    Cutting grass when it is wet is probably the reason you are getting so much grass clippings under your deck. I wash out the deck of my push mower and lawn tractor with my hose after each use and clean them with my pressure washer, periodically. I was surprised your Johnny did not have grease fittings on the front axles- my SPX has them in addition to spindle grease fittings. I use fully synthetic EP2 grease on these fittings, several times a year.

    I have a question for you, Bruce. I have an old Snapper tractor with an Onan Performer 20 transplanted into it.

    Just received an LX178 from my aunt that my deceased uncle had purchased new. Serial number shows it to be a 1991. Always garaged, but apparently needs a water pump. Being that it is water cooled and Kawasaki engine, I feel very inclined to save this machine. Hood isn't busted, seat isn't torn. Wiring looks like someone took some desperate measures haha, but I can't imagine that being difficult to repair or replace if need be. If you like your LX178 then that's some affirmation that mine is worth the effort to put the money and time into to return it to service.

    • @BrucesShop
      @BrucesShop  Před 4 lety +1

    • @cbh148
      @cbh148 Před 4 lety

      @@BrucesShop Sounds like a plan. I noticed an electric fuel pump on mine that is plumbed up to the lines, but at least 1 of the wires is stripped yet not connected to anything. Presumably my uncle was trying to wire it up and that's why the mower's harness has lots of openings in the wire insulation where I bet he was making a hamfisted attemp to strike 12V gold, presumably because he believed the stock mechanical pump to be bad. The mechanical fuel pump is still there but with no lines connected. Is that a good idea or would you advise getting a replacement mechanical pump ($13 shipped on ebay with gaskets)?

    Have had my LX178 since new in 97. Busted hood. Light smoke out the exhaust. Blade stopped turning after roughly 30 seconds after starting...at the end of last season. The beginning of this season battery is dead. Hard to start, after 6-7 tries will start but will only run a few seconds to about 15 seconds tops.
    So, Is this worth trying to repair? Rough estimate?(guessing maybe fuel pump, tensioner, tune up and a battery) If not how much is it worth "as is"? Probably not able to repair myself.

    • @BrucesShop

      I may be able to help you. I think it is the brake not a clutch. There is a lever down lower than the seat. move it to the position it is not in. I have 2 tractors so forgive me but it is like a parking brake. When you get the lever moved push the pedal in and see if it releases. Fiddle around with it for a bit. I will take the cover off of mine in the morning and see if there is anything i can do for you. Good luck. Please do not hesitate to contact me at email bthversion1@gmail.com.
