  • Familiar waterbirds to many but have you ever struggled to tell the difference between Moorhen and Coot? You are not alone! Often found together they can cause ID headaches, especially when young birds are encountered.

    We have moorhens on my Island home. All my life I knew them as Coot. Turns out that I have never seen a coot in my life.

    Thank you for publishing this series. Hopefully more videos up your sleeve for when you run out of birds for ID!

    *EDIT* Just watched the rest of your video and it cleared up my query 😂😊😊
    I regularly feed a gorgeous Coot momma and papa who take the food off to their baby....today obe if the coots was very close to me and wanted my attention for more food, he/she made a call that sounded like someone hitting something against an aluminium flag pole.. very metallic sounding.
    Is this normal for coots?

    Observation: red mark above the heel, and not "knee".

      @BTOvideo  Před 7 lety +2

      Yes, Luis Avelar - you are absolutely right, but I use the term 'knee' as that is what most people would consider it to be, due to its apparent position on the leg!
