My sense of OP corn is that you may need to save seed for several yrs to get it to adapt to your farm.

I had two plantings of heirloom corn. The first corn was Wapsie Valley, no-till planted May 20. Good germination but drought, combined with poor seed trench closing = failure. So, I just mowed it down and put in cover crops for rest of growing season. Second very small patch of Bloody Butcher planted June 20th has done awesome, it did get irrigated early to make it thru our drought here in SW MI. Just a hobby to keep my JD430 busy. Thanks for all your teaching.

Part of research is knowing when and what to stop doing and trying something new or going all in on what works good

I hate hearing your yield wasn't very good . I would have liked to know what my yield was. I had ears that were over a pound . I shelled out hundreds of ears by hand ( not with a hand sheller neither) only saving the best ears for seed. I got well over 100 pounds of really nice seed saved back . I had people just looking at me like I was crazy shelling out beans and corn waiting for the boys during football practice lol . We live a good distance from town so that gave me something to do while I waited . Thanks for sharing and have a great evening !

@@youngredangus6041 I would send you some of my seed if you would like to try a small patch . It grew decent ears growing in nothing but fill sand around the pool . I need to make a video because people won't believe it lol .

What are your CEC ratings and the pH of your soils? And what is your sulfur level in the soil - more than 30 ppm/A or less than 30 ppm/A?

Sorry it went that way. How were you marketing your Jimmy Red? Or were you keeping it on the farm for cattle?
Also, if you are willing to wait a few years, I have been breeding my own corn specifically for out here in western Kansas. I have variety that is reddish. It is more of a dark purple red though. Looks very black but not a morado. Its genetics all come from Mexico and the western U.S. strong stalks big roots. Makes a lot of tillers and puts full ears on the tillers. I have had 6 full ears on individual plant’s before. It could be worth a try for you in the future. It will be two years before I can give you a good amount of seed though. I have not grown it on a large scale yet. Been keeping it at a manageable level for me if you know what I mean lol.

I've been considering this corn for its higher protein and anthocyanin content to use in my pig feed.

I checked out your channel today. For what you are doing I think it would work great. Email me when you get a chance.

Need some monosilicic acid in your seed treat program. Lots of pluses. Higher silicone in the plant actually helps defend against insects

Interesting theory about the fish! Was it applied on the seed or in furrow? Which parasitic insects?

Did you bioprime the Jimmy red corn seed? Or treat it in any way?

I’m sorry what is bioprime? Do you mean treat it with compost extract?
