Holy Stone HS720G True 4K Drone with EIS and Stabilized Gimbal Flight Test Review

  • This upgrade to the HS720E GPS drone includes a true 4K camera, and stabilized gimbal with EIS for very stable video. Get this drone here and use coupon code "CHMLGO9A" (good through 10/11/2022) amzn.to/3xddAaC . And for Canadians Code: OX8IANDN
    Product link: amzn.to/3zF9Akz
    Pros
    - Upgrade to HS720E now includes a two axis stabilized gimbal with EIS for very stable video.
    - Folding drone with very nice carrying case for excellent portability.
    - Brushless motors.
    - Very effective optical flow system enhanced with two IR emitters. This allows for stable hover indoors or outdoors without the GPS system. This allows for a quick setup and takeoff without need of compass calibration or waiting for GPS signals. The downside though is that automatic return to home and landing is not possible when flying in optical flow mode.
    - GPS/GLONASS system enables rapid lockon for pre-flight preparation. GPS also provides automatic return to home and landing capability on command, and on lost signal.
    - 7.7V 2950mah battery provides 25 minutes of flight time.
    - True 4K camera, able to record video at 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution at 30 frames per second (fps), or 1080p resolution at 60 fps. Video and photos are recorded to an onboard microSD (TIF) memory card.
    - Camera includes a two axis stabilized gimbal, and electronic image stabilization.
    - Real time FPV in-flight video and advanced flight control features are vailable through the "Ophelia Fly" app available on Google Play here bit.ly/Ophelia-Fly and the Apple App Store here apple.co/3v44xGo . The app includes many features for the camera and drone. These include camera settings of brightnees, saturation, special effects, ISO, and white balance. Additionally, advanced flight control features of follow me, orbit, and headless mode are available through the app.
    Cons
    - App requires use of phones with 802.11ac WiFi capability. Before purchasing this drone, I strongly recommend that you first verify that your phone can indeed use 802.11ac WiFi. Just do a simple internet search using the terms "802.11, your phone's model name, and specifications". Then see is 802.11ac WiFi shows up under your phone's specification.
    - Weighs 379 grams. This drone will require registration in most countries.
    - Google Maps would not connect on the app's map screen. Thus tap fly features could not be demonstrated.

    I have just got a HS720G drone for myself. This is the 1st drone I have owned and flown. Before I can accross this video, I have struggled to understand how it works, most videos are subtitled and have music playing so I found it hard to understand the instruction. This video has helped me to fly my drone safely and under full control. The instructions you went into was perfect, quick, easy to understand and demonstrated to show a new user to understand. So many thanks and will pop back for further info if needed. Thank you & Happy new year for 2024.

    MJX DNA which is a good thing of course, the extra money you pay for Holy Stone over MJX is after sales service, however, I've never had a problem with my MJX fleet. ( MJX RC PRO app also works on this drone ). By the way some of the latest Samsung Android phones although having 802.11 ac 5g WiFi are failing to communicate with some drones, also as you point out, the range can vary on your brand and model of phone, some have abysmal range, the pilot is then blaming the drone which is not at fault.

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  Před 2 lety

      Yeah, this drone is the Holy Stone version of the MJX MG-1 that I reviewed back in December. It costs about $50 more than the MG-1, but having USA customer service may definitely make it worth it. Especially if you've ever had to make a return to China (it ain't easy, and it ain't cheap).

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  Před 2 lety

      Most of the video that you viewed from the 700 and 720 was taken in cinematic slow speed rate. This helps the electronic image stabilization provide a very steady video. But both of these drones can fly much faster by simply pressing the rate button to select a higher speed. But in high speed flight, the video is not going to look as steady or smooth as it does in low speed cinema rate.

    I’m on my second HS720G and am in the process of trying to return it for a refund. Let me start by saying that Holy Stone’s customer service is fantastic. I can’t stress that enough. Unfortunately, that doesn’t solve the poor video quality I have experienced, now with two of these drones. The first suffered from extremely shaky video and overall mediocre image quality. The replacement they sent still had shaky video, although it was less pronounced, and the overall video quality was even worse than the first. The color balance is way off and the image has an extremely soft look to it. And then, to make matters worse, the wi-fi on the second unit would constantly disconnect. And worse, still, the controller itself disconnected when the drone was only out at about 400 feet from me - with a clear line of sight.
    Sadly, the HS720G is a classic example of “you get what you pay for.” I previously flew a DJI Phantom 3 Pro, but sold it due to just not flying much at all. The quality difference in the video and the overall flight experience is dramatic. I’ve decided to go back to DJI and ordered a Mini 3 Pro with the DJI RC controller. It’s close to $700 more, but the features, quality, range, and overall experience are worth it. ✌🏻

On the box that they came in were built in 2120 All 3 drones are defective.Also they all have the same batch number 720eBN B-EU-210624 If anybody out there has this same problem check out the batch number ,then you will know why it does not fly proper.

      Toilet bowl effect (TBE) usually indicates that the compass needs calibration. This needs to be done any time that you fly in a new area. This is especially true with a new drone, as it's likely still using the calibration settings from China. Did you successfully complete the compass calibration with the three? As example, see the above video at 17:31

      It's a legal requirement in some countries (especially in the USA) to keep the drone within line of sight (keep it visible). The intent is to be able to be able to see and avoid collision with a low flying manned aircraft, such as a helicopter. You can't do such if you're flying by screen alone.

      Now was it this drone, the HS720G? Or are you referring to the newer HS720R (with 3 axis gimbal)? If the newer HS720R, then I agree with you. The HS720R drone was initially released with a defective GPS (maybe that's why it was pawned). They seem to have corrected the problem since, but some from the initial defective batch may still be out there (such as in pawn shops).

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  Před rokem

      You need to connect to the drone's WiFi signal with your phone (not your home internet). Turn on the drone, then open your phone's WiFi settings. Look for the drone's WiFi signal, and connect to it the same way that you would connect to your home WiFi (no password needed). Then open the app. The drone's video should now be viewable through the app. If you want to use maps for the waypoint feature, you will need to use a phone with data connection. But that's the only feature that I can think of that needs data.

      I just tried it on my phone. You do need internet only one time when you first open the app, to sign up or log in to the app. But after that first sign in, it's no longer needed. I turned off both WiFi and data on my phone, and was able to enter the main interface of the app. Of course you're going to need WiFi turned on to connect to the drone's WiFi signal.

      Beginner's drone? Did I say that? I usually don't recommend large brushless motor drones for beginners as they can be dangerous. But the difference of the HS720G is that in addition to electronic image stabilization (EIS), they've added a two axis stabilized gimbal for greatly improved stabilized video (vice with just EIS alone).
