I didn't know fin swimming was recognized in the Olympics. Are they holding the air tanks up with their arms or do the tanks have some buoyancy to them? This is interesting.

Agree. This is certainly something different, something a little further from true sport. It is certainly not a display of HONEST human ability or performance per se when the "swimmer" depends on a fake fin and a tank to breath underwater. Hormones, anabolics, EPO, beta-2 agonists, masking agents and diuretics are forbbiden in competitions, but not fins and air tanks?? Hey, how about attaching engines to the boat in the rowing competitions? Hey, how about jumping atletes wearing coil springs under their feet to jump higher? That would simply be absurd. This swimming competition only shows the sad way in which competitors make themselves believe they can do more than they actually can. It's sad.

Fastening a plastic fin or tail on swimmers would be like fastening springs on feet for high-jump competitions. How could we actually see true and honest human performance with fins attached to swimmers or springs attached to jumpers?
Competitive sports encourage higher standards of achievement for the athlete; attachments like fins and springs do the opposite.

@@vgfjr505 I disagree. I think olympic swimming should be done without any aid so we can truly measure human performance, speed and endurance. If now swimming is done with the aid of a huge fish-like tail, should the 100 meters competition be done with springs that enable runners to advance 5 meters in each step? What's the point then? What about high jump? Should competitors be allowed to also wear springs so they can prop themselves up higher? What is the point?

      wtf is "true sport" ?
the definition of sport is " an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment"
almost anything can become a sport
if you think fins and air tank shouldn't be allowed, then why allow athlete to put their butt on a bike and pedal, if they can carry their own body and run (cycling is an olympic sport)
why allow athlete to sit on a boat and row if they can swim with their arms and legs (rowing is an olympic sport)
do you perhaps, think that trampoline (another olympic sport) is a dishonest display of human ability ? since the trampoline help athlete jump higher than they really can, or what about equestrian sport ? athlete sit on an animal to carry them, isn't that an dishonest display of human ability ?
there is many sports involving different equipment to move on land, the fins is just a way to move in water
finswimming is just a different sport from swimming, don't worry, it won't replace it, it's just a different sport !
