    Thanks so much for the video tutorial which was very helpful and well composed! I run strips of masking tape for all the quilting lines ( X, vertical and perimeter) then sewed next to the edge of the tape. You were able to sew these areas effortlessly, but I needed a guideline and didn't have a fabric pen. So pleased with the process and product - thanks again!

      Happy sewing! Julie, be sure after you print out the pattern and tape the pieces together, that you verify it's the correct size for your particular casserole dish. You may need to make adjustments to the width or length of the pattern to fit properly. If you do need to make adjustments, be sure to do so from the middle of the pieces. Good luck!!

    THANK YOU many times over! I have seen the kit version of this and tried to figure out for myself how to make the pattern. Nope. So happy I looked again for someone to have done the brain work for me. I really want to make these for a Christmas craft show this year. Thanks, Tina! Although I don’t have a pattern for an 11”x15” casserole dish. You can easily modify this pattern. I would add 2” to the pattern from the middle. So, 2” longer and 2” wider. Cut the pattern out on paper, tape the pieces together and see if it will fit your dish. Then you can make any needed adjustments. Hope this helps!

      I believe you’re asking about the topstitching I did at the end. I think the stitching gives the cozy more structure. Basically, I stitched an outline of the bottom of the casserole dish. If you can imagine a line going from corner to corner around the cozy, this is where I stitched. I hope this helps!

      @@cynthianegrete5067 not quite. I did topstitch around the top, which also closed the opening. The "X" you see on the cozy was stitched when I adhered the interfacing to the fabric pieces and before the two pieces of fabric were stitched together.

    thanks so much for the free pattern and detailed written tutorial and video. I was wondering, and likely making it harder that it should be, but can you shrink the pattern a tiny bit and print a pattern to cut the batting from in the smaller size? I don't have any idea if this is possible but would appreciate your help if possible

    • @TheBirchCottage
      @TheBirchCottage  Před 2 lety +1

      Rita, you definitely can. I would fold the pattern lengths or and width wise from the center. So if you wanted it 1/2” smaller to allow for 1/4” seam allowance, then find the center and fold 1/4” on each side of center. Hope this helps!

    I love this pattern, it goes together perfectly. I have a couple of questions. I made my first one following the written instructions that came with the pattern. The written instructions say to use a 3/8 seam allowance (even on the darts) This one was very tight and I really had to work with it to get it to fit the dish. This I watched the You tube video and you said to use a 1/4 SA. This one fits much better.
    Another question is; do you put the cozy on the dish and bake the casserole in the over with the cozy on or are you only supposed to put the cozy on after the dish is baked and removed from the over.

    • @TheBirchCottage
      @TheBirchCottage  Před rokem +1

      I have seen the cozy both with a 3/8” and a 1/4” seam. And I do like the fit with the 1/4” better. You do not put the cozy in the oven. Once you remove your dish from the oven, you can place it in the cozy. Hope this helps!

    Great video. Got the free pattern downloaded, cut out 3 to make, one for myself, 2 for gifts. Made mine first, and guess what? Doesn’t fit! I have 2 9x13 pans and doesn’t fit either. I even cut the fabric a little larger to make sure there was plenty. Yes, I only took 1/4” seams. 😭😐. Well I have 2 more cutouts, but not gonna waste time making them. Too bad bc it’s really easy to follow. 😢

    • @TheBirchCottage
      @TheBirchCottage  Před rokem

      Patty, I’m so sorry it didn’t fit. I have three 9x13 casserole dishes, all 3 are the same brand, but one is slightly larger than the other two. So when I made the pattern, I specifically made it to fit the two I had that were the same size. Very frustrating for you, I’m sure. You may want to print out the full pattern, tape it together, and verify that it fits your dish. Then you can make alterations to the pattern to fit your particular dish.

    • @TheBirchCottage
      @TheBirchCottage  Před rokem +1

      You really have 3 choices:
      Cotton Batting
      A 100% cotton and microwave safe batting, like Pellon’s Wrap-N-Zap Cotton Quilt Batting is a great choice. And my recommendation!
      Insul Fleece
      If you’re not familiar with Insul Fleece, it consists of hollow, polyester fibers needle-punched through a nonwoven substrate and through a reflective metalized poly film. The needled material is breathable and won’t break down with washing. The hollow fibers resist conduction while the reflective metalized poly film resists radiant energy. The energy, hot or cold, is reflected back to its source. NOTE: This fill is heat resistant not heat proof. Machine wash and tumble dry.
      I also recommend that if you’re going to use the Insul Fleece that you also add a layer of cotton batting. Be sure to read the manufacturer’s instructions.
      Fusible Fleece
      Although not my first choice, you can certainly use fusible fleece in your Casserole Dish Cozy. I like to use HeatnBond Fusible Fleece in my projects.
      Having said that, most of the casserole cozies I made had one layer of Insulbrite and one layer of cotton batting.
      Hope this helps!

    I need a pattern for a shallow pasta dish/bowl. I got size but when I do darts it ends up looking like a cereal bowl size . I need help! Bowl measures 9 3/4” across 1 1/4 deep

    • @TheBirchCottage
      @TheBirchCottage  Před rokem +1

      Hi, Carol. To make your pattern. I would start by measuring the bottom of the bowl. Draw a circle this size. Then measure up the sides from the edge of the bottom circle. Then extend your circle out to this measurement. You should now have two circles. Cut out along the markings for the largest circle. File the circle in half and in half again. Unfold. Cut slits along the fold lines down to the smaller circle. You should have 4 slots cut. Overlap the dots an even distance. For example, each 1-3/4”. You can use pins or tape to hold in place. Place the bowl inside to check your measurements. Adjust the slits accordingly. If your sits overlapped by 1” (for example), draw a line down each side of the slit 1/2” from the edge. Trim song these marked lines for each of the slits. Again, place the bowl inside the paper pattern to check fit and adjust as necessary. Once your paper pattern fits your bowl as needed, you just need to allow for your seam allowance. If you’re using 1/2” seam allowance, then add 1/2” all the way around your pattern. I hope this helps!

    Are there instructions for the crochet rocks? I would love to make some

    • @TheBirchCottage
      @TheBirchCottage  Před rokem

      Great question! I don’t have a pattern. Basically, I start out with a magic circle and then crochet in rounds, using most double crochet stitches. Because every rock is shaped a little differently, it’s really hard to use a set pattern. Just crochet in rounds and when your round covers the top half of your rock, start decreasing rows. I literally insert the rock into the crocheted “doily” and crochet around it once I start decreasing rows. I hope this helps!

      I would print out the pattern pieces. Tape pieces A and C together and then wrap around your dish to see what adjustments you need to make. Adjustments should be made from the center of the pattern. So if you need to make the pattern smaller, fold the pattern accordingly at the center.

A couple of people commented on it back in December and she gave the google link and it still won't work. Now comments are closed so you can't even tell her that it still doesn't work. Sharon, what an awful disappointment. The pattern was specifically designed for Anchor Hocking dishes. I state that in the pattern name, description, on The Birch Cottage blog, and in my CZcams video.
      You can modify the pattern to fit your particular brand of casserole dish, but it will not fit any other brand.
