Small gestures go a long way. We can start by not calling them names (pinoys, tiongs, bangla), not making fun of their accent. If you have the privilege of knowing someone from overseas, ask them about their family, culture, what they miss about their home.
I can't imagine having to leave Singapore to work for a better life. Thumbs up for your courage and I hope you'll be treated with kindness while you're here :)

I once asked my Filipino bros whether is it ok to use the term Pinoy as I personally dont like to use it if it is rude or racist. So Im told its ok n nothing bad about it. But I still dont use it.

"Pinoy" is not a derogatory term but I appreciate your sentiment. Pinoy is our local way of saying "Filipino". It's also used in the Philippines so don't worry!

Its okay to use the word pinoy. Neither derogatory or rude. Its actually leaning towards endearment. Like hubby to the word husband.

the bathroom may be small but u need room for ur own things... even a small built in closet for ur own snacks n what not that noone will touch!! if they cant offer this then they dont need a helper just get off ur ass n get it done urself!
imho u shoudlnt be happy for that!!! but thats just me!
im making my basement to make bigger sqm place! even then to help me to clean the house! idk how singaporeans pay u! but atleast u can make 31k usd a year to help in a house!

Sorry guys if u face racism here. Shame on those who does that to u guys. As for those stupid hawkers, there are some hawkers who has attitude problem. Personally how i deal with them is if i place my order n dont get a response, I will walk away. No amount of nice food will make me accept hawker with attitude. I can do without them. N if they ever see me n tell me my food is ready, I will simply tell them that since they dont acknowledge my order verbally, i take it that they are not interested in my biz.

They are gentle when speaking, and tend to smile as they speak. The same goes to Taiwanese girls for the guys, as they are the sweet in the way the talk. Guess, people (especially the older generation) have to open up to accept foreigners, than to view them differently, and act coldly towards others.

I would like to request if you can also do another video for married Filipinos to Singaporeans - the struggle of stereotypes, challenges of purchasing HDBs with your husband/wife but unable to put your name as owner even if you contributed to it since you're not a PR yet, not being able to enjoy housing grants, interracial marriages, cultural differences etc. Would be interesting to learn how others have managed things.

  • @vennsim71
    @vennsim71 Před 2 lety +7

I think Singaporeans tend to generalise people, things, stuffs etc. It’s more like a shortcut to bring a message across. Like the supervisor could have said,’ I tend to encounter this issue with newcomers from the Philippines, try not to do blah blah blah’ etc. instead, folks tend to say ‘you all’, ‘your Malaysian people’, ‘Philippines people’, ‘Indian people’… the intend was not towards racism, but the receiving end may get the wrong picture end of the day.
However, being treated differently as consumers is a big no-no. Bosses need to educate their staffs no matter what. But I guess this kinda stuffs will always happen anywhere in the world, as I experienced it first hand in Australia myself, in a fast food joint.
Hope the world will become a better place.

You cant compare price of food in the Philippines against Spore. If Spore food can get to the price of Philippines food, then u guys won't be coming here to work cos the salary will be not much different to what u get in the Philippines. In the mid 70s, a bowl of wan tan noodle cost about $1.50 n feeder bus fare only cost 15 cents. Levis jeans was about $40. Those days things were really cheap but my salary as an apprentice was only 50 cents an hr. When I got promoted to a trainee technician in around 1980, the salary was less than $500. So u see the difference? Similarly I cant be over joy if I go to Philippine to work n find how cheap the food is, bcos the salary will be alot less than what I get here in Spore.

It’s the same for everyone who has to work in another country. You just have to make the best out of it. No one forces us to work in another country. No one can make us happy except ourselves! Be grateful for whatever we have. Those who are here in Singapore, nothing and no one is perfect. If we can accept that, we can be a happier person:))

To be very frank....most of them their working attitude simply cannot make it...they r simply lucky that our country got open leg policy for cheaper labour until last two yrs when they finally tighten up, that they end up here....the BETTER ones r those that had work in Macau n kw asian culture BETTER, their
Performance r far much better. It jt my honest opinion.😎

They been making huge impact and success in USA,Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Europe and Middle East especially Saudi Arabia. Filipinos in these countries really do well in these society. They help The Philippines through tourism all them will spent big money for vacation in Philippines islands they do that to help the Philippines economy for revenue of the country through spending lot of money when they visited or having vacation in the Philippines mostly island beaches.
