Edwin did a phenomenal job! This might be the absolute worst situation to try and be a japanese translator 🤣🤣🤣
Edwin crushed it. Would be easy to get behind the energy of Pat and just kinda have fun with it, but it's his job to let Shota know the question in the best way and translate Shota's answer as accurately as possible. Getting too wild would detract from the interview. It's not about Edwin, and he was incredibly professional without being stiff.
Poor Edwin. Imagine you're excited to do interpretation for Shota and these stooges are the interviewers 🤣 love ya Pat
Snagged him mid draft in fantasy. This guy is a certified DAWG. Lefty Japanese pitcher with a mullet who throws filthy stuff. Instant fan.
He somehow was a FA in my 10 team league after his first outing. I scooped him up real quick
Took a CY Young ticket on him +1800 so let's goo Boysss💪💪
Took him 199th overall, my friend who does baseball analysis for a bad minor league team made fun of me 😂
@@coleslaw2435 what a nerd!!!!
@TurdFerguson643 why did I even draft pitching? I scooped up Ranger, Shota, Jared Jones, Crochet, Gil off the scrap heap this year l
It was really cool that Pat slowed down his question a little bit after Shota mentioned that, and Shota motioned that he got it. Behind all the energy, there is a good interviewer in Pat!!!
Edwin's translation skills are quite good. Pays attention to details and doesn't really cut out particular parts of the conversation like I've seen other translators do. He's a Cy Young of translators.
And he’s a rookie too!
Edwin dominating the long ass way they ask questions was top tier! Don't gamble bro 😂
being Fan of the show and a life long Cubs fan, this was awesome. Thank you for having him on. So glad to have him as a member of this team. GO cubs Go. Go Cubs go. Hey Chicago whadya say Shota is going to win today!
Shota has been so fun to watch! Great personality!
As a person who interpret a lot in work, Edwin’s translation is actually good. Better than many other Japanese Interpreters in MLB
"As a person who interpretS a lot AT work... " 😮🎉😊
Also, your clause "As a person who interprets a lot at work" modifies Edwin, but you are talking about yourself.
@@pali_ahaI wrote it in haste. Most understood, I think. You try too..
@@pali_aha😲😲😲
Both these guys seem extraordinarily genuine. Good luck from a non cubs fan.
14:50 best part lmao. Just a regular ass dude
The thing I like most about Japanese pitchers is that they have a better variation of pitches than American/South American pitchers, who imo just throw splitters if not a fastball towards the corners.
I'm glad Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Shota Imanaga are finding success in the MLB this early on
Edwin stole the show!
One of the things I love about Shota is how humble he is.
I think that Pat does a great job of humanizing athletes and making them feel comfortable. Most of the people that come on here feel comfortable due to how Pat tries to make it feel less formal and more of a normal conversation you'd have in real life. Well done!
After this interview I’ve realized that on the outside we are different but on the inside we are same same. Same same but differenttttt
Hell yeah brother. All pink on the inside
They hate us, cause they anus!!!
Shota is not only lighting it up on the mound but his interviews (Edwin too) are legendary.
Shota is electric to watch
Edwin is doing a great job interpreting. (Yup, I speak Japanese and currently live in Japan.) The interpreter isn't leaving anything out of substance, although effective interpreting is never a word-for-word rendering, otherwise it would sound odd and clunky.
I think this might be my favorite interview Pat has ever done!
From Japan, I agree with you.
W🔥🔥 for talking about the Cubs on the show!!!
Phillies are better
this was top tier for a cubs fan !!!!!!!! .. thanks !!!!!!!!
OMG you had Imanaga!!!
Thank you! I was waiting for something like this! GREAT SHOW!!
i love Pat engaging with the translator to match the energy 😆
Hey Pat that's a wonderful interview, great job.
Sho-time, baby! Go Cubs, Go! Love this dude.
I’m a Yankee fan but more importantly I’m a baseball fan this was awesome Pat and the guys did a great job and ofc Edwin and Shota were the stars of her show I’m just happy to see Shota having so much success so quickly here in the states hope he keeps it up and has a great career in the MLB as always great content guys
At it baby edwin 😂😂😂😂
I know Japanese and Edwin did an amazing job translating those long compound questions including every detail and even some nuance and flair from Pat and the boys, without asking for a repeat once. I was seriously impressed and humbled because I know my skills could never reach that level
Bro its so wild that the guy basically doesnt speak a lick of English and this was still a very interactive, amazing interview🙌💯
Repeating something I said earlier, but Japanese don't really use "good luck" at the end of the conversation. They say GANBATTE KUDASAi (which means "go for it")
Edwin a DAWG!
As a cubs fan. Our offense has sucked as of late but watching shota is just incredible. Him and Bedard are much watch TV, hopefully CW18 is too.
