    Cool video! Love seeing all the CNW and SP units. Also, love the old Mo-Pac, GP-15 at 11:49. All of those railroads remind me of my childhood.

    This would have been a fun era of railfanning. AC60-44's and SD90's in effect, still alongside dash 8's and older EMDs... and plenty of unpatched SP and CNW units.

    It's ironic how this is supposed to be UP trains on ex-CNW trackage yet more SP units show up rather than SP, then again this is 1999

      Total counts on this video:
      UP=40
      SP=7
      CNW=4
      Don't see how there are more SP than UP.

    This definitely was the RS3L/P3-K3LA transition era for UP which finally ended for the most part around 2006.

    Back when coal was king on UP after the buyout of CNW and full UP engine lashups were starting to become the norm.

    Is this line still in use as of today for Union Pacific coal transportation?

    • @fmnut
      @fmnut  Před 7 lety

      Cancer Yes. It's the UP's main line going west out of Chicago.

      Too bad coal traffic has really dropped and all the line is now basically is gevo line

    At 12:53 is that a Griswold crossing?

    • @fmnut
      @fmnut  Před 5 lety

      It has gate mechanisms from Griswold Signal but lacks the rotating stop sign. So yes and no. Most people associate the rotating banner with the term Griswold.
