In regards to pitching over 200 innings, maybe you should talk to Logan Webb and hear his unique approach
I’m 128 years old and have been watching baseball since it was first started before the United States was ever a country. During my 171 years on this earth I’ve never seen players as good as Juan Soto or Shota. Thes will truly be the best players in all of baseballs 212 years.
I'm an older guy who grew up on baseball in the 80s and loved stuff like TWIB on Saturday mornings (some will know what this is). I hated the shift with a burning passion and I hate the over-reliance on home runs. I'm not a fan of non-traditional baseball (Hey kids! Get off my lawn!😁) and am getting tired of the starters and bullpen games mentality. I also am not particularly fond of over-celebrating a solo homerun but... well, I get it. Baseball is changing. Still, going so far as getting rid of the opening pitcher who goes 7 or at least 5 innings is a bit too far. I really hope that some old fashioned sanity comes back to the game soon.

As for Diaz of Mets: I had a feeling when he was injured celebrating at WBC that the injury would be a problem when he returned. Many times leg injuries affect the arm.

The death of the starting pitcher has been one of the most tragic things in all of sports. A few things that would help
- Figure out a way to reduce the 3 true outcomes: Walks, Strikeouts, and Homeruns. There are far too many walks and strikeouts and both require at least 3 and 4 pitchers, often much more. Pitchers are too scared of homeruns so they are willing to be careful. A solution is to either move fences back and/or raise the height of all walls so there are more balls in play. This will make the game FAR more exciting as well.
- Go back to the original pitch clock. The reduction of 2 seconds was just plain stupid, regardless of your opinion on the pitch clock in general. Needs to go back. Not necessarily related but pitchers should be allowed to have a timeout with no runners on, like the batter does.
- Reduce roster size. A team doesn't need 13 pitchers. Have 5 starters, 3-4 relievers, and 1 flex pitcher Only the starters and flex pitcher are allowed to start games
- Obviously the double hook. Such an obvious rule that should've been implemented the second the universal DH was added but the league was too busy catering to Ohtani and changing the rules to help him. And it should be AT LEAST 6 innings, maybe even whole game.
I can't stand this idea of an opener. Managers put a lot of lip service into not over taxing the pen. Then they go with an opener. The pen gets hammered in those games, as far as workload. It doesn't make sense to me.
It makes sense. The first 3 hitters are the best hitters, so why not use your best pitcher and then bring in the starter? I dont know if Id do it myself, but I get the logic. Also what if the first three are lefties, and your starter is a rightie? Might make a lot of sense to open with a LH reliever.
Soto should have taken that deal from the Nationals. I don't see another team outside of the Yankees putting up anything close to a Mega contract he is looking for and those same Yankees have hinted they are not going to do a deal that large or similar.
I see no reason why Cohen and the Mets won't go after Soto. $500m is not out of the question. 12yr - $42M p\yr - $504m.
@@TK0_23_ Maybe you are right but in my opinion I think Cohen is done with contracts like this as he feels burned already with Lindor's contract and the Verlander - Scherzer debacles he is still paying for.
@@markn.3813 Well. Not according to Cohen. He stated from day 1 they were going to try and build a sustainable ftanchise model AND try and win in 3 to 5 years. The Max Justin thing was the latter part. It didn't work. Oh well, back to the other plan. He also showed his willingness to sign a long term contract IF it was the right guy. 10yr - $325m for Yamamoto. I watch and listen carefully to what the Mets say and do and so far they have done what they said they were going to do. Soto is on the table for Cohen.
Btw the only way starters will go 6 to 7 plus innings is to tell the analytics to F OFF
What do you think about a rule limiting the number of transactions per week/month so you’re not seeing relievers going up and down to the minors and to incentivize teams to have pitchers go longer and save wear and tear on bullpens?

Skenes and Jones will likely be traded within 5 years. Maybe 4 years so they wouldn't be rentals for the acquiring team.
Nobody cares how many innings the pitchers go, they are already getting paid a huge amount of money, & can get hurt at anytime
I care how long they pitch. His point was many people care. What I don't care about is how much money they make. I'm gonna guess your young and a liberal.