So cool that you guys have the patience to interview an athlete that needs/wants an interpreter.
This was....Awesome!
The Cubs are going to use showtime for Shota Imanaga. And there is some good news. Today, Shosei Togo of the NPB Giants had a no-hit, no-run game. He is only 24 years old, so any team that wants to host a new Showtime should target him after 4 years.
I think Pat is a wonderful man. I love Shota and watching your show❤
Edwin nailed it, I don't know how he held four questions at a time from Pat and still managed to ask all of them to Shota
Of COURSE Pat says "Domo ari gato" lol
Shota Imanaga is an absolute STUD man 🔥W Translator Edwin too man
Love both these guys!
Bro Edwin trying to get the full question out LMAOO
This interview rules!
I was shook that Pat would be too aggressive but he really nailed this interview
Awesome interview!
Shota absolutely shoving it dahn opposing hitters throats like a dawg love it LETS GO CUBS
Who else absolutely did NOT expect a human named Edwin Stanberry to look like he did?
🇺🇸
Edwin is a absolute dawg.
Shota Imanaga! GO!IMANAGA! GO!CUBS GO!
Pat would have loved Muni Kawasaki
Cubs have been playing better too. Good for them, as a depressed Nats fan.
Currently the cubs have been having cold bats but shota pitches tomorrow he gonna give the energy to the offense!
Great show great interview🎉
Such a great interview. I think Pat needs to always interview with a translator.
This was great!
Just a gamble but i wager edwin looked just as jacked as shota , was he a former player ?
Pretty sure he played, but not professionally but I could be wrong.
Played played college and independent league ball
He was also a personal trainer prior to being hired to be Shota's interpreter.
This was super cool
amazing interview! every question was super interesting and the whole thing was hilarious. I'd say it was a home run but you can't hit off Imanaga
今永さんのインタビューが見られて嬉しいです☺️
That was just awesomeness
That was awesome
Let’s go Edwin.
That was a great interview
Love the translator. Awesome interview
The boys cheering for the interpreter knowing two languages killed me. It was so expected but still a beaut to see
It's cool to see Pat get more guys from other sports on the podcast. Pats got to be one of the best interviewers and can make a dude laugh even through an interpreter.
i love Shota and Cubs
Let’s go Cubbies!
The boys had great questions!
That laugh at 57 seconds was a classic!
Go cubs go!
17:03 😂😂😂
Edwin looks more like an athlete than Shota
😂🎉😅
DOMO is very flexible and nuanced because it can be used to mean both Thank you and Sorry. Domo Arigato is Thanks and Domo Sumimasen is Sorry
What about AstroDomo?
If you want to say good luck in Japanese, you should just say “ganbare”. It doesn’t actually mean good luck but it is commonly used in situations where Americans would say that. It roughly translates to “let’s go” or “do your best”.
Edwin should win an honorary award when Shota win's ROY. Dude has to participate in every interview and always kills it
Shota!!!!!!!!!!
今永さん、アメリカでもうまくやってるようで良かった。
It's great the Cubs have him but they should have signed more starters before thr season started.
It is also showtime !
Now my Pat signed cubs hat makes more sense
Chicago style is Tavern cut. Deep dish is Chicago Tourist pizza.
💯 chicago born and raised. Hate deep dish. Heart❤ tavern style.
I love the way they play ball over in those Asian countries. Their hitting and pitching mechanics are so clean and smooth.
It's Shota ima!
Chicago Deep Dish Pizza is great & I'm a former New Yorker!
i am bilingual in japanese/english and would be so stoked to interpret for Pat.
🔥🔥
This made me want to watch Shogun
We need an Edwin in season 2
The story of 1st Shōgun Toranaga in the Edo period.
トークでもブイブイいわせてて嬉しいです!
What play in the NFC Championship was Campbell talking about? The purdy run for first down?
Talk about cool stuff...
Really good interview, mature but still fun
good luck = Kou-un wo (幸運を)
13:50 ~ 革靴のお話
Pat casually bullying that poor dude lol
Shota giving away too much of his secrets... he needs to just be a comedian and avoid the question ;)
Shota is really honest and less cagey than some. Yes, talking about how MLB batters handle inside pitches and can go deep with them compared to Japanese
Making it through the whole interview without a Shohei - Itbe joke must have taken a lot of restraint. Honestly surprised the first question wasn't "How do you know Edwin isn't stealing from you?".
Throw it right by your face 😂😂
They must’ve been cracking up when Boston Connor started talking
Pat. You gotta give breaks in your run-on questions so he can translate 😂 Japanese speakers: how'd this translator really do?
Edwin was spot on. he didn't shorten the questions and gave the nuance of what Pat was trying to say
@@michaelwenzel982 interesting. Thx
Gotta ask him about Minori Kawasaki, Blue jays jokester next time (hopefully).
