I’m trying!
I’m glad you’ve uploaded another video in the Trans am Series, I was hoping to watch what pitfalls and other issues you ran into because I want to swap in an l83 into my IROC.
Gm makes a tool to remove those fuel injectors, it's basically a small slide hammer that attaches to the end
I love this car a lot
Yeah, a little tight on that tolerance. No droppy bump-stick! No bueno!
Looking good Matt can’t wait to hear this beauty run
Matt, I’ve enjoyed your builds. I have a 12’ suburban z71 (lifted) and a LOT of years ago had an 85’ trans am. Both your Tahoe build and trans build are really up my alley! I love your attention to detail.
A twelve foot suburban?!?
@@notchbackgta ha! Yeah, I guess it does read that way. 2012 to be exact
Been waiting on this soooo da** long man🙌🏿🔥🔥🔥
I have thoroughly enjoyed this build. For two main reasons. Number 1: Your attention to detail. You have been so meticulous in working on this beauty, especially with the interior and the engine bay. I recently spruced up my engine bay after watching your video. Great inspiration. Number 2: In 1994 I had an 87 Firebird Formula. Watching this build brought back some pretty fond memories of that car. I currently have a car that I use for weekends and shows, but I would love to find another Firebird/Formula/Trans Am of this era. I'm into convertibles so I'd love to find one of this era. Alas, I'm only allowed one toy at the time, so I'd have to get rid of my current one to find a Gen 3 Firebird convertible. I would seriously consider making the swap. Anyway, I look forward to more of the TA build. I'm not much for resto-mods but love that you are making a sleeper and keeping it looking factory. I will probably have to go check out the Tahoe series.
Finally! Finally! A CZcams video I want to SEE! I been waiting for this! Thank you Matt!
Ditto!
Comp Cams sucks. I bought a car with one spec'd by ECS already in the motor and the lobes started to delaminate on the peaks. After more research I found that there was a QA issue with Comp's hardening process right around the time my cam was manufactured (2015). Luckily I caught the issue in time. I ripped that trash out and put a BTR spec'd cam in that was made by Cam Motion. Been fine ever since.
Damn this is so cool waited for so long half the ball is rolling
Great video. I have never done a cam swap or used a degree wheel. Thank you for all the info!!!!
Great video, very educational
FINALLY A VIDEO!!
Awesome video, keep up the good work
I love this build as well. I'm chasing issues with my gen 1 sbc and all i can think is if i need a motor, those gen 5s are nice!
Great video! Not a fan of Comp cams but, it may not be the camshaft. Crank key or timing set could possibly be the issue.
Finally! Another thirdgen video!
Nice vid Matt. As a request, please spend more time on the TA putting it back together. Cheers.
Immediate like!!👍🤜
Hahaha about s**t when cam was on block about to be opened.
How is this not a popular build? So weird... Third gen Camaro's are all the rage, I guess that doesn't translate to the Firebirds.
Perhaps it's because there were more third gen Camaros sold than Firebirds.
Matt great video. Also I'm one who does not understand the wizardly of degreeing a cam shaft. I love to hear with Comp Cam has to say and if they will send you out a cam for free.
I would've been after the pistons with a dremel without even calling comp hahaha. Send it.
Love your videos very informative but I do have a question about how you wired the tcc wire. I'm doing a gen iv 6.0/6l90 swap on a '82 c10
1 MOVE outta NuYawk. Texas LSX-Matt sounds bad ass!
2 Then get a bigger garage with a lift.
3 Enjoy your freedom.
Get that angle grinder out, zing those pistons down, and send it!
God damn im a day late!!!
@lsxmatt that tubular k member u couldnt use, whats ur plans with that it would come in handy in my 84 camaro build & also good vids keep them comin
Spamming comments. Been waiting for this.
I had to check me sub,to see if I was getting notifications
I'd double check the tdc setting on the degree wheel again too, I was wondering how you were making sure the engine wasn't turning when you had to loosen and then retighten that nut. Just hoping the impact gun wouldn't turn the engine? Didn't look like it moved a bit when tightening but you're the one who did it so you could probably say for certain one way or the other
Yea I made sure it wasn’t moving. That stubby gun cant rotate the motor.
my 88 is 5.3 swapped and it runs great until i drive down the road and it shifts a few gears, then it tries to stall. Any suggestions?
TuR,Bo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What did you use for the firewall insulation on the inside??
Hey Matt just a quick question. With your Tahoe when it is at idle and operating temp. Where on the guage did your oil pressure sit at? Mine was usually at 40 psi then when driving almost at 60 psi. Today when I was idling it was slightly under 40 then driving a little above but not much. Could oil pump be calling it quits?
My oil pressure is the same in my 04 Tahoe, 40 psi @ idle and around 60 driving. When the psi drops down like that I know it needs an oil change. Less viscosity makes less pressure.
we gonna get anymore tahoe vids any time soon?
Love it!! Horizon Hobby needs to come out with one for everyone! What wheels did you use?
16 inch formula wheels to clear the brake upgrade.
@@lsXmatt love it! I have a 86 Camaro T-top that is finally coming back home. I plan on restoring it and chucking the LG4 305 for a 427ci small block Chevy. Don’t know if I should stay auto (700r4 currently) or do a manual swap….
Don't forget to upgrade the PCM to OBD2
I find it hard to believe that 3 degrees off on the centerline will make the difference you need? How much more clearance do you need?
Yes the centerline is off but that isn’t really causing much clearance loss. I’m still figuring it out.
@@lsXmatt Aftermarket parts are always an adventure. A couple of thoughts. Maybe that cam phaser has slop in it? Does the lock out kit lock have any slop in it?
I noticed you tightening the degree wheel with an impact gun. Maybe that moved the crank a bit as it tightened and threw off your numbers?
Try taking the fuel rails off next time then fight the injectors out
Is that a LS5.3 or a LT1 🤔
5.3 L83
@@lsXmatt 👍👍
ls swap a fiero next
With a SC 3800. Oh yeah!
Pulling the injectors out hurt to watch gdi injectors require special tools to pull
Tried the tool but it just bent it
Just another reminder why I just cannot trust Comp Cams.
If u aren't making over 500hp or putting the blower on it what have u gained over a 4 bolt main 350 with a little nos. Now u have complicated wiring a crappy direct injection set up that makes u walnut blast the valves every time there covered in soot. A well built small block is cheaper, makes the same HP, dose not foul it's intake valves with its own carbon every couple thousand miles.
